I was really pissed when Rivaldo blatantly cheated to get Turkey's guy red carded. The biggest surprise for me was the US vs Mex match. I really thought Mexico looked great in the 1st round and would go far. The mind game did them in!!
You know what would 1) be really smart and 2) make for better debates? No one mentions Trump. Period. DO. NOT. MAKE. IT. ABOUT. TRUMP.
Trump unifies the left wing and moderates. They should use nicknames for Trump and let's see which one is the funniest.
Seriously. Like no one's gonna bring up the time Uncle Fred got wasted at Xmas and took a dump in the punchbowl.
We all sure as shit know that a significant portion of the posters here are constitutionally incapable of ignoring him.
See for example the story of separated children being moved to a military base with the high likelihood of press and other outside sources blocked from seeing what is going on inside.
Unfortunately he makes himself omnipresent in the meeja. I'm watching Democrats doing not much of anything so we get Bolton's wet dream of attacking Iran. All it takes now is one little Gulf misunderstanding.
So which is it? At some point, SOMEONE is going to have to stop rewarding the ********er. I figured at least someone here would at least try.
There's no Trump playbook. I said kick him hard going back to 2016. Civility is useles with him. Charles Pierce was just on saying 2020 will be even nastier than 2016. Which means the usual Trump scapegoats are in for a hell of a year.
https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/18/opinion/the-right-way-to-resist-trump.html Berlusconi was able to govern Italy for as long as he did mostly thanks to the incompetence of his opposition. It was so rabidly obsessed with his personality that any substantive political debate disappeared; it focused only on personal attacks, the effect of which was to increase Mr. Berlusconi’s popularity. His secret was an ability to set off a Pavlovian reaction among his leftist opponents, which engendered instantaneous sympathy in most moderate voters. Mr. Trump is no different. We saw this dynamic during the presidential campaign. Hillary Clinton was so focused on explaining how bad Mr. Trump was that she too often didn’t promote her own ideas, to make the positive case for voting for her. The news media was so intent on ridiculing Mr. Trump’s behavior that it ended up providing him with free advertising. Make it about Trump, which the corporate media is MORE than happy to do, Trump wins a second term
Note my last sentence. That is what we should be most concerned about and how to combat it. Since shaming Trump has failed, legal means is the only other option. Dems haven't shown enough spine to really go after him. As they dither we'll wind up with a war with Iran and more migrants will die at the border.
Trump cannot be ignored (perhaps some are privileged enough to ignore him). Context and framing matter. It doesn't help to name call and compare everything to him. It can be useful to compare a policy position, but not worth making it about him. We're seeing it in the picking apart of "concentration camp" for days versus nothing for endless tweets and statements full of lies from POTUS that could send us to war. It's like watching the US lose to Venezuela and then worrying about how the grass is described in articles the next day instead of that the US lost and looked like shit.
So the argument is to beat Trump, be nice and talk policies. I got news for you, that is what Hillary did. She did not attack Trump any more than Prez candidates typically attack their opponents, and she talked a lot about her policy plans. Once you realize that every political pundit has it wrong, you will see The Lord's light. Then again, Hillary did get more votes than Trump, so maybe the pundit is sorta accidentally right.
No. Especially in the specific context of him "live tweeting" anything, up to and including the Dem debates. Take it up with Wankler.
