I think most top-level pro sports teams in the US make money. Obviously the big payout is if you hang on to see the team's value appreciate, but if the league and teams weren't making any money, that value probably wouldn't be rising as much as we've seen it do so in the past couple decades. And you see concerted efforts by owners to run their teams much more leanly. Even notorious big spenders like the Yankees are so much smarter about how they spend their money that it seems hard to believe (to me at least) that they aren't earning profits annually. Now, this won't be true of all teams or leagues, but I don't think a lot of investors get into pro sports these days because they want a fun toy to spend their unlimited wealth on. They want to become even more impossibly wealthy.
Sacramento was a split affirmation with Portland. Quakes loaned players like Adam Jahn and Tommy Thompson to get playing minutes and stay sharp. Sacramento has been trying to get into MLS since the days of Preki coaching them. They were never interested in developing players for other teams.
You are making a reverse point though and both Jahn and Tommy were sent down not brought up. Loaning players out is one thing but I'm talking about placing young, up and coming players on the USL clubs, grooming them and bringing them up like most minor leagues do. That just doesn't and hasn't really happened yet.
Portland beat Seattle 2-1 in Seattle. Seattle is now in 3rd place in the West, 1 point ahead of Quakes & Minnesota, with 21 games played.
Seattle v. Portland was another fun game to watch. Very intense and even had some post game arguments among the players.
Gareth Bale has been offered a £1m-per-week wage by Chinese club Beijing Guoan. pic.twitter.com/agWBZbhI7j— Transfer News (@TransfersLlVE) July 22, 2019 Wow, £1m or $1,247,030.00 -per-week or $65 million a year? Do 1billion Chinese know who Bale is? Good job Bale! Go C-League!
Did anyone ever really believe he would be busted for this? Cristiano Ronaldo will not face sexual assault charges in Las Vegas ...
Intense, but sloppy as hell. In the first fifteen minutes it seemed liked 50% of the passes were intercepted. It was insane. I was thinking "the Quakes would beat either team, with 30+ shots, since we'd have 90% possession". It was fun, but neither team was impressive in an absolute sense.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic faces MLS ban after leaving opponent facing surgery. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/foot...M8JSevmpsBtNG6D4acZrRNSvvLyVAWYi54-ymzIS8xe_w
It’s all fun and games until someone gets their skull fractured. I say 4 games because I don’t think Zlatan was trying to win the ball. I believe his intention was to obstruct El-Munir by putting an elbow in his face. This is the kind of stuff Zlatan is famous for and it won’t be the last time he does something dangerous.
I am not a big fan of Zlatan hurting people. But I would say that relative to his own shoulders his elbows weren't that high. I am not sure that should get more from DisCo. You'd have to ascribe intent, and I think that is too much for the evidence. Now when he chokes people, he should get half a season. I think that was too light.
There's @Goodsport, but he won't answer the question whether he's ever actually had to endure attending a game there.
Dunno. I watched it maybe 20 times on loop? I don't think it is as clear as that. I see that "elbows in line with the pectorals" jump from... oh... 100% of players jumping for balls? I think that only Zlatan would get DISCOed for that one because people don't like him. I know _I_ don't like him. If it happens I won't shed a tear. But Flo comes in that hot and elbowy plenty often and I don't want to see him DISCOed over it. And I don't think people should get nailed for what other people assume their motives were in a case as normal looking as that.
The Leagues Cup premiered tonight (the Quakes might be playing in this next year). The Galaxy beat Tijuana in an unusually bad penalty shoot out. How do people feel about this new tournament? I think it's great. I assume it would replace the 3 friendly games we usually play. Sounds like the players can make a decent amount of money the further they go in the tournament (really good money for the younger players - I forget what the numbers were but sounds like some players will double or triple their salaries).
