I'll start by saying UCLA doesn't pay their men's soccer coach what they should. If you offer someone the same salary he currently has with a cost of living in Corvallis, OR and expect him to say yes because it's UCLA. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that you would then be losing money to move down to LA. Ryan Jorden is a very good coach and UCLA have hired well, although he hasn't won a trophy yet. (at-large last 3 years at Pacific)
Jorden's not a bad hire for UCLA. I thought they'd get a bigger name, but Jorden did really well at Pacific and has shown an eye for getting good recruits that are better than their rep coming out of HS and then overachieving with them. After years of underachieving with elite talent, arguably going back to the 70s and including Sigi's days, a coach that can overachieve might not be a bad thing for UCLA.

Any news about ex UNM coach Mr Fishbein? I thought he would have been a hot property on the market. Did I miss something?
Of interest ... https://und.com/rolfe-named-mens-soccer-director-of-operations/ "The University of Notre Dame men’s soccer head coach Chad Riley recently announced the hiring of Chris Rolfe as the program’s director of operations. “We are thrilled to have Chris join our team and staff,” said Riley. “We are all looking forward to working with him as we continue to make Notre Dame the best place in the world to grow as a student, person, and soccer player.”
Trouble at INCGreensboro and coach OKeefe our due to recruiting violations. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.gr...6eab650a-af13-11e9-9f1a-2b39036f6c9c.amp.html
It seems that they are treating the firing of the soccer coach before his first NCAA game as just an oh-by-the-way issue.
Yes, not much detail in the article but I didn't want to post without something official. My son knows a few kids who committed there; and the coach my son has been working with this summer has been in close contact with O'Keefe--so it was the hot topic at training last night.
My son talked to one of his friends who committed to UNC-G--he says that O'Keefe took a player from High Point (his previous school)
Rumor mill here... UNCG had a very limited spring. O'Keeffe has been out of the program for over a month with whatever is happening. It's pretty hush-hush. They are chasing a current ACC assistant that's in-state.
Interesting. So my question; If you have the title Associate Head Coach at an ACC School, is that a better gig than the Head Coaching Job at a Southern Conference School. UNCG is a tough school for D1 soccer.
UNCG got there ACC assistant coach. Great hire, I am biased, have known Coach Rich for number of years. Youngest son played club for him. Go Spartans!! http://www.uncgspartans.com/ViewArt...43&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=211807961&DB_OEM_ID=32200

Getting the head coach title on the resume is important...I liken it to a game of Frogger...they want to achieve a target job but they have to move in a few directions to get there. I’m sure they give up a lot of perks to leave a school like Duke but running your own program is worth the smaller office, lesser facilities etc. Good news for him is the next major conference school that considers him for a HC job won’t wonder if he knows what big time programs are like. Lastly, in all fields, there is the concept of leaving as the asst in one Dept to go lead another dept so someday you can come back and run the original dept. You just don’t get all the experience as a 2, and “they” want to see you run your own shop to make sure you have the ability and aren’t maxed out as a 2.
Not arguing with your points, but Coach Rich was only an assistant coach, I referenced Associate Head Coaches. Some may argue semantics, but the positions are vastly different when it comes to pay scale, especially in the larger conferences. I am very familiar with the perks at Duke, any coach with college aged children will be staying awhile. Just reference Children's Tuition Grant - Duke HR. There are Associate Head Coaches in the ACC that have left Head Coaching positions in lesser conferences. If a coach has a target job in mind, what gets you there quicker? Some of this is all dependent on timing, but the what ifs are interesting.
