There was probably booing for both. I, and a few people around me were booing Shea, the @$$hole Austin twitter troll.
I forgot about those. I was referring to when a certain orange muppet may have had some red cards dumped on him.
How was it clear? Let me guess, you weren't even there last night. The boos started when Shea walked up to midfield. No one was booing Meram. I was one of the first to start and I didn't notice who he was going in for, nor who was walking off until J9 was most of the way off. Did we jump the gun? Probably, but as soon as that manbun'd asshat took off his peony people started giving him shit. EDIT: Ok @the_rickler boo'd Meram, but most started before the 4th official held up who was coming off.
I boo'd Meram. I also tried to start the Columbus reject chant every time he or Parkhurst were near the Nordecke. It wasn't too popular, which obviously inspired me to be louder.
Meram got the Columbus reject cheer from 124. My usual seats are in 226 and there is a guy there who really hates him. Whenever Meram was on the field for the Crew, this guy would yell at him. He said he hated Meram more than Tom Brady and he really hated Brady.
I joined in happily in the first half calling Parkhurst a reject. Never heard the one for Meram, but I moved to Sudecke after halftime, and West midfield after the delay.
I just want to say I've met Michael Parkhurst's parents on multiple occasions in parking lots at Red Bulls and Union games and they are very nice people. Once at a game vs NYRB, as he often did, lost his man on a set piece which led me to yell, "What the ********, Parkhurst? COME ON!" not realizing that the nice elder Parkhursts were just two rows in front of me. His father just turned around and shrugged his shoulders. Very nice people.
No wonder Meram was so upset. This is cutting especially considering what's left on this Columbus Crew roster. Reminds me of this tweet: most cutting thing you can say is "who's this clown?" because it implies they're a) a clown & b) not even one of the better-known clowns— Cohen is a ghost (@skullmandible) December 12, 2013 This feels 2019 in Politics. I feel sorry for the sorry soul happening upon that former players, coaches, etc. thread. In for some rude awakening of "what the ********?!?!"
We're both in earshot of that guy (he's just a few rows behind our group). Thank goodness Meram's gone. I generally agreed with his opinion of Meram, but I really didn't need to hear more of his opinions about him. Plus, we're in 226, man. No one on the field is going to hear you. That said, if Meram is disappointed in his reception, well maybe he should have played better while he was a Crew player. He was a hugely disappointing player for us. I mean, what does he expect? He's sucked for the past two years.
He certainly didn't carry water for us recently. But the guy definitely cared for this team, the town and the fanbase. He still gets goodwill from me.
Fair point. I wasn't there Tuesday, but I wouldn't have booed him, just because it's not my thing, unless I really dislike someone and I certainly don't dislike Justin Meram the person. But in general, I have a hard time being critical of fans who boo the opposing team's players since, you know, that's what fans do. It's their right. A former player expecting to be greeted with open arms by fans of his former team is being rather naive.
The Meram hater is in my row, just a couple seats over so I have to listen to him shout commentary all match long. Pedro is playing better this year so I don't know who his next hate fetish will be. Meram seemed like a nice enough guy the couple of times I spoke with him at fan events. The quality of his play fell off the last couple of years but I don't wish him ill in MLS and wish him well with Iraq.
For the record, Justin Meram the person is an absolute class act, and I'd offer him the shirt off my back or my couch to crash on if it ever came to that. I honestly believe that the engagement break-up ruined him mentally, and then that it was multiplied by the ATX Saga and he just never recovered. I hate that for him. But Justin Meram the soccer player needs to step it up. And since he now wears the crest of another MLS team I've got no problem telling him so while he's attempting to play soccer in my team's stadium. But I'd still go get a beer with him after the game.
Meram has been a fan favorite most of his time at the Crew and a favorite of my wife! Meram wanted out of Columbus and ran away to Atlanta! He couldn't succeed in Atlanta so we bailed him out and let him come back. Sadly he could not recover to his previous form with the Crew. I would not boo him but Meram is not one of us anymore!
