Armchair Analyst: Grading all 24 MLS teams at midseason According to @CarlosVictorM, Matias Almeyda is the lead candidate to become the new manager of the Ecuadorian national team. There is a clause in Almeyda’s contract with #Quakes74 that allows him to leave for a national team job. pic.twitter.com/q26paNCD1F— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) July 12, 2019 1) Pretty sure the contract only allows him to leave for the Argentina and Mexico jobs. 2) He seems to be enjoying himself in San Jose, I doubt he'd give that up for Ecuador.
Bruce in a tactical sense is whatever, but he’s also a nice example of what happens when you don’t ride your players into the ground with unreasonable asks and expectations. Has always been an expert man manager.— Will Parchman (@WillParchman) July 12, 2019 Brad Friedel watching the Revs on the road to winning their 5th of 9 matches since hiring Arena after winning 2 of their previous 12 with the same players. pic.twitter.com/jOn1aTk9DU— Will Parchman (@WillParchman) July 12, 2019
LA admit: Almeyda's Quakes were unstoppable aww yea Braz to analyze transfer window moves on MLSsoccer why
The Columbus Crew are now 1-13-1 in their last 15 MLS games. The Crew are the first MLS team since the 2001 Tampa Bay Mutiny to lose 13 games in a 15-game stretch. Tampa Bay was contracted after that season.— Mike Donovan (@TheMikeDonovan) July 14, 2019 Correction- Orlando City also had a 1-13-1 stretch last season. During that stretch, they had 3 different managers.— Mike Donovan (@TheMikeDonovan) July 14, 2019
Adrian Heath upset about... MLS power rankings?? Minnesota United's Adrian Heath sounds off on "experts" at "MLS dot com" Who even pays attention to that...
Actually, I see where Heath is going with this...a little extra "Nobody respects us, but I got your back" message to the team as they going through a very congested part of the schedule. He's not wrong, either. 5th in the league in points, 3rd in the league in goals scored, 3rd in the league in goal differential, into the semis of the Open Cup...and yet, all the experts keep saying, "Well...let's wait a few more games...we'll see." (and I can't believe I just wrote a bunch of words defending Adrian Heath)
and there in lies the problem.. The "experts" are all worried that Heath will return to form and are holding out for that to happen.
And yet they all praise his former team.............who have been nothing short of mediocre all season. They're waiting for Heath's team to return to form, and yet in the same breath they praise his former team as a playoff team if they figure out how to finish their chances??? Minnesota sure passes the eye test much better than Orlando does. Orlando was very fortunate to get a draw in Philly (the Union dominated that game and fell asleep on two set pieces), they barely survived their open cup game against NYCFC(who were the better team on the night), and barely eked out a last second win against a hapless Crew side at home. The Crew controlled that match.
Somehow, people seem to have forgotten about the requisite amount of coaching experience when it comes to some candidates. I'm just saying... Robin Fraser has more professional coaching experience than Luchi Gonzalez does.
"You are what your record says you are." -- Bill Parcells Heath's multiyear record seems to justify a healthy amount of skepticism.
Now that the Quakes, Rapids, and Revs have all turned things around, maybe the soccer media will pay more attention to Chicago and Paunovic... 23 points through 22 games. 1 point out of 6 from back-to-back home games against Cincy and Crew.$16.9 million in guaranteed compensation paid to players in 2019. Third-highest payroll in MLS.It keeps getting harder and harder to justify Paunovic's position as head coach.— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) July 18, 2019 Counterpoint, I think they're in the top 5 in xG differential. Which means they're getting chances and not converting. Probably means it's not the coaching and tactics but the players. So maybe it should be Nelson that's gone and not Pauno?— Tutul Rahman (@tutulismyname) July 19, 2019
I think Rahman has a point and I also think that payroll is a weird indicator, especially if the entire payroll in going to one player.
LA Galaxy shake up academy, bring in new director On Friday, the Galaxy announced Juan Carlos Ortega, who previously served as the technical-tactical coordinator for the Mexican Football Federation, was hired as the club's Director of Methodology and Development. Ortega’s first order of business was to bring in Junior Gonzalez as the interim coach of LA Galaxy II as the club parted way with Mike Munoz, Laurent Courtois, Jamie Harvey and Andrew May.
The rest of MLS is so fortunate that the Galaxy academy severely underperformed over the last decade...
I still don't understand why the LAFC folks didn't pony up the cash to keep the Chivas USA academy going. They had the opportunity, and the Chivas USA academy teams were absolutely stacked with talent.
