interesting, goes against my perception, but a lot were likely very short side passes: "Last season, he[Koviacic] proved extremely effective when in possession of the ball. He averaged a very high 72 passes per 90 minutes with a success rate of nearly 93% in those passes - that success rate actually bettered Chelsea perceived pass master Jorginho.
The skill is there. But the vision and awareness isn't. It's quite a big shortcoming for a central midfielder and actually significantly affects the team's all-round play. Lamps was never a great dribbler. Nether was Scholes, or Iniesta. What makes players in these positions great and consequently helps their teams win is a good footballing brain. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/09/180912095024.htm
Chelsea warn Atletico Madrid that they will cancel the loan of Alvaro Morata if the La Liga side do not make his move permanent with a £50m fee this summer. We paid 57 million quid for him and he still has three years remaining on a five-year contract. I think Atletico Madrid like him, but don't really want to pay for him. As they are apparently buying Joao Felix for 100 million quid one wonders where they are going to find all the money? Griezman is not going to bring it all in (his release clause is £107m).
Makélélé newly appointed loan coach says Chelsea should have kept Moratta. He is also a big fan of Baka. After leaving Chelsea in 2008, Makélélé finished out his playing career at PSG, then joined the coaching setup there to help out former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti and assistant Paul Clement. He later took a technical role at Monaco, then joined Clement for a brief spell at Swansea City, before taking the head coaching job at also Qatar-owned Eupen in 2017. Earlier, he had a poor spell in charge of SC Bastia in France, but he did much better in Belgium, keeping the minnows in the top flight in both of his seasons in charge, finishing 12th this season, their highest ever final position.
Still banned. Today we shall not be buying Philippe Coutinho or Marco Asensio or Tanguy Ndombele or Dwight McNeil.
Announced by CFC: Gary Cahill, Gonzalo Higuain, Rob Green, Eduardo and Kyle Scott are no longer Chelsea players.
Kovacic deal is done. https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2...1AzRjqOBXXnFPyqQuWzHJuOaEgJnnXnxmLc8duywdtU_w
With the exception of the Europa shit cup victory that is the best footballing news I've heard for quite a long time!
Apparently Bournemouth's Dutch defender Nathan Ake, 24, is likely to sign for Manchester City this summer.
Poor Millie Bright (Chelsea's own) got her soul vanquished. First big chance of the game goes to the @USWNT! All set up by @roselavelle with the killer nutmeg on Bright 💀 #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/XvhOtcs1Lc— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) July 2, 2019
Chelsea have opened talks with starlet Mason Mount over a new contract and are confident the midfielder will commit his long-term future to Stamford Bridge. In 2017-18, the 20-year-old starred for Vitesse Arnhem on a season-long loan and ended up being named the Dutch club’s player of the year. He currently has two years remaining on his current contract, but Chelsea will want to tie him down until 2024. Mount joined Chelsea at the age of six !!!!
Chelsea have a £39m buy-back clause for Ake, but with Pep Guardiola stepping up interest, the Blues must decide whether to rival them for the 24-year-old or not. IF he is sold to Citeh we also get a slice of the deal.
It was always a bad idea selling him. I’d buy and loan back. Letting City buy him and taking our share of 20-25% of the spread between what we sold him for and Bournemouth sells him for isn’t good business. We should at least make it more expensive for City by telling them if they don’t wire us 25mm we’ll use our buyback.
Especially when we were playing a 3 backline. I think we should buy back. Ake, AC and Rudy would be a fantastic stable of CBs. We can move Luiz and promote a youth player to 4th CB.
i mean, buy and loan would make sense from our end, but not Ake's. i can't imagine how demoralizing that would be for him to basically just be blocked from playing for an elite club for another year, all on the gamble that he MIGHT be able to play CL a year later. without a ban, i would say buy and let him fight it out and see if franks thinks he's worthy. with the ban, it just feels like he's a pawn in a fight between two clubs, one that didn't rate him, and the other that seems to and won the league and will be in the CL this year.
