Steven Beitashour was scouted by a guy in Almaden with a local high school sports cable show who sent Yallop a VHS tape. But Fisher & Co. wouldn't pay him what he was worth when his $44k rookie deal elapsed. So LAFC is the beneficiary. Let's blame Fioranelli.
Hey now, I'm all for blaming John Doyle on that one. I forget, did it say how long we have Fierro under contract for? I hope we can get Espinoza permanently but hopes not too high there.
Tweet from Joel Soria regarding Carlos. Updates from Avaya: Almeyda hopes to have Carlos Fierro onboard and training sometime next week. He also mentions that there’s a possibility of adding one more player to the roster he’s already “happy“ with, but “no more [than that].” #Quakes74
I am a little disappointed he is not already training with the Quakes, candidly, I want to thrash LA in their home.

So if arrived in SJ today, unlikely to see him against Vancouver, so I guess at the earliest we will see him on the pitch will be on the 27th at home against Colorado....looking forward to it..... while at work tried to watch some of the introductory press conference on facebook, but since my Spanish only consists of "dos cerveza por favor" I had no idea what they were saying.
Earthquakes arrival marks happy reunion with Almeyda for Carlos Fierro “I see him very content, very happy,” Almeyda told reporters Tuesday evening following the Quakes’ 1-1 friendly draw against La Liga outfit Real Valladolid. “I know that he’s a player that is going to add [to this team]. I repeat, Carlos is not a savior. He’s going to be just another player on this team. Surely, at some point in time, he’s going to be a key player.” Comfortable on either flank, as a center forward or behind the striker, Fierro bolsters a San Jose side that is flexible by design and has become surprisingly efficient as of late. The 24-year-old – who became the franchise’s sixth Mexican-born player, and first since Rafael Baca in 2013 – is once again reunited with El Pelado and his idiosyncratic tactics after reaching the summit together at Chivas Guadalajara. “What I like about him is the bond he creates,” Fierro said of Almeydas coach. "The first thing he does is create a family. [He wants] the team to be transparent and for there to be a lot of confidence. “That one looks after their teammate, that no one should let anyone die,” he added. “That’s what I admire about him, followed by his way of working. I believe you guys are aware of it: how day in and day out he works with his coaching staff, which can be noticed in [the player’s] physical shape.”
I heard through the old Vinus Grapus that Fierro's arrival was delayed because of the Trump administrations tightening of some of the visa procedures, specifically the expedited process that could get players in more quickly. Now, I don't know how much more time this added, could have been days, could have been weeks. Also heard the Andre Rios signing is still in the works.
With all the starters playing well and their reserves performing above their heads when called upon, will this guy Fierro get much of a chance to shine?
If nothing else, Fierro can (hopefully) plug in to our midfield without any drop in quality. That would give some needed rest to our midfield. Magnus, Jackson, Espinoza have all been playing every minute. Only Vako and Shea have been rotating on the left.
Matias hugs him in that video, and his promise is that of a Mexican Antoine Greizmann (sp?). I suspect even if he doesn't live up to the teenage hype he will be a welcome addition to the Quakes. Make sure when you get his autograph in your copy of Gary Singh's book, tell him he needs to read his own copy from SSV. Tommy will translate for him.
Exactly. At this point I don't bother trying to apply my judgement to Almeyda's decisions. He is clearly expert at what he does, I have no basis to judge other than on results, so I have to wait for the future when results are available.
Espinoza is leaving after this season, right? so Fierro might be his replacement in the long run. I think a fast, technical winger is essential to this lineup. Espinoza spreads the defense thin and creates space for other players - most importantly Vako and Hoesen (Without someone like Hyka, Fierro or Espinoza relieving those two Quakes will be in trouble against better teams of the league) As for his recent dip in form, I wouldn't worry too much. Vako had a disastrous spell at Legia and a woeful season under sthare. Even I started losing hope that he would get back to his old self, but lo and behold, few months with Almeyda and he's back to his old self. lets hope it's the same for Fierro.
