Zardes has average speed. He’s not fast.

I watched again in slow motion. It was a shot. My bad.

Driving a header into the turf is good technique. See Brooks goal against Ghana circa 2014.

It was a shot, I saw it on slow mo. I stand corrected. OTOH, he didn't just fall, the defender ran into him as he was shaping up to shoot.

Wait. gunnerfan7... You have honestly begun a petition already to fire Berhalter?

But anyway, I think you misspelled "Gregg." Just helping you out here.

No, I just signed it. After the Venezuela game. I think he's an idiot, and either he proves me wrong and makes the team play better, or we're going to miss Qatar and people are going to blame the pool again.

I see two uses for Zardes off the bench:

    --when we're playing a much inferior team but fail to score due to incredible bad luck: our shots hit the bar, the post, the wind veers the ball away from goal, etc. It's the 60' and after 10 shots on goal and 70% possession, we're still 0-0 and we need urgently an infusion not of quality, but of good luck;

--when we're completely outplayed, nothing we do even approached the rival's goal, we've been completely pushed back and are down 3-0 with 15 minutes to go and at least we want a goal "for honor" like good Taurens --bring him in, one of his random kicks may find its way to the net of the rival.

Hand of God was a mistake that was never called. Like the Frings handball that was never called.

its that racing stripe that makes him look fast.
Lets see.... average speed, bad first touch, can't play with back to net, no moves...... why exactly is he starting ????

I agree and think many of us correctly pointed out that the midfield was not balanced at all. Bradley, Trapp, McKennie, and Roldan are all closer to being 6's than 10's. Mihailovic really shouldn't be here and Pulisic is being played out of position but all that being said, we're again in a position of having to play several guys out of position to fit the system, which in my mind makes it a flawed system.

I don't love Julian Green but he has performed for the national team and actually plays at the 10. Holmes is the only other one who has really seen any significant time at the 10 who was on the initial roster and he was unfortunately injured. Lletget has shown flashes for us in the past. Maybe Pomykal is that guy? I would call all four of those guys in during the September window assuming they're healthy and see if we can find a way to start building a pool of guys who can play the 10 who actually do it for their club and then maybe we can put our $70 million man at his best position. We can always go back to playing him at the 10 if they all bust. My gut feeling is that if we played a 4-2-3-1 with Adams and McKennie at the double pivot, the 10's job would be made much easier and several of the guys I mentioned could do pretty well there. I actually think Pulisic would have a much easier time playing a less convoluted version of the 10 as well.

Well you signed it and made it your sig, so you're promoting it.

Anyway, idiot? More frequent critique around here is he's "too clever by half."

I can't change the spelling of the petition, is the point. It's an HTML page.

And yes, "stupid" considering "too clever" comes right back around to "idiot". And his player selection has been awful. If I had a poll and listed a bunch of managers that we, theoretically, could've gotten, do you think GGG's at the top of that list? And do you think his stock has gone up or down since his hiring? I'd say down, with precious little to indicate an eventual uptick in his tenure.

I was laughing so much when I read this I missed the green stuff, hilarious.

yes green the guy who scored against belgium more then five years ago and has been poor for the five year. How many years need to go by for the history since that starts to mean more then that one single play?

I think Arriola keeps on progressing. This lack of technical ability is more related to his past play than to present. On this team he is way above average technically.

How many times will Jozy's Spain goal be brought up?

Green is an actual CAM, which is why he's brought up. Because even Julian Green is an improvement on Roldan/Mihailovic, only the former of which would be getting any time whatsoever if Duane Holmes, a superior player, weren't injured.

not sure we watched the same match

you thought long and zimmerman played well? despite not being challenged much they struggled.

concerned about boyd's crossing? thats literally his best skill, defending? you realize its literally the least important thing he does out there. If he is stuck behind the ball they are getting killed so it doesn't matter but his defense is fine.

pulisic doesn't have to do too much that is the problem with the entire team.

miha is terrible he doesn't belong on the roster he is the best of the worst.

he's an actual CAM...who doesn't score or create goal scoring opportunities.

they are all garbage picking the best smelling food out of the garbage to eat doesn't make it good it means try somewhere else.

He's actually fairly good at creating his own shot and driving at defenders. And he's got 4 goals in 15 caps, including against France and Belgium.

Mihailovic, meanwhile, was awful against Jamaica at home, unceremoniously dropped from the roster, and still got minutes.

This isn't true. Alienating your star player in the game with Gayana would be not a ballsy move, but a huge mistake. Inexcusable, fireable mistake.

He got minutes because he was the last midfielder left on the bench and a midfielder got hurt.

But he should never have been on the 40-man roster. That is on Egg.
