Every move that we have been linked with, screams vintage 2016 Dave Kasper acquisitions. There must be a balloon payment coming on the stadium loans.
How exactly does DCU market Rooney now? "Catch him before he's gone"? What a ride this has been ever since Audi Field opened up. The whole thing, from the alienation of the supporters groups, that weird opening night (I recall it feeling weird at not at all like a homecoming), to some of the high points last season, to this year's steady decline. I take solace in knowing FLO is f*cked.

This is a long term disaster almost beyond imagination. In the space of several months, Levien has.damaged D.C. United' reputation on a local, national and international scale. But, I certainly can imagine what Rooney will be saying privately about D.C. United's Front Office when he finally sheds himself of his DCU contract. So, next year we'll be losing Acosta on a free and Rooney for a fire sale transfer fee of some kind. I'd be surprised if Arriola decides to come back as well. I don't know how Levien limits the fallout but re-sodding the entire playing field (which was ripped up by a professional lacrosse game) would be a start.
Like i've posted previously. This ownership group is like watching a car crash in slow motion. You know the outcome but you keep watching anyway, and report on the tragedy. This ownership group should not be allowed anywhere near any sports franchise after what they have done to Swansea, and now DC United.
just saw it posted on the official Derby twitter page. Rooney officially joined Derby- 18 month deal at the end of this season with DCU.
I was thinking of sending my rep a note declining to renew today but that would be cruel and unusual punishment for a guy who is just trying to do his job. I'll wait a few days.
#DCU officials tell me they plan to replace the entire pitch at Audi Field in the next week or two. Good news — looked terrible last night, stretch run and national team games coming up.— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) August 5, 2019
Arriola is being heavily pursued by Puebla. And when do Jara's and Rodriguez' loans end? EDIT: Rodriguez' loan ends this winter. We could easily be out six regular starters this winter.
I missed that yesterday. There are about 10 days between games after Sunday's game against the Gals. I didn't realize the road trip was so long after that. There is a month between league games at home with that Puebla friendly right in the middle. There are only 4 home MLS matches left.
reading this article https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...t-dc-united-everton-manchester-united-england in retrospect certainly has a number of clues that the move to DCU was half-hearted, not what he truly wanted nor was his wife keen about. it was definitely more of a "reluctantly, it's best available option"....
[QUOTE="Bootsy Collins, post: 38044285, member: 50581 We could easily be out six regular starters this winter.[/QUOTE] Send me in, coach! I turn 82 today but I'm still mobile (I made it from the breakfast table to the computer!) and have good soccer intelligence, although my memory is a bit spotty. My best attribute is my ability to fall down frequently with little physical contact, meaning that I am a cinch to cause a red card foul on the opponent. My salary demands are modest. If I wear Depends under my shorts will it make me look fat(ter)?
The more I think about this, I could be completely fine with this... This team could use a complete makeover. Acosta I"m fine with him leaving. Aside from one three-month stretch last year and a two-month stretch in 2016, it hasn't really worked. Rooney will be missed for his leadership more than anything else. There's been a drop-off this year. It's only going to get worse next year... Jara - He's not bad, but we can get 90% of what he brings from Odio-Atsem or O'Neill Fisher for probably 1/4 the price. Rodriquez we'll probably keep but I don't think we should. I keep waiting for him to really show me something. I'm still waiting. I just don't see what he brings other than a high workrate. Hamid - Has definitely had his moments but I have long believed he is massively overrated by this board. And he hasn't been nearly as good this year. Seitz is capable. If Hamid is gone it won't be a disaster. In short, there's a solid defense in place. Fisher / Odoi-Atsem --- Pines - Birnbaum - Mora There is a good defensive midfield core in Canouse, Moreno, and Durkin Arriola is a great winger. We have a new, proven MLS forward coming in with Kamara. Go find a new winger (whose name may actually be Griffin Yow) and spend the DP money on finding a playmaker. And then work on building some depth. One-year rebuilds in MLS are perfectly possible, and it's probably what we should be planning for right now. Now, whether this front office can pull that off is a whole other question...
Rooney has been pretty bad this season so I'm not really that upset to see him leave. All those fears about some old guy mailing it in for one last paycheck became realized in 2019. Acosta has been downright terrible since May; losing him on a free transfer will be a net gain. That hurts to type, he was my favorite player for a long time. There is no amount of other people's money that I wouldn't spend to keep Hamid. Losing Hamid WOULD be a disaster. But if we're completely gonna blow up the team, Olsen should leave too, no question. I suppose, if DC makes the playoffs, they will be the last hurrah for this iteration of DC.
