July 28 - August 10 in Lima, Peru. World Cup participants Jamaica & Argentina are playing. Jamaica drawn into a tough group. Group A Mexico Jamaica Paraguay Colombia Group B Costa Rica Panama Peru Argentina
Not having Brazil or Chile, the top two teams at the 2018 Copa América, makes this tournament rather irrelevant.
USA & Canada declined the invite, which is why Mexico & Costa Rica are playing. The CONMEBOL berths were determined from the World Cup qualifiers. The top two(Brazil & Chile), for whatever reason, don't participate. The third-fifth place teams do(plus host Peru).
The top two in CONMEBOL weren't slated to participate for the exact same reason that the top in CONCACAF declined invites - focusing on the WWC. It's not any national team's fault that CONMEBOL were smarter about their invites than CONCACAF was. Also, you dodged the question.
Just for clarification, the didn't "miss" as in not qualifying - they've always qualified but opted out. Which I think is a shame, because in the past they've chosen to instead send a U23 or U20 team.
File this under "disappointing but sadly unsurprising": many star Argentine players have been left off the PanAms roster after asking more from their fed+coaches following the WWC https://equalizersoccer.com/2019/07...ange-cut-pan-american-games-estefania-banini/
It's terrible that Argentina and Colombia are dropping players who tried to improve their conditions. It's a constant saga there. That's known as "an improvement" lol (Sorry, Canada, you're collateral in this joke) Just keep saying it, NEW NAME ON THE TROPHY, it feels good to say. Is there a trophy? or just medals? Day 1 (Sunday) in group A and B Mexico v Jamaica (10.00) Paraguay v Colombia (13.00) Panama v Costa Rica (17.30) Argentina v Peru (20.30) Peru time is GMT-5 Not sure about live coverage - outside the Américas, some sports are on Mediapro on Youtube. Mediapro is a production company, not a broadcaster. Panamericanos broadcasts are meant for consumption within the Americas. Best bet is to check VOD offers. ESPN has all games on digital broadcast, although not sure if they will be televised completely. There might be breaks to show other Panamericanos events. All games for Peru squads will be broadcast in full by main Peruvian TV channels. Check Latina.pe and Panamericana.pe. You will need a VPN to watch their digital streams.
Colombia's coach Nelson Abadia called up players which publicly denounced mistreatment by the Colombian FA. Their claims were made via press conference on March 8th 2019. Among them was Daniela Montoya. Audio recordings were shown as proof of former federation president Luis Bedoya coercing NT coach Felipe Taborda into blacklisting Montoya. It was retribution against Montoya for demanding prize payments. Yoreli Rincon did not attend that conference. If 13 players denounced the Colombia FA for various mistreatments, then why 5 of them are at the Panamericanos, while Rincon is out? Rincon no longer plays at Huila, where she was Libertadores 2018 champion, earning a $55K team prize. An agreement was signed between club and players for prize distribution. After Rincon voiced her concerns about small prize allocation while still in Brazil, her club agreed to double their previously agreed allocation, paid upon their return to Colombia. Rincon threw her Panamericanos colleagues under the bus, saying she was not surprised they accepted her absence from the Lima call up. Only Daniela Montoya mentioned her absence... after all, both Montoya and Rincon are now teammates at Barranquilla. 1153754478618775555 is not a valid tweet id 1153755742186409984 is not a valid tweet id Truth is that 18 players can travel to Lima. Coach Abadia included Rincon in his 23-player roster for Copa America 2018. She did not make the cut, while 5 whistle-blowers did.

Day 2, Wednesday – Argentina and Costa Rica reach the semi-finals by eliminating Panama and the hosts Peru, in group B. In group A, Jamaica are out of the running, and Paraguay did this: Mexico 1–2 Paraguay - youtu.be/xnISWCv00_A Jamaica 0–2 Colombia - youtu.be/G_gUYs1QIqM Group B Panama 0–1 Argentina - youtu.be/p7kKYf-msJ8 Costa Rica 3–1 Peru - youtu.be/1KAPQ9oX6h0
Today was a good day for Conmebol squads. Both Colombia and Paraguay eliminated Mexico, leaving just 1 Concacaf team in semifinals: Costa Rica. ESPN Play is showing several Panamericanos Games events live, and apparently for free (watching from USA w/o sports package). Complete replay of women soccer games is available for free as well. http://www.espn.com/watch/collections/19766/event-replays (better listing: http://www.espn.com/watch/schedule/?type=replay) If possible, support/watch material provided by official broadcasters. I wonder if Jamaica would have done better if Khadija "Bunny" Shaw was playing for them? Only 1 goal for them in group play is pretty sad.
It looks like Jamaica's squad here was quite different – missing about half of their World Cup starters. Not a good summer for them... We usually link to that (and ESPN will appreciate the 10 clickthroughs they get from BigSoccer). But international multisport events tend to be severely geoblocked. Mediapro, the host broadcaster I linked to upthread, streamed 6 hours of coverage today for non-Pan-Americans, and this was all the women's soccer they showed: ...just hours of paddleboarding and British commentators shouting "vamos". Hope the CBC showed some soccer, but they barely mention it online. So, only for unlucky people with bad TVs, here are the highlights: Group A Mexico 2–2 Colombia - youtu.be/KPZZ3y1l7Wg Paraguay 3–1 Jamaica - youtu.be/LmFFgBxhQDU Mariana Larroquette hit a penalty onto the post in this one: Costa Rica 0–0 Argentina with cool jackets - youtu.be/ZlTedZMan2c Some consolation for the hosts in a dead rubber: Panama 1–1 Peru https://depor.com/futbol-peruano/se...eportes-juegos-panamericanos-lima-2019-126462 Final table, Group A: Paraguay 7pts, Colombia 5, Mexico 4, Jamaica 0 Group B: Costa Rica 7pts, Argentina 7, Panama 1, Peru 1
Too bad ESPN is US-geoblocked then. The CBC live video interface is awful too. Mediapro is a big TV producer in Spain, which creates content for some sport networks. Likely, it won't broadcast its main PanAm content for free, due to its contract with TV channels in the Americas. Marca Claro has simultaneous youtube streams showing all PanAm games, but is Mexico-geofenced. That's the source of most pirated content on youtube. One official broadcaster shows highlights without geofencing: Panam Sports Channel (tested for Canada, UK and US). No live broadcasts though. Similar situation as Mediapro, cannot undercut TV channels in the Americas with free live streams. Semifinal matches are next Tuesday, along with bouts for 7th+5th place: JAM-PER (7th) MEX-PAN (5th) PAR-ARG CRC-COL Fire up your US or Mexican VPN to watch them live.
Aside from Paraguay beating Mexico, group A went just about as I expected it to go... Group B also pretty unsurprising overall. I know people were high on Jamaica after their WWC qualification, but... Let's be real, Jamaica only avoided being last place at the WWC because the USA demolished Thailand. They weren't supposed to be there, and it shouldn't surprise people that the second tier of C'BOL sides are better than Jamaica. I may try to do my quick ranking estimates soon to see what changes come from this tournament. Probably not much since the PanAms tournament is just gonna count as basic friendlies for FIFA.
Jamaica also only had about half of their World Cup squad for these games. Their star player, Khadija "Bunny" Shaw, wasn't playing either.
Sorry I was snooty about paddleboarding, it's actually really relaxing to watch. (Being fair, Mediapro does show a lot of sports, but more football & paddleboarding plz) "They" meaning Thailand, or "they" meaning Jamaica? Also, I'd like to demand that Fifa install a 31st-place playoff in future World Cups.
quite a disapointment from Mexico once again. They sould of had a lot in their favor; an experienced squad(including Spanish league leading scorer Coral), popular semi pro, full time league which is currently in season, several American born players, a pretty good showing in their youth teams last year(u20 Concacaf champs/u17 WC finalists) should of been a recipe for success, so wonder what happened?
Sorry, I took the last sentence of your post to mean it really didn't matter which "they" it was, i.e. the statement "they weren't supposed to be there" could easily be applied to both. That said, I was originally talking about Jamaica, as the second half of that sentence should have implied. Jamaica (and Thailand, to be fair) are just not at WWC level.
