The Uruguay goal was pretty nice. That header was impressive.

Their entire population would fit into Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Worth noting that, if the Gold Cup had been 12 teams as in past editions, Bermuda would have qualified and Nicaragua would not.

Well, would Bermuda have even qualified from the Nations League competition? If only 12 teams played in the Gold Cup, the top 6 teams would have qualified instead of 10. Did Bermuda finish in the top 6? I thought the top 4 finishers were Haiti, Canada, Martinique, and El Salvador. But I didn't look it up.

El Salvador was 10th in Nations League qualifying. Bermuda finished 5th.

Admittedly luck played a huge role, given the format. But those were the rules.

EDIT: El Salvador's one loss in Nations League qualifying was to... Bermuda!

Giancarlo Gonzalez gives up a dumb penalty and Haiti are level.

Berhalter's Crew guys now ruining two national teams.

not sure I should make this same joke in the MNT forum.

Good end-to-end action in this one, and the crowd is really into it. Red Bulls ought to consider giving these fans complimentary tickets to the next NYRB game!

This is possibly the best Costa Rica crowd I've ever seen in a Gold Cup. I know a lot of Haitians are in the mix, but most seem pro-Tico.

I think Miami and New York have the largest concentration of Haitian-Americans in the U.S. When Costa Rica played USA in a WCQ at RBA in 2017, there seemed to be a sizable crowd of Tico supporters there at that time too.

Having had a few Tico co workers, what they lack in numbers, they more than make up for it in shit talking.

And now he gets an apparent cramp celebrating his goal and has to be stretchered off.

I sympathize. The exact same thing happened to me once in high school.

That goal made me realize this was a more Haitian crowd than I thought.

Given how they schooled the USA in the last World Cup cycle, I guess it's understandable.

Is it just the first place I looked, which is not the official site, but do Groups A/B play each other in the quarters and semis?

Totally rigged so USA/MEX can’t happen until final, but MEX/CAN can happen again.

Great game. Congrats Haiti. That makes the top half of the bracket more interesting for neutrals, in my opinion anyway.

It's funny, in the days in weeks leading up to the Gold Cup I always have zero excitement for the tournament. But it always ends up being fun.

Oh this goes way back. Back in 2009 during the Bornstein game I had a Costa Rican as my supervisor. I was stuck at the hospital that night watching the game on my laptop. He went out to watch the game at a bar. Fun time the next morning for me to be signing out to him running on 24 hours of no sleep.

The rule that went into place a few years ago is that if a player is fouled and receives treatment they can stay on the field provided the player who committed the foul received a card.

    At least that's my understanding.

That is correct. The two sides of the bracket are separate until the final. It wasn't 100% that way when there were 12 teams and 3rd place teams could advance but it is for sure now.

There is a scheduling factor to it so they can compress the schedule a bit but, yeah, mostly to keep the US and Mexico apart.
