The thought would be that Johnson stands down the Tories in 30-40 Labour leave voting seats where there's a strong UKIP vote share. Farage in as deputy PM. The problem is that there aren't too many seats like that. Most of UKIP's former high vote constituencies are either safe Red/Blue or marginals that the Tories would need on top of any Farage seats. Most have very little vote share for other parties. Hartlepool is the only seat I can see where that would likely pay off. He would have to be very confident in their private polling to convince the party on this. Also, if Labour come off their Brexit fence then the picture changes again. That said, I wouldn't put it past Johnson to promise this to Farage and then screw him over.
2nd round leadership results announced in a few minutes. Hoping Rory it through, looking tight though.
And Johnson extends his lead.. I’m thinking Boris is the next PM at this point. He’s definitely not going to drop out and he’ll need to lose a ton of votes in future rounds to not end up in the top 2. If this goes out to the general Conservative populace, I’m not sure how Boris loses..
I like how the economist on an article about Conservatives and their lack of ideas, they get to throw shade at Corbyn. Nice job with the double shade. https://www.economist.com/bagehots-...-beyond-brexit-and-the-future-of-conservatism
There aren't good public polls on Conservative voters that I've seen, so we can take MP votes as indicators that they've got internal polling. And Boris is just 30-40 votes shy of half the Tory party. I'd agree with you on this.
The BOJO / Farage coalition is basically where the UK goes full populist /authoritarian I predicted the rise of neo-fascism in the UK many years ago. Sadly its all happening.
Just reading about that... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48688703 Rory Stewart has told the BBC he is talking to his leadership rival Michael Gove "about combining forces". He said he needed to think about who was best placed to ask Boris Johnson "the testing questions". Acknowledging that the two men have different views on Brexit he said: "We would have to agree to compromise." ??? Not sure how they can 'compromise' between leaving the EU without a deal if necessary and NOT leaving the EU without a deal but, there we are...
How are you enjoying those concentration camps? Fascism is here - its just not evenly distributed yet
It's somewhat incredible that Bojo has managed to become front runner while simultaneously promoting deal and no deal Brexit Where have we seen this crap before?
Here's the thing. Pick a thing that is happening in the US or the UK now, and I'll show you when it existed before in the history of those countries. The difference between democracies enacting shitty policies they will regret AND fascism is that fascism can only be undone by regime change. All the UK has to do is not vote for the Tories in the next general election and this "fascism" disappears. Fascism - actual fascism - is happening in Hungary. Authoritarian movements in Turkey, Venezuela, Hong Kong, etc., those are real. Conflating a bunch of stupid policies that the UK and US have a long history of doing with fascism does a major disservice to both the history of real fascism and undoes the obligation that citizens in democracies have. For example, by declaring "fascism!" you absolve a lot of hand-wringing Tory voters of the bulk of the blame for what's going on.
I don't disagree with a lot of your post. Countries like Hungary and Turkey are much further down the road - and of course it would have been possible to vote out Erdolf - now too late IMO IMO the US is still in the first phase where the rule of law is being deconstructed. Congress is non functional. The White House has been criminalised. The DOJ now corrupted. The Federal Courts are being corrupted via stooge packing. Of course it is not too late. Trump could be voted out, the Dems restore rule of law to the government. Maybe the GOP in defeat even turn away from their march to one party rule The UK is different again because it still has a strong Parliament and Judiciary. However this is the road they are on - especially if we see a Boris/Farage government. Indeed with Farage/Banks we already saw a significant corruption of the electoral process. The Tory government don't act on this, because of course Boris and Gove were instrumental
Name specific events that are indicative of these things, and I'll show you something in the US from 1868-1945. Again, specific things and I'll pull from history. None of this is new.
Ok Is there a modern example where POTUS accepts cash inducements direct to his businesses from foreign and domestic sources, while his son in law / daughter sell US policy overseas for personal gain?
I predict the rise of Neo-Facism and/or Neo-Socialism (is this even a thing?) in every single country of the world. From now on, I will ignore any case that I get wrong, but any country that hints on going that way, I will say "I told you so".
