I'd like to report a murder. Hey.Welcome to @MLS.Happy you didn’t take anyone’s team away from their city. https://t.co/U7s0CggTKo— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) July 18, 2019
Well here we go in Nashville. https://www.wsmv.com/news/save-our-...cle_3a0fe100-aa30-11e9-8473-870a9bb2f64e.html
At times like this, just remember that RSL was about 20 minutes away from standing for Real St. Louis at one point in their pre-Rio Tinto Stadium days...
More big news out of Charlotte... In potential @MLS news: the @Panthers are expected to add @allyfinancial as a major sponsor in the team’s effort to land a soccer expansion club for the city. Would be among biggest MLS team sponsor deals— Sports Business Journal (@SBJ) July 19, 2019
I don't actually live in Nashville. I live in East TN, and didn't follow the building of either stadium/arena.
This article shows Kroenke’s total lack of interest in the Rapids and MLS. https://www.burgundywave.com/platfo...enal-fans-open-letter-still-dgaf-about-rapids Why the frick does MLS allow owners like this???? All this does is cheapen the league!!!!! I’m livid!!!!!! HOW IS MLS SUPPOSED TO BECOME A TOP LEAGUE WHEN YOU HAVE OWNERS WHO CLEARLY ARE TREATING IS AS A MINOR LEAGUE???!!!!??&&@&&&
Did anyone ask Kroenke specifically about the Rapids? If not, that's on the media. I'm not saying they've been committed to the Rapids. They have spent money on players recently, though that spend has not panned out. The Rapids currently have a good young core of players to build around. Whether they do or not remains to be seen.
This plus people are forgetting when Kroenke bought in. He was the first new owner after contraction and the big 3 (Kraft, Uncle Phil, Lamar) took over the whole league to keep it running. MLS didn't have much of a choice to "let" him in.
The rapids have the 6th lowest payroll in the league. Their total payroll is nearly $2 mln below the league median and close to $3 mln below the league average. I don’t think they’ve spent a dime on open transfer market either. They went cheap on the coaching search as well with reports indicating they wouldn’t even put forth a competitive offer to hire Josh Wolff. They do bankroll a USL side, but their facilities are far from cutting edge. I see nothing to indicate that these guys are serious about being competitive in today’s MLS,
And then we have Wash DC. For many years DCU was trying to get a stadium, with no results. Then out of nowhere an MLB team comes in and are given one within months.
And that baseball stadium is on pace to be paid off more than a decade ahead of schedule. It has completely revitalized a dead neighborhood. It's one of the best investments DC has made in land usage and is far more successful than DC United would have been in the same situation.
I'm not sure I can completely agree with that. The ballpark expedited things in that area after DOT and others were returning. Poplar Point is still sitting undeveloped. I'd also argue the Reeves Center and MCI Center/Convention Center were bigger for the District.
