You're why I said most but did not not say all.

Some of the other people criticizing her went off on her politics before she'd even played a game.

I disagree with your view of her play because I value an older player playing within herself and being very good at what she does.

I don't expect her to outrun a 20-year-old down the wing in the 75th minute of her fifth game in the WC.

    I also value leadership.

    • 3 PK's (clutch, but also PK's)
    • 2 of the 3 assists were versus Thailand
    • 1 assist was on a corner kick vs SWE that wasn't even a good corner

    • Scored 1 goal in the run of play excluding 13-0 blowout of Thailand.
    • Had 0 assists in the run of play excluding 13-0 blowout of Thailand.

    SHE PLAYED ALMOST NO DEFENSE!

So, what exactly did she do during the run of play that was so impressive?

Just buy a gold star sticker and put it above the second star. It should look about the same as what they're pre-selling now. I have a feeling that U.S. Soccer/Nike over-resupplied the best-selling 3-star jerseys, got stuck with a surplus after today's victory rendered them obsolete, and are now repurposing them.

    Screen Shot 2019-07-07 at 5.19.38 PM.png

I imagine the fourth star will turn blue [or white, on non-white jerseys] after the 2019 Championship commemorative edition is behind us. But I'm curious to see whether they also line up the stars in a single row. They followed that pattern with the transition from two to three stars, but the latter stage of that transition also happened to be synchronized with the complete crest overhaul in early 2016.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter, does it? FOUR STARS BABY!

I was not aware there had to be a particular run of play factor to score goals or be recognized as playing well.

I disagree on her playing no defense.

I couldn't care less about the politics and her arguing with Trump. I wish she wouldn't even bother because he's not even worth responding to.

As for her other agendas, I'm all for it. I'm not sure why the kneeling bothers anyone, but whatever. I'm behind her and her right to fight for equal pay/rights/equality, LBGTQ, etc.

I think our Front-3 were written in with permanent marker and didn't play that great. All 3 seemed out of form to me all tournament long. For a team that is supposed to be deep, we sure didn't use it much.

    Lloyd...come on man.

Are you watching her actually play.... it’s glaring.

And stop it with the political crap. I can’t stand that argument. I don’t give a rip about Trump.

Run of play makes up about 90% of the game.

I wasn't aware that the plan was to hope for PK's and set pieces to score all our goals. If that's the case, shouldn't Lloyd be playing every minute?

why didn’t Ellis use Horan as much? Thought she wanted to center the game around Horan before the tournament

Can we stop bashing Rapinoe and the knock the political crap out? That's why the other thread exists.

Some people get extremely defensive when you talk about their favorite players. It happens every game.

Even when at least 3 of the TV commentators that have been over-hyping Rapinoe all tournament said she didn't have the best tournament; somehow, if we saw the same thing, we're biased and basing on off the field issues.

Just close the thread then. If we can’t provide criticism at all, there’s no point to this. Everyone say what a great job they all did and move on.

Congrats to the team for winning. Some players played extraordinary, some picked up the slack for others, some could have performed much better, some didn’t get nearly enough playing time, but at the end of they day they are WC champions!

Depending on how you define "anti-Pinoe" posters, maybe a majority, but probably not the vast majority. Many of the critiques [moreso the ones regarding her play specifically and not her as a player overall] have legitimate grounds, and it may be a little unfair to assume that most of those critiques are motivated by an unrelated political disagreement. Personally I think she had a solid tournament performance, and played enough of a part in the title defense to be very proud of. I decline to voice my own opinions on her political stances.

I don't really care who got what individual player trophies in the end, as long as our team is the one hoisting the tournament trophy.

Does soccer have a site that has deep analytics on players like baseball does. I would love to compare various stats on players per position. They probably don’t because it would be way too hard to compile, but it would be fun to see. Tackles, giveaways, % of passes completed, etc.

No, please, I want to see the 4 stars in a row. That's much more daunting and impressive IMO.

I don't like having one sit on top like that.

The US are very athletic, very direct. I prefer intricate passing and creative moments that can produce that kind of play that can be truly described as the "beautiful game". The kind of football that an in-form Japan shows, or peak Arsenal/Barca in the men's game.
