    Good finish from Boyd!

EDIT: With the help of a deflection.

I decided to check Guyana's FIFA ranking.

If they were in Oceania, they sit nicely between Papua New Guinea and the Cook Islands. The Cook Islands have 17,434 people in the country according to the December 2016 census.

    Guyana is #177.

Or bring Brian McBride out of retirement? I'll bet the guy's still got game.

I said this at least 10 times while watching. You would think after the 8th time the coach would adjust and tell someone to make a far post run.

And yet The Cook Islands receives the same $1,000,000 check every year from FIFA that everybody else gets.

Remember that the next time you start wondering why the crooks running FIFA keep getting reelected.

And there's been absolutely positively no scandal related to it reported in the Cook Islands News in the last few months :whistling:

I would love nothing more than to see Canada beat Mexico tonight. Is it even remotely possible? I know anything is technically possible but does anyone think there is a realistic chance? That is my question.

I am sure a certain other poster would tell us otherwise and it is all because the CPL exists now. ;)

I like how all three guys that you called out that weren't going to score actually did score. :p

    Valid

And Zardes didn't need 10 good chances to score - just needed somebody to smash one off his face and in

    I doubt we can tonight.

According to John Herdman, the goal is to reach the Semi-Finals. He also said that if this happens, he doesn't want to show Mexico what he has planned for them. This means that he already have an idea on how to play Mexico and won't be using that alignment tonight, certainly not in Denver with the altitude. He will try to win tonight but will be using his "plan B" while saving his "plan A" if there's a semi-final.

With Cuba losing yet another guy, I expect him resting the main guys once the game is out of reach for Cuba. I'd use a weaker squad and get the win, then sub in the stronger guys if the game is too close. Larin might actually see some action... A win or a draw gets us to the quarter-finals.

He clearly believes that we have what it takes to beat either Haiti or Costa Rica in the quarters. I tend to agree but this will depend on how our defense holds up...which isn't too promising with Henry being hurt and the decision to leave Adekugbe (LB), James (CB) & Cordova (CB or LB) so they solidify their starter status with their clubs.

If we do manage to reach the semi-finals against Mexico, then this will be where we go all in.

Canada can't afford to play guys out of position in defense and must press them early on, we have the guys to be dangerous. Our midfield somewhat holding up is key while relying on defensive midfield to assist our defense whenever there's a threat

    I think he uses this if there's a semi-final

When did we start talking about Eddie Johnson ;)
That dude had the worst first touch of any MLS/USMNT that many considered a top talent. I never figured out how he got the ball to bounce so far away from him when he "trapped" the ball. It was as if he was kicking it away from himself when trying to trap.

And still had a goalscoring rate more than twice as good as Zardes.

Zardes: 1 goal every 392 minutes
Johnson: 1 goal every 181 minutes

I did not expect that difference to be that big.

Zardes didn't have a good game last night but his touch isn't always terrible. See his assist to Pulisic a couple months ago.

    Wow!
Yeah, I wasn't saying Zardes was better than EJ. Neither have ever impressed me. I always thought EJ was way overrated and Bob Bradley was obsessed with him.
Didn't EJ get a bunch of those very early on with his USMNT career and then slow way down?

Edit: I just looked it up. 8 of his 19 USMNT goals were in his first 9 games. He had 5 in his first 3 games. After that he scored 11 in 54 appearances. No idea how many minutes he played in those 54 games but that is probably around 1 goal every 400 minutes.

Qatar is not putting up any fight early. They're a bit fortunate that goal was offside.

He’s played less than Bradley has the last two years. Or just as little. Neither should have it.

    Thx,
