Disappointing and sad. But I can see his point of view, if not his tactic. It's also logical that he should move on... last season after his recovery he was running on borrowed time it seemed. Hard to imagine getting another season like that out of him.

And while I loath the sugar-daddy impact and use of ill-gotten wealth I do appreciate his zeal for winning. Chelsea has won, what, 14 trophies since he took over?

Surplus to requirements... or is it that we need still Kos to anchor the defence? :ROFLMAO:

I can for sure imagine that part of Kos's tactic is that he heard he's supposed to anchor this back line again, knows he can't do it physically, and doesn't want to get injured/tank his own value in a contract year. It's insane we don't have another CB transferred in yet and no smoke on anybody even

He didn't let Cech leave for free though. That seems to be the part Kos doesn't get. We are broke as hell and he expects that we will give him a free transfer. I'm sure the club will gladly sell for a nominal fee, but we haven't received any offers.

He could always take a pay cut to allow Bordeaux to afford to pay us a small fee.

I mean, I kind of agree, but buying a middling 28 year old is a waste of time when we’ve got Sokratis, Holding, Chambers and Bielik on the books. There just isn’t any way we are buying a true difference maker in that position this summer, so might as well use what we’ve got. Let Kos go, he’s done enough, and take whatever you can get for Mustafi.

(And of course there are rumors that Emery has told Bielik he doesn’t have a role for him. But he had a role for fvcking Mustafi all of last season. Can we start calling him Wumery now?)

Broke or not, €2m or whatever won’t make a difference.

He isn’t going to deliver on what we owe him at this point anyway. The wages will make more of a difference than a fee.

    Apparently we can't sell Mozzerstafi

We have tried multiple seasons to unload him

Maybe a silly question, but are these contracts guaranteed or can we just release Mustafi and not owe him anything?

As fans we never really know the players personalities, but this does seem out of character for Kos. There is clearly a breakdown in the relationship between Kos and either Emery or management (or both). Part of this is probably attributable to the fact that neither Emery or the new management have a a history with Kos. They weren't at Arsenal when he was arguably one of the best defenders in the Premier League. There is no institutional loyalty to Kos. We often accused Wenger of being to loyal to his players, but one way or another he would probably have resolved this by now, most likely by letting Kos leave as a free agent.

IMO it's the most important position where we are lacking, so it should be the focus of our transfer window. Somebody like Upamecano would seem to fit the bill.

Anyways, in the grand scheme of things, the way this window has gone is truly terrifying because as it stands we're competing with Everton for transfer targets (below Tottenham) and losing at that. No direction, no vision, no competence. Club needs to be purged to survive

No we'd have to buy out his contract, and he'd have to agree to it. We wouldn't save money doing it. Best option is to play him and hope he ups his value.

Pretty sure we’d release Özil if contacts weren’t guaranteed.

I hear you, I just don’t want to waste time and money on bodies that don’t actually improve us. And I think those are all that we can realistically buy right now.

Every bit counts when our transfer budget is what it is, and it sends a horrible message to have another valuable first team player leave for free. Koscielny has gone about this like a spoiled brat. Go on the tour and have your agent keep working to get you a transfer out of the club. In one stupid move he has destroyed 9 years of goodwill. At this point, I'd let him rot in the reserves even if a bid of 2-4m comes in.

Why did Arsenal release that statement? Just say dude is injured and try and retain some value?

Or that after a long season coming off a catastrophic injury at age 33 he’s better resting and rehabbing than going on tour. This club is completely clueless about how much goodwill they’ve burned over the last year.

Why should the club cover for our players bad behavior? I suspect we have done that a lot in the past, and fat lot of good that’s done us. The agents know the truth, which means the interested clubs know the truth. You are not preserving player value at all, just shielding them from the fans much deserved ire.

Because we want to collect a transfer fee for him. By saying dude is on strike, we have now said we have a player that’s trying to leave and is striking.

And more than anything, we have now created and confirmed a media story that didn’t need to be a distraction.

Arseblog indicated (he heard a report) the club was seeking £10m for Kos. if that's true, its because Kos was intended to be our #1 solution at CB next season and that's unforgivable for a club like Arsenal.
