Any of these new guys, especially those overseas, have pro contracts? We are now at 85 players with callups BTW, up from 62 last cycle (w/Bradenton). https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1a3vgwj19yp3KgCTIQ9gfBUaOfJ3IMCSigjcnv-hY-6U/edit?usp=sharing
Good to see some different kids getting a look. It seems as if some of the locks were left out of this camp, which is fine since they are playing with their respective professional teams. My main concern with this squad is the back line and I am hoping they break this camp with a good idea of what it is going to look like. I would like to be able to get KHF into the LB position, but that means finding a CB partnership that can be trusted. I am very interested in hearing how the two Solar kids do in this camp. I really like Ramsey's leadership and overall play in the DA playoffs. I also don't want to beat a dead horse, but I hope Carrera was brought in just to have him attend a US camp, after just completing a Mexico camp. I don't want him anywhere near this back line come World Cup time. In the only thing that is accomplished at this camp is solidifying the back line, I am fine with that.
I would have liked to have seen both Gomez and Che from FC Dallas even though I believe both are 03s. I’ve not seen either really play besides clips but the way they’ve been talked about it seems like they could help Wickys back line.
He's still waiting on a passport, no? He won't have to wait for a FIFA waiver to play for the US because he's under 18 years old, but if the passport isn't issued before the WC roster deadline, there's just no point.
There is something I don't understand, maybe you can explain me. I understand that Nyeman does not yet have citizenship, but he was called to a U16 camp and played an international tournament. What would be the difference not to be called to a national camp?
That U16 tournament was not FIFA recognized or that important. The U17 WC is in 3 months and if Moses isn't going to be eligible, no need to waste a spot on him in favor of a kid who has a chance of playing in the WC.
He was basically told to stay in Dallas in case he gets some pro minutes. He will be going to the U-17 friendlies scheduled for the end of August in the Netherlands.
I think this team is going three and out. Very few changes from qualifying, and this team needed a lot of changes. I suspect Nyeman still doesn't have citizenship and won't get it before the U-17 WC. If not, I think its appalling from Wicky to not call him into camp. The worst omission is Gomez. What is the argument that Armour is better than Gomez? Gomez is also a dual-nat Mexican American who is an odd birth year player, so unless he's going to play up a cycle with the U-20's or the senior team, he won't be cap tied until the following U-20 cycle. Very dangerous, IMO. Seth Wilson is now no longer the best prospect in the system to not receive a YNT call up. I'd have to think about who is the the new holder of that title. The keeper position could look very good for the U-17 WC. Las, Wilson and Cervantes is very close to the best three we have at the position. I'm not against giving Anderson a call up at RB with the lack of '02 RB depth, but lets hope Scally is fit in time. As already mentioned, Armour over Gomez is the worst call here, IMO. CB also doesn't look very good. I don't think Tomkinson or Carrera are good enough and add much. Ramsey could, and I could see him getting one of the last CB spots. I'm puzzled at the midfield and striker selections selections. I don't know much about Dietz and Jones, so hopefully they can help this team. Dobbelaere isn't good enough, neither is de Vries and Jasson. Freeman doesn't belong. He's too raw. This reminds me of playing Bryan Reynolds up a year last cycle. He's not a bad prospect, unlike some of the 02 retreads, but there are better options to help this team win games, including some 03's at his position, IMO.
I disagree. Wicky isn't going to find two good CB's in such short order. KHF isn't a CB long-term, but can play the position against kids his own age. We also have Bello, who should be back in time for the U-17 WC. Gomez also should be an option, but the coach thinks Armour is better. We have enough LB depth. Having KHF and Gray as the starters at CB with Ramsey/Alejandre as #3 isn't bad, but when you move KHF to LB (with Bello on the bench) and have Gray and Ramsey/Alejandre as the starters with the other on the bench, the depth looks worse.
Fair enough...if Bello is back. He been out so long, I just feel it’s a big ask for him to be fully fit and sharp for this tournament.
If Bello isn't fit and Gomez isn't going to be considered an option, I do agree about KHF at LB because I think Ramsey/Alejandre playing minutes at CB is probably better than Armour playing minutes at LB. Bello should have close to three months to be fit. He's missed a lot of time, but unless he aggravates the injury or suffers a new injury, he should be fit in time.
The tournament is in 3 months, Bello can get fit by then and it's not like he's been out a whole year. The question for Bello is if he's fit, does Atlanta release him? The MLS playoffs will be going on during the U17 WC and it's not like they have a lot of LB depth.
Bello will very possibly be starting to Atlanta United. I have never gotten the Scally love. In qualifying, he did little in offense and was caught forward over and over. His play created a ton of defensive liability. I don't see what everyone else sees.
Both Wikipedia and Transfermarkt list his place of birth as Riverdale, Maryland. I guess I’m confused now too. Can anyone shed any light on Nyeman’s citizenship status?
It's not unusual for a big database site like TM to get place of birth data wrong. Sometimes club releases or local articles mix up "hometown" [where the player grew up) and "place of birth". Once a bad piece of info is injected into this ecosystem, it can be copied everywhere, to the point where it seems authoritative. One of my favorites was Romone Rose, a QPR youth player who was discussed on the YA boards for quite some time. It eventually turned out that he wasn't American at all; databases had listed his place of birth as Reading, PA when in reality it was Reading, UK. But everyone copies everyone else, so this bad info had spread all over the place.
Pepi, surprisingly, has been the first forward off the bench for FCD of late. Seems to be ahead of Ondrasek (capped Czech senior international) as well as Designated Player Cristian Colman. I'd love to know what Pepi's salary is at FCD, but we're not going to find out until the 2nd round of salary information is released in the fall. I would actually hope that ANY player with an opportunity for first team playing time would be left off of a U17 camp roster.
Well, this could be your answer... LA Galaxy Academy standout Jonny Perez and FC Dallas Academy starlet Jona Gomez are training with the Mexico U16 BNT this week.— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) July 25, 2019
