it is a joy to watch him move off the ball. with ajaxs rise it makes it a bit easier to imagine him getting a full national time callup before getting a senior club appearance?
duh, thats why itd be a lot easier to graduate from the u20s to the full usmnt than move up to ajax first team?

US Soccer profile: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...rom-netherlands-to-u20-world-cup-with-the-usa “The technical stuff, that’s the most important in soccer,” Dest said. “Ajax is one of the biggest clubs in Europe. They’re always focusing on technical stuff, they’re not as physical as in England for example. You can always go the gym and work on your fitness and improve your speed. But it’s soccer. So, you have to be technical, you have to know how to control a ball and that’s what you learn at Ajax: to pass, to get some first touches, those kinds of things.”
so...going into the game today, I was wondering if we could stop the discussion of whether Serginio is the best right back in the pool. To me he's looked raw and not fully finished in the U20 tournament (got caught wrong-side again today on a break) - which is exactly how he should look. Kudos to him, though, for his best game of the tourney...and that pile-driver of a shot spilled for the 3rd goal.
Yes- he’s not been the best at the U-20 WC, but he has improved from game to game. He played much better yesterday against very difficult competition. I think he’s showing well now.
Agreed. He's gotten better and yesterday was good game on both sides of the ball. He's Fabian Johnson 2.0 in my book. At ties he's defending can be suspect but can be threat bombing down the wings. When it counted and the US needed a strong defensive performance, he stepped up to the plate. Dest showed he was capable of locking down his side of the pitch. Again, very similar to FJ. Dest maybe a little better - when it's all said and done - with his attacking skills vs. FJ.

i asked a few months ago if it was more likely wed see dest with usmnt before he ever made a first team club appearance. seemed like a sure thing back then as many pointed out
Anyone familiar with Ajax know how many of these guys are first team starters vs bench guys vs youth like Dest?
Highlights of today's first team match, some good sequences with him in which he displays good ball control and passing in tight spaces (entered into the matched at 45 mins)
