One of Campton's top guys has left for Cincinnati. Heard a lot of good things about him even from before he was with Campton. Kind of makes you think: so many of the big names have been around forever. If they really are good I guess it's not a problem but could this be limiting the growth of younger coaches forcing them to leave the state for opportunity?

Who either was, or currently is, a top coach in Chicago that has been developed or come into the scene in the last 5 years?

Looked over the Fire U19 roster and all but 3 looks like their grad year is 2019 or before. There are only 2 players born 2002 on the U17 team, so that brings us to 5 players. They would need to bring in a whole new batch of kids for one year.

U17s this year is predominantly 2003 (all but 2) born so although I can see some move up to U19, they would technically be playing against potentially 2 years up vs. some players if playing at U19. I thought they did a decent job this year realistically playing vs. 2002s this season, according to their record.

I would venture to guess this is just a one time shot and after this season, the U17s next year will move up the year after to the U19s.

What I've seen, on the boys side, there haven't been many NEW "good" coaches lately. JR at Sockers seems to do a good job. The brothers at Eclipse West(they've been around but seem more prominent lately) look like they have been doing well.

I think it was mentioned earlier that the '02s moved from Fire to FC United following their coach CT. Interesting that the Fire 17's (almost all 03's) beat them in the final game of the regular season.

Chicago Rush looks like they are taking over Crystal Lake Force boys high school program. My guess - not enough boys to facilitate teams? First step in transitioning Force as a whole to a Rush franchise?

Area is such a damn mess!

There is a coach in the West burbs that will have a powerhouse team u13 this fall. No one will expect it but will rival any u13 team in the state.

    Characteristics:

True sign a coach is good; players follow the coach to another club if they happen to leave for greener pastures. Ask yourself, would you follow you current coach elsewhere? If not, they generally aren't all that.

Any coach playing and teaching possession soccer is worth going to or following for player development long-term

Passion, planning, analysis, Skills and tactical development. Pass if they don't have it.

The current 02 FC team only has maybe two kids that came from the 02 Fire DA. The FC team actually has a lot of kids from the old Fire North team.

The Eclipse 03 girls are a very good team. But it is the same group of girls less 1 YNT player that lost 3-0 to Legends in the quarterfinals of the DA playoffs last year. So definitely one of the top teams at their age but there are a few better.

And the Hawks top center back did not play as she is currently at a YNT camp.

6 of the top 2006 FCU players are heading to Eclipse North - potentially 2 more. Also understand they picked up a few solid players from the NW burbs. I'm thinking the NB 06 team may be better then what they have in OB next season. That may not be the only challenge for Eclipse OB however...

Players leaving FCU, unstable environment at Eclipse OB, Sockers just plugging along may make up for where these other clubs are shooting themselves in the foot.

Not the top players, only 1 of them is a real top player. Rest are mainly local girls that started at SFC. From what I hear they have got some of top 05 and 04 girls going over, including a national team player

This is not according to what I have been told but that does come from an Eclipse coach so perhaps - a bit off.

All bench players currently apart from 1 player. Be interesting to see what other players they have attracted from NW burbs.

I Wouldn’t be surprised if more follow, FCU are becoming more and more of a joke. Increased prices, more travelling, awful coaching, more tournaments with clubs they have mutual agreements with to attend tournaments, as well as teams having to sign up for their own tournaments to fill gaps and massive field limitations. Multiple current parents have commented about constant changes or cancellations for practices, and they don’t think twice about ramming 6 or 7 teams on one 11v11 field.

So no FC United girls teams in DA playoffs? Found that a tad surprising. (Maybe I shouldn’t have been)

While that may happen, I don't think it's the case in this situation. The coach is an Ohio guy through and through. It's a good move for him and allows him to be closer to his family.

Coaches think parents are "delusional" regarding their kids skill set -

    Regarding delusional parents comments ....

This parent is wondering why coaches and clubs can't be up front and honest with the parents regarding $ and playtime -- let them know when team offer is made where their child stands on roster, who coach is and potential play time on the team for next year so all can make an informed decision.

I suspect I know the answer - its because if the truth were told the club and coach would potentially loose the $$ to another club.

Eclipse is famous for this - "congratulations - you made team - wait there are 25 in the pool and you may never play in a single game ? -- but we won't tell your daughter that until after you have payed your $$ (and given up potentially better play time options for your child at other clubs) - but hey, you made the team - you are a part of the Eclipse nation - congrats "
Does no one any favors -- coaches or players or parents. - lines the pocketbook of Eclipse and RD though. and in all fairness probable same thing at FCU

If clubs would be upfront and honest about what team kid is going to be placed on, roster size, where the kid is on that roster, and who the coach is - BEFORE they take the parents $$$ for next year there could be a lot less delusional parents and kids out there regarding abilities and playtime.

It's why OB is the clear winner in moving the 2nd ECNL badge to Northbrook. OB can now return to pool play, an effective model for chasing national titles and cashing checks. They will do very well at both for the foreseeable future.

Anyone know if they will try and introduce pool play at Eclipse North?

I see it differently. A parent who is delusional (it’s many but not all) about their child’s ability (read: is too hopeful) is independent of pool play and making teams right after tryouts as opposed to the start of the next season.

Personally, having experienced both, I much prefer waiting to the fall to make teams. It makes so much more sense and the fact that parents are so wrapped up about what team their child on just speaks volumes about this delusion we speak of (it’s not about the team you’re on -it’s about the environment and training you’re in. Read about Kevin DeBruyne and so many others youth careers and how so many weren’t on 1st teams to start)

Back to the point. For one a “tryout” tells you something but can be very misleading. Better to see the new players mix with those who have been on the team for a year or more over the last two weeks in August. Most (all?) kids are terrified of tryouts , clam up, play cautious or go overboard the other way and turn off their future teammates. 1.5 hrs to judge a kid and place them in a competitive club? Nah...give them a few weeks to get acclimated/comfortable then see where they fit in the pecking order.

Places like Sockers can do this because a) they have enough kids (usually 3-4 teams in a pool at Schaumberg) and b) the level is high and outside of those way above everyone else the differences are much more subtle. It just makes sense and I don’t feel in the least it’s about a money grab.

But there’s those smaller, less competitive community clubs where the differences are so easy to tell between team 1 or two so why wait? Make the team and call it a day. Makes sense in that context.

Btw Pool play is a proven methodology to improve all players. That’s why they do it. I love it. It’s not about the elite kids over here and the rest over there. Yes those breakouts do occur and for good reason. But plenty of times, at least at Sockers, where everyone gets mixed up from team 1 to team 4 it’s great.

Ironically it’s the psycho parents who think winning is everything that complain most about pool play Ive come to learn. They think there elite kid shouldn’t be bothered with the “Hoi Polloi”. That it brings their kid down. Talk about delusional.

I wish a certain club in the Naperville/Aurora area would have gone to pool play or go into more of a club atmosphere. It is basically a bunch of separate teams that want nothing to do with each other. There is one age group with 3 teams but none of them have ever practiced or scrimmaged together. If a girl does get a chance to practice with a higher level team she is then frozen out at practice.

If referring to TC, there 06 is a pool for the fall Midwest league. Of course, they only have 20 girls who are in that age group. ;)I know of a few clubs in the area that have three clubs in a age bracket, with girls on the B team better than the A.

Another club with 20 for the midwest league with potential rotation of bottom players or who get A/B team exposure and practice.

TC had a 06 team in IWSL B. They tend to carry 19+ on their elite team

You are right however they only will have one team for the fall Midwest qualifier and no IWSL. Their current elite team which played in the spring qualifier carried only 13-14 girls and borrowed from the IWSL b team. Talk about a mess. A pool only works now with 20-22 girls.

PN is back at tc and coaching 01 02 03. I believe he was let go from CUP or didn’t see eye to eye with them. Their 04 05 teams are quite good. Hovever there is a steep decline after that sans the 07.

The gap was closed in the west burbs faster than was imagined.
