Both of which used to be in MLS, one of which is IN MLS.

He has not whined. You're making something up out of thin air.

Though, the more egregious invention is the notion that Zardes is better than Sargent because he plays in a much worse league, has no future, and has shown no reason to use him on the international stage against quality competition.

Hi. I’m new here, too. Can you point to the fans (a rather large sounding group!) demanding “simultaneously... that the coach win every game and play all of the teenage prospects”?

Because, and I apologize for being a moron, but I can’t seem to find it. Although, to be fair, some fans (and I’m not naming names) do seem to demand that Berhalter play the young players intelligently.

It should be noted that this latter bit — playing the players intelligently — seems to be a complaint even when Berhalter plays lions instead of cubs.

Stop saying "First Division" as if that means jack squat.

Nobody's clamoring for Brian Iloski in the "First Division" of Poland at Legia Warsaw. Or Aaron Schoenfeld at Macabbi Tel-Aviv.

We're talking about a player who doesn't give us anything better than any other MLS striker and is actively worse than Jozy Altidore, the starter. What's more, he's a finished product, whereas Sargent has time and a high ceiling to improve. At 27, Zardes is who he is. A mediocre MLS forward at best, hoping for enough tap-ins that he can sky a few and still score enough to be employed.

PSG is trying to sell him because they are playing to WIN the UCL and 10 million for an academy kid is good business.

I think Tim is going to be very good to great, a lot of great players don't have a spot at PSG.

Do you actually watch games? Because I can't understand how you'd draw that conclusion if you'd bothered to open your eyes. Morris had one cutback that he skied. He didn't do much of anything else.

That is just weak. Fight your own battles. What anybody else thinks is their business. I find the mob mentality odious.

Well the thing is he didn't do that at all in the first half and only started doing it into the second, and seemingly only because he just wasn't finding the game waiting for the ball as he had been (or possibly 2/2 instructions from GGG)...and/but when he did he was completely ineffective.

Put Zardes or Morris's head on that performance and people on here would tear it to shreds.

Honestly the thing that angers me most about the forward position is that Andrew Wooten didn't even make the 40. He's by far the most in form American forward right now

just curious if it was just me. the poster doesnt seem capable of surviving a heavily moderated forum.

It is amusing that posters that were part of the biggest mob this place will ever see, have an issue with people now.

Making a judgement about any player in that game seems silly as the lineup was so flawed. Yet you have surprisingly come to strong conclusions on foreign based players Robinson, Sargent, and CCV.

Any US forward would have struggled in that game. The fact that Sargent was able to force a tough save and set up Mihalovic for what should have been an assist is impressive. Makes sense that Zardes who could have never gotten that shot off on purpose and Mihsilovic who was completely in over his head in that game are on the roster.

And good god, it's not a good Crew team this year.

/whatever response about Trapp you're already typing to this post is probably accurate.

This bears repeating. Sarachan's rosters were experiments in the young side of the pool.

These young players were/are plenty good enough to beat Guyana, Trinidad, and Panama, Jamaica, etc. with 2-3 veterans sprinkled in for the experience. Then, the story surrounding the roster would be that GGG is "building for the future". You can take losing to Jamaica & Venezuela like that when you've got a young team. NOT when you're building a team to win now... and you still fill it with bad decisions anyway...

Look at the 76ers in NBA basketball, or the Cubs and Astros in recent years in major league baseball. Yes, fans weren't overly happy with losing. However, they could stomach it because they were all playing young kids and building for the future. The results are showing that things are bearing fruit in those cases.

Berhalter appears hopelessly caught in the middle. Either play veterans and go all out to win, or go ahead and play the kids knowing full well the fans will at least be somewhat sympathetic to playing a bunch of young kids.

The majority of the team is under the age of 25.

I'll also point out player development generally comes from clubs. If we don't care about winning this tournament (which I absolutely do) and only care about players futures, the best thing for Josh Sargent's future is to stay with Bremen this summer

I will just say this, whatever the US team gets this Gold Cup will be well deserved. It is amazing the accumulation of average players Berhalter was able to gather together. You really have to be full of yourself to bypass some other players because you believe so much in your system and how amazing you are as a coach. Tata couldn’t bring his best players due to injuries, opting out, commitments etc, but at the end picked the best available. Berhalter on the other hand got engaged in January camp and married them this Gold Cup, the honeymoon will be fun one way or another for all of us. Can’t wait until the second round if they make it.

Laurentowicz is tight with GB. He gave a quote to the media saying some Atlanta players feel USMNT call ups are a burden. While Jeff didn't name names in the media; probably a good bet he told Gregg. Guzan and Nagbe have not been in any camps even though they fit the profile of the type of MLS player that Gregg loves.

Other excuses were used. But there were the usual contradictions for everyone to see. In January, they were too tired from just playing. But Long and Ebobisse were there.

What was March? He knew them so didn't have to see them before the GC? Well, we are seeing that he already has his guys and they are not included.

Venezuela scored three pretty easily then stopped trying. They didn't even play defense the second half and we could not score.

He was the 24th cut and would have been on the roster if Lletget had not been hurt. So GB has him as our third best striker. Some here are saying he is the 2nd best easily. Minutes with his club doesn't matter.

Looking at the GC roster, club form seems to not be a factor at all.
