"honest". Yeah, right. Fact: Our defense gave up 2 goals in 6 games including one v. Mexico which was McKennie's fault and his conclusion is that "long was poor so far....." He's not being honest and he knows it. Just admit it.
"Brek Shea has a couple of nice moments"? Where? I don't see it. Can anybody show me Brek Shea's "nice moments"?
In other words “f*ck you if you don’t agree” you always make it much easier proving my points thanks Also, that wasn’t the only context of the conversation but I appreciate your attempt to muddy the waters you do an excellent job of that.
Zelalem got the start and went 65' in SKC 3-0 win. Had 3 tackles. Vermes is building him up. Is also Olympic eligible.
So what is the point of this thread? Can't we just keep it simple and discuss US eligible players in MLS and how they are performing week to week, mention younger breakout players who we should keep an eye on, and other things related to MLS players in the US conversation. Whether a particular MLS player is better than a particular player in Eredevisie, or if a certain player "crapped the bed" or whatever in a past national appearance is not really the point of this particular thread.
Mason Toye has 4 goals and 2 assists in 174 minutes of league action. Looking promising for Olympic Qualifying.
From what it seemed to me, Roldan really struggled when asked to receive the ball with his back to goal and play out of that. He was much better when he was put in a situation where he was moving forward when receiving the ball -- in the USMNT's case, a little more out on the wing. I think it's more of a matter of role for Roldan. I'm not sure there's a great spot for him in the current setup, though.
I am also hoping to see Weah in the next call-up but I actually don't think Morris has stagnated at all. After he came back from his injury, I thought it was fairly notable that he's improved his left foot significantly. He's still right-footed, but it's not longer worthy o any kind of special comment. His first goal back with the Sounders was a great strike with his left, IIRC. At 24, he's not likely to make massive leaps anymore so I'm not proposing him for much more than depth. But he has been improving, and that's impressive for a guy who was hurt for a long time.
Weah has one on one moves Morris doesn't. He also makes fantastic runs behind the defense, which is key for wings in this offense. Unlike a lot of guys, he tracks back and defends as well or better than Morris. He plays a great 1-2 game. He struggles at times to finish, but so does Morris. I don't know that he's massively better, but at 20, with massive athletic upside, a strong skillset for an American (better than Morris), he needs to get more minutes, no? Focusing on past production on the USMNT is completely missing the point, and focusing just on G+A is reaaaallly missing the point.
Why does Morris need to be called in to every single friendly? Do we really need the same 23 every time? I'm not one who wants mass turnover at every chance, but I fail to see why Weah should have to wait 6-12 months to even see the pitch.
Morris hasn't been bad in MLS at all. He hasn't been a star, but he hasn't been bad. And he was fine for the USMNT. Long hasn't been bad in MLS or for the USMNT.
He does that all the time with Seattle though. Gets his head on a swivel to see the option ahead of time, and then evades the d and hits his man or makes the one-time pass. I mean he played the 6-8 his first year and a half w/ Seattle and that's where he succeeded the most, and now he's back to the position again. So why would he not often be receiving the ball with the ball in that position. W/ the NT, up until the last two games, he was having the ball roll up his leg and missing passes when he had years to make a play.
Actually if you read what I wrote I said going in he had been in poor form. His first friendly he was poor too but I said that I’d have still called him. I’ve also said I’d likely start him next to Brooks. But skip over the rest of the people I named and the overall argument I’m making and focus on 1 thing that you’ve inaccurately read.
Looks like Euro squads are coming for Long. I would love to see him at Schalke especially if Wagner uses a 3CB system. He is very similar to Thilo Kehrer who we sold to PSG for $40MM. With off the charts athleticism, Long is worth a shot. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...bac-aaron-long-drawing-transfer-offers-abroad
I agree Roldan looks good in MLS play. Maybe that's the 'fools gold' in evaluating talent for the USMNT.
Yeah, Guyana and Panama B is a better indicator. That's tougher competition than he sees in MLS. If he has his issues against those ilk it's gotta be a matter of not being able to handle the step up in opponent.
I never get the logic of why a guy can play with and against much better players than offered by any Concacaf rival outside of Mexico at the club but can't handle it in a US shirt. Is Alberth Elis, playable on wed for Houston but a veritable devil if you put him in a Honduras shirt?
