Rumors that both Barca and Athletico want Willian for around 35 million, whether he re-ups or not no way can we let him go with ban.

Eh I think it’s less about the ban (tho it doesn’t help) and more about Cho being hurt and Pulisic being new to the league. If we had a healthy Cho, Pulisic and Pedro I’d be open to cashing in and would consider it. It also depends on who our manager is. If we’re playing a 4-3-3 yes that would leave us low on depth. But I’m good on Willian and his bad attitude. He isn’t a lock starter. He’s inconsistent and he pouts when he comes off. We should have sold him last summer. Time is bad right now tho with ban, Cho injury and Pulisic new to the league.

a wee bit of insight on where started and are now under Roman:

    https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/...-chelsea-manager-roman-abramovich-philosophy/

"On the Chelsea coach back from Old Trafford one evening in the early 2000s, Gianfranco Zola started up a conversation about whether the players should all chip in and buy some lightweight goals that could be wheeled on to the pitches at their Harlington training ground, matching the ones Manchester United had. As it was, about a dozen players had to lug the partially rusting iron monstrosities to either end of the windy pitches on the strip of land sandwiched between the M4 motorway and Heathrow Airport they called home."

Also the press and so many act like we will be a 11 man u-21 team next year with the ban, but though Costa and Hazard are huge misses we still have most of the player core that won the League and an FA Cup the next year and got us 3rd and a Cup this year, and at least 8 or 9 or more of that core might start the first few and Jorginho might not have been here for that but he is plenty experienced.

Pulisac and possibly Abraham if he has great summer are really the only young-ens likely to play early til the injured trio are ready to fight for spots. Though I hope and think Mount and 1 or 2 may start to get blooded in the fall here and there.

Is there any point in having this thread anymore? We are not allowed to buy anyone anyways AND Nobody is listening to us. We’re not impacting the process, we're just talking. Talking. Words in a meaningless universe. Who are "we" anyways? Why are we here? Everything is so futile. Modern football is an existential mindfcuck for the earnest supporter.

Matt Miazga is turning 24 next month. He has been at Chelsea for 3 years. He has 3 years left on his contract. His never realistically going to play first team fitba at Chelsea now is he?

He never was when he was bought. He was bought to loan and sell. He’s prob got 1 more loan year followed by a sale.

and pay him what we are.....i think there would be plenty of teams interested in him, but he also has to be willing to move on and that may mean taking a pay cut.

It 100% means that. He could have left any time last year but the talk was he didn’t want to lower his wages. It’s one of the harsher sides of the business but if he won’t budge on it... I would send him home and not have him train first team. Maybe youth. But there’s no space for him and he can decide if he wants to waste his career on a contract and no PT or if he’s willing to take less and play. But he has no business in our side anymore.

He is on 100 grand a week until the end of the 21/22 season I believe (such a long deal was an egregious decision as he'll be 32 when it expires). No club will come close to that based on what he can offer on the pitch so expect he will be Winston Bogarde when this is all said and done.

And I don't blame him one bit- he has every right to collect that salary. This is his last big contract so squeeze as much out of it as possible. He could move tomorrow and play another 6 years and not make what he would on his Chelsea contract. Perhaps spend the free time earning coaching badges and get media training to set up a post playing career.

The only non-financial factor I can see influencing him would be if he thought he had a real shot of getting back into the England frame, but that ship has likely long since sailed.

No doubt and I don’t blame him. Id likely do the same. But I would send him to the kids. He wants to make a business decision for himself and I understand that buts got to understand we need to do the same.

Not sure I'd even want him around the kids to be honest. Feels lose-lose. Either he is disgruntled and this gets passed on to the kids or he's upbeat and the wrong lesson get's taught. Do we have to have him around the training grounds at all if he refuses to move?

I assume this is referencing my post in the manager thread, but is that a particularly shocking take? Are there really people on these board that think Chelsea is lurking, trying to figure out what to do?

I jest. :)I jest Jim. All opinions are futile. But I actually like the opinions of others, even the ones I disagree with. Apparently there are even people here who disagree with me

Today the lurkers will read in the meeja that Jorghino is open to joining Sarri at Juve. The mysticism continues further and suggests the A Christensen who was going to leave, now wants to stay. Neymar has been looking at houses in L-L-LAh-Lahnd. . Barcelona

i'd be really surprised if we let jorginho go. with the ban we just have no incentive to let anyone go even if we aren't sure they'll fit a system. we need to maintain any depth we have an he's a seasoned international player. and honestly i still think he could be really useful and i think he became a much more versatile player after a year in the league. Mancini (current italy manager) has said as much as well.

for example, i think he and kante could play a double pivot really well if we decided to do a 4-2-3-1 at any time.

if we DID sell, we should take Juve to the freaking cleaners.

I agree with this. Sorta lazy journalism - let's link Sarri to every player who has played under him type stuff.

Kinda like if Lampard was our manager he'd bring in guys like Cech, Makelele, Morris, Drogb....wait.

Everton have opened talks with Chelsea about signing Kurt Zouma on a permanent deal. He never fully recovered from that injury. We have Fikayo Tomori back now I guess. Tomori was Derby's player of the year and he looks great on the ball. He enjoys playing football. He will be like a great new signing.

What we don't have is a striker. Other than Giroud.

Hey look Tomori has a highlights reel on THE you tube . . . I have really enjoyed watching him this season. He's a very composed young lad.

Internazionale would like to sign Romelu Lukaku this summer but would have to offload Mauro Icardi first to have any chance of financing the deal.

It will be interesting to see where Icardi goes. One of the players associated with a Chelsea move, but y'know, that whole ban thing.
