That will be living in hell for the rest of my years. No thanks. If it somehow goes beyond 2024 it's sipping covfefe in Nambia time
No, we need a whopping victory at the polls. At this stage we're only 16 months away from voting. Even if you go the impeachment route, it's not going to happen overnight. Most likely the impeachment process would carry on into next year. Which leaves you with one of two scenarios ... #1 Trump survives impeachment which gives him a boost of confidence and an aura of invincibility right before the actual election. #2 Trump gets impeached right before the election which will enrage his base and motivate every conservative in the country to come out of the woodwork to vote for Pence as revenge. It'll be another Kavanaugh situation where the circus will only turn off moderate Democrats and motivate conservatives. The impeachment ship has sailed. The right time to do it would have been before the last Midterm. At the very latest, it should have been done on day 1 of the new Congress.
My attitude about impeachment is and has always been that it's a gun with only one bullet and you only get one shot, so I'm pretty OK if folks take their time lining up that shot.
Even though I want impeachment because Trump is losing it more by the day, I see that Dems are slow walking it. They need public testimony from these Trumpers so it'll keep the ineptitude and malfeasance front & center for the next year.
If he president breaks the law, he should be impeached. Especially with as out in the open the current one is doing that.
I assure all of you, I am not a sock of @Ismitje. At least I don't think I am. He might be using his Jedi mind tricks...
I've been thinking about this, and to me is strikes as a PR move and nothing more. We all know that Individual One is non-confrontational (hell, he couldn't even fire someone on The Apprentice to their face), and he is full of bluster. Imagine what would happen if even 1 Iranian was killed on his order - he wouldn't know what to do. But, further, apart form the initial bluster, he has been backing down all week. And now this? No, it was never going to happen. FFS, he is afraid of war. And there is so much of this presidency that reflects on his personality, and we know that he is all about preserving himself. Doesn't take much to understand that he would be afraid to kill somebody else, seeing how fragile life can be, something he does not want to accept.
I've heard multiple programs (including NPR) commend him and talk about his empathy for not wanting 150 deaths. They didn't even question why all of this is happening in the first place.
Yeah, I was listening to the Politics Podcast going "no, he is a coward." That said, I think Ayesha Rascoe probably does get this as I have heard her multiple times restrain herself probably at risk for getting her WH press credential pulled. Mara Liasson is also probably there, too, but by direction from up on top, restrained.
Why do you hate free enterprise? For-profit prisons needed to expand beyond your regular non-violent drug offenders and the in order to maintain multi-platform synergistic market domination. This is the profitable logical next step.
Am I reading this right? People are now calling Trump not launching stupid attacks on Iran as cowardly? ******** you people.
Charles Manson didn’t actually kill anyone despite having a murderous heart because he was a coward.* *I win the prize for most overwrought analogy of the year, right?
I think the problem is more the back and forth incoherence that makes it feel more like Trump is treating this as a game. It's great that he didn't attack Iran, but why even bring yourself to the brink? It's the bluffing that can make him look like a pussy. It's the "hold me back bro" schtick. I'm actually going to go out on a limb here and actually defend Trump a tiny bit. My theory is that he has no intention to go to war with Iran. Probably never did. Just like he eventually rolled over with North Korea. I just think that Trump is a legend in his own mind and he thinks he can one up the other side by being unpredictable and crazy. He's just trying to intimidate the Iranians into submission. "The art of the deal" or whatever ... The problem is that this is not the appropriate stage for the strongman performance art. While Trump is making a fool of himself, something could potentially trigger Iran into a real escalation. Iran's military is probably on edge now and any blip on a radar screen or an error in the chain of command could set off an event where American servicemen die or something similar. Which is not something ideal when you have a temperamental president who may not be able to resist getting into a dick measuring contest. So yeah, let's celebrate that there's no war yet. But that's like celebrating not getting into a car wreck after drinking and driving. You don't really get brownie points for that. The point is you shouldn't be drinking and driving in the first place. And that's what this Iran thing feels like right now with Trump at the wheel.
You gloss over how incredibly demotivating for the dem base doing nothing will be. Impeaching and watching senators ignore the overwhelming evidence and fail to convict gets me to knock on a 1,000 doors trying to rid our country of this menace. But this shit....this shit makes me want to give up, grab some popcorn, sit on the sidelines and watch. What the ******** do I care? I’m a well off white guy.
If Pelosi holds an impeachment vote in March after the Dems have their nominee, will you knock on doors?
Not sure. Because by then...Pelosi will have shown that her efforts were solely about politics rather than the protection of our nation.
"Celebrate" is about ten steps too far. I'm just glad we haven't done what would be one of the dumber things possible right now.
I'm sure our military brass does not want a major conflict with Iran...well maybe. They didn't push back much on Iraq AFAIK. Does anyone think their opinion sways Trump, Bolton or Hannity?
Isn't the complaint more that he's probably lying and that it was them, (his defence people), talking him down rather than the other way around? Y'know, not just that 'he's a coward'? Having said that I haven't read through the last few pages so maybe someone did say that.
As bad as the Iraq debacle was, Iran would be 10 times worse. There is no plausible end game for an invasion of Iran, unless you are Bolton, and think the Iranian people will welcome US forces as liberators. Every Iranian I know says the odds of that are 0%. The US military must realize this.
