3-1 Miedema. Nice shot through the legs. So we only need a draw against Canada and we win the group on GD
Dutch Lionesses better win the group or they face the US in the knockout stage and I cannot see them winning that match. I thought the performance was below average with too many weak and aimless passes. They try to play through balls way too often. Also, the officiating was really strange with long stoppages every time there was a free kick. We'll get a better idea about Canada after they play New Zealand later today.
I watched the Canada - New Zealand game. Canada had huge possession advantage and most of the game was played in the NZ half of the pitch. Hard to tell whether the Canada defense is any good as they were never threatened. I think the Dutch Lionesses are going to have a tough match and need to step it up!!
What's the difference in being nr 1 or 2 at the moment? Does it give the possibility to give another player the time to play instead of van de Sanden and Lieke?
The difference is facing the US or not I believe. To me it doesn't really matter in the end...you have to beat all the teams to win. Canada I think are a stronger team overall and have some really good young players, but I think the Netherlands have a couple really special players (for me, Miedema, Martens and Groenen especially) who can turn the game on its head if they are up to it. It's a game that can go either way and should be very exciting!
I just realised it's a coming Thursday match. Plenty of time to recover from fatigue and little nagging injuries.

^^Best center forward to wear a Feyenoord shirt since..................................................................................................Robin van Persie!!!!!
They'll only face the US in the knockout stage if the US loses to Sweden and finishes second in their group. If the US finishes first in their group they'll be in the top half of the bracket, and the Dutch will be in the bottom half of the bracket regardless of whether they finish first or second, so the earliest they could meet in that case is the final.
The tournament is turning into a total mess with the VAR calls against the keepers for going off the line. Can anyone remember if such a VAR call was made in the Eredivisie this past season? I cannot. Today we saw Scotland go out of the tournament when a save of a PK was overturned.
I posted elsewhere that FIFA came out with backing Makkelie and others for this toe precision judgement. FIFA told the refs and vars were instructed to be very strict when it is about the goalie not moving over the line or players moving into the penalty area before the ball has been kicked.
I just saw it! FIFA needs to change the rules and let keepers do what they want as soon as the ref blows their whistle
My proposal is to put the ball on the spot. Penalty kicker on the 9.15 meter circle and the goalie a meter further on the edge of the box. Ref whistles and both make a run for the ball. That would be fun
Wiegman wants the first place and is going to put in the strongest team possible to win the match. Stats Canada vs The Orange Lionesses: Because of the reason that it's a schoolday for children and the Champagne city is deeper in France the Orange Walk isnot going to be as huge as the 15000+ in Valenciennes. Expected is a 6000+ crowd.
But only slightly. The back line defenders are the weak spot of this team and they will get much more pressure in the knock out round.

Well, the "Hunt" continues with next opponent Japan. The Lionesses have called their mission "de Jacht" = the Hunt.
Very much so. I don't think they make the final. France, England and Norway all have a very good shot at beating them. Even Australia and Spain could, IMO. They aren't the best team in the world anymore.
