Arriola is what he is. A tremendous worker who has value as a two way attacker. That's valuable for a team that really needs at least 8, but probably 9 outfield players to defend. But given the opportunities our wingers are getting, he has to finish better and create better in the final third. His technical ability is simply a step below what we need on the national team.
I don't know how math works in your universe but in our universe, Green has 4 Goals in 760 minutes for the USMNT. That is about a goal every 2.25 matches, but I will stipulate that is just in our universe.
Not to downplay your valid arguments, but yes, I would say he was useful if he did that. The entire country of Argentina since 1986 would agree with me.
Interesting points across the post. I agree about pace - we need to prioritize, which is why I don't like players like Nagbe, Saief or other similar players. Not sure I agree on the pressing point, but it's an interesting one. I'll have to think on that. On the quoted part ... it's not special. GB is not a savant. This isn't difficult. It's not genius. I never said it was. But we're coming off two back to back coaches who had limited to disastrous levels of instruction. Who relied on players to figure it out themselves. And it didn't work. Tactics in soccer have developed massively in the past 10 years, and we don't have the talent to roll the ball out there and just win. This isn't rocket science, but I fail to see the downside in having the playing develop consistent patterns of play that create chances through teamwork and timing rather than one on one play. It's another way to create chances and score. It doesn't mean we can't counterattack. Or score off set pieces. Or have moments of individual brilliance. Yes, it's Guyana. It's not a cure-all and it's not even close to a finished product. I never said it was. I was simply responding to posters who seemingly have no idea what Berhalter is trying to do. There's just a lot of arrogant, short term criticism. There's valid criticism as well, but honestly, when people can't understand such basics as why Zardes played over Altidore yesterday, they really aren't even trying to understand why, they just are bitching.
When I'm head of BS, the second rule will be no more using "strawman". Everybody's favorite term. (first rule is no more talking about Brucie or Klinsy). People bring up Spain frequently. People bring up his success in recent qualifying frequently (since he scored in 1 Hex game, that refers to his performance in the semifinal round 3-4 years ago against Guatamala and Nevis).
Good thing Zardes isn't on the same plane of existence as Maradona (who, incidentally, is on yet ANOTHER plane of existence from our own with how much coke he's done/doing), and Guyana in the GC isn't the same as England in the World Cup! The point was, it was a fluke. If it were skill-related, then you could try to repeat it, or rely of the player to do it again. If Zardes had cheated, nobody would go "oh, he had a bad game, but at least he scored", they'd toss out the bad goal as a one-off that the ref missed.
Dude, he plays in Portugal which, last I checked a map, was in Europe. So, since I've never seen him play, but I've seen highlight videos, means he must be great. Wait, what's that? He plays sparingly for NYCFC in the MLS??? Better put the lube away now, because my boner is gone. Dude sucks.
oh I forgot he scored against belgium...five years ago you've convinced me heard real madrid is looking to build around him this coming season with those great skills I mean 4 goals in 15 caps truly amazing totals over 5 years. Have to think the bids will start at 185 million atleast man is he going to get paid. he's been bad for five years move on everyone else has you can't fix this problem with a crazy stat or a match from five years ago. if you are right...why is he where he is? could it be his real numbers are 14 goals over 97 matches the last five years because well club results matter? could it be that those stats are misleading? Boyds got two goals in two starts...I like the guy...he should start the next match....but I am going to wait before I call him the greatest goal scorer ever and mention that stat. Just incase ur curious his other two goals with the usmnt are cuba and new zealand lol.
I was being sarcastic about the excuses we hear all the time after games from coaches who talk about "we didn't win our duels, yada yada". Here we lost duels and won the game 4-0. So next time you hear some coach laying it on the players with "we lost our duels...…"
https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/ber...hnson-to-make-usmnt/jhxhf7bwy88t1qwwpq9wii2iq You can make some assumptions from here. There's literally no demand from the press' wider audience to know why Fabian Johnson wasn't called in, especially given these comments. That's not the in the Top 50 questions that the press is going to ask.
Due to his familiarity with Berhalter, Zardes knew to bring him his coffee with cream and sugar. Unfortunately, Sargent not knowing Berhalter, forgot the sugar...
In the past, Trapp has played effectively in the brief time he was paired with Bradley. They complemented each quite well. Greg would not be crazy to seriously consider pairing the two at CM for his own game plans.
I cannot blame guys like Mihailovic, Trapp, Lovitz, Zardes, etc. who are clearly not good enough to play international soccer. I can only blame the coach who seems to think they are.
Last time he was in Hannover squad was March 3. He had knee problems (per transfermarkt) for at least 7 of the last 10 weeks of league play. Returned to training with HSV today.
its about options there are very limited options the irony of people like you and gunner is you are going to complain regardless. its why the board loses posters non stop and us soccer social media picks on fans on social media. people like you guys overvalue moments, some people complain about everything, some thing a single moment/match fixes everything its amazing how many just don't get it. anyone arguing for julian green as some sort of magic fix....doesn't get it.
I feel that would look like two guys sharing the load of what one international level player should be able to do. Kinda like playing with 10.5 players instead of 11.
Nope, "A_New_Fan". The board loses posters because it is increasingly saturated with a series of scripted posts from USSF operatives, who seem to have carte blanche to operate here on BS without any need to worry about being hit with the same restrictions and punishments that critics of the USSF must work under. The USSF has skin as thin as its head is thick, and pays far too much energy in the attempt to "control the message", on BS and with the craven collection of souls that makes up the bulk of the soccer media in general, and far too little energy in considering the possibility that it's f#%K*d up the USMNT big time. Perhaps one day we'll have leadership that prioritizes the quality of our national team, one whose leaders are directed to maximize the potential of the players we have and to genuinely strive for victory in whatever Cup we are entered. But for now we are stuck with leadership that is far, far, too interested in the ubi mea of of its leading cohort and friends.
Mihailovic played worse against Jamaica than Green did in any cap. Worst thing about Green is he becomes anonymous without the ball. Mihailovic is just actively awful. Lol, just curious, when did playing and producing in a better league than MLS suddenly become a detriment? Julian Green's 4 goals and 3 assists for a relegation-fodder team helped them avoid getting sent down. Mihailovic is on pace for... 4 goals, 0 assists in the sieve that is MLS, where elephant-touch guys like Zardes bag 19, and where geriatrics like Wondo are the top US scorer. Mihailovic has the statline of a substitute striker, not a CAM starting every game. If he's any good, where are the stats to back it up? He's got 1 career assist, 9 SOG in his life, wow, better fast track this guy, he's going to end up in Barcelona! Lol, I'm kidding of course, he'll go the way of every 18-24 year old "young" MLS flash-in-the-pan, and get traded to Colorado, the MLS graveyard. You remember Dillon Serna? Kelyn Acosta? Soon, that'll be Djeordie.
The hilarious thing about Boyd is that Liga Nos is almost impossible to watch in the US unless you put a lot of effort in. A team like Tondela would get played off the field by a team like Minnesota or DC. /also kind of a pain in the ass to watch live in Portugal, as it turns out.
I love lines like this because it makes it so obvious "I don't actually watch the players I'm talking about with their clubs so I'm just talking out of my ass".
I do watch him. I watch all of the Americans in MLS. ESPN+ is 5 bucks. Sure, Nikolic can't finish to save his life, but DM is about as anonymous as they come in Chicago. Hence their acquisition of Gaitan. I'll put it another way. Half of his goals = a deflected shot 25-30 yards out that wrong-footed Bill Hamid a couple months ago. Yiikes. Oh, sorry, nevermind, "First Division" and all that. Go ahead MLS-bot, pump em up! He's the future! Can't bring Nagbe, gotta give DM more chances, he's ready!
That’s fair but let me ask you something. Do you think anyone else in our current pool playing that specific role does better?
