Atlanta purportedly received deposits totaling 31,000 seats, of which 22,000 were converted into actual season tickets. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016...-set-new-season-ticket-record-expansion-teams
When did we all become convinced that Twellman is a foot soldier for The Don? Or are we just name calling because he said something we don't like? On this we agree. However, I don't have a problem with them putting some marketing spin on it in order to create a FOMO among the city's residents and to make the franchise look better to potential sponsors. I know I'm going to be in the minority with this opinion but when it comes to the people that are in charge of operating the business of an MLS soccer franchise, I don't mind if they're "marketing sluts first" and soccer guys elsewhere. As a matter of fact I think I kind of prefer it. The issue with PSV is that they're terrible marketing sluts, bad business people, and most likely dishonest in their practices. There is nothing wrong with creating buzz, y'all, it's good for the league in general. Y'all need to take the Austin blinders off. And save me the PSV apologist name calling. They suck at their job but that doesn't make what they're doing inherently evil.
Apparently this person and others bought Austin ticket deposits with no intent to actually buy tickets under the misguided assumption that them doing so would prevent the seats from being purchased at later date.
Yeah, I sorta thought that's maybe what it meant, but couldn't wrap my mind around anyone being that stupid.
They They sold “memberships”, not season tickets, not season ticket deposits. They sold a spot in line.
OK, how many of you Columbus fans will be getting refunds for the 8 seat Austin memberships deposits in a couple of years?
As I pointed out in a lengthy post in MLS N&A, Austin FC's FAQs on the subject are deceptive and seem to suggest that a depositor purchases an option to acquire up to eight season tickets. There is no clear indication that there is a line or that some 10,000 of the 30,000 seats on which options have been placed are illusory. Instead, the suggestion is that the deposit secures the option to purchase the specified number of seats. If the depositor demand really exists for 30,000 season seats (a big if, of course), a few years from now when depositors seek to exercise their options, some who get nothing but a refund worth less than the present value of their $50 and a place in a ten thousand-long waiting list will be furious and at least one will pursue legal action for having afforded Austin FC a zero-interest loan based on false pretenses, which an enterprising attorney will cast as a class action. Doesn't mean the lawsuit will succeed, but I'm willing to bet that if demand is as advertised, which is to say far exceeding the supply of seats claimed with deposits, there will be a lawsuit.
Can confirm. I recall the pages long digression into such in the Save(d) The Crew original epilogue thread. Also, FYP a bit, but also not really fixed, just made it a funny so I could do this.
I assume it's the word "memberships" you find so amusing. Are you purposefully ignoring the words "season ticket" that come right before "memberships?
So it's exactly like this line on the Austin FC home page? "Reserve your spot in line for Season Ticket Memberships with a refundable $50 deposit."
That would be some gloriously dirty shit if folks did that. What would be even better is they just had a bot do it and wasn't even real people.
The Membership means you bought actual multi game passes. If it was $50 to reserve up to 8 tickets, why would someone not reserve the full 8? Its the same $50 no matter what. So I will be generous and say each hold was 6.5 seats on average and be generous again and say each hold will on average acutely buy 2.5 seats. So ruffly 4600 deposits were made. This will result in 11,500 season tickets. That is respectable no question but it is not the 2nd Atlanta. I have no doubt that when the team starts it will be the new shiny thing in town. But with PSV as your owner it will wear off. He is not going to spend the money to bring in big names. He will try to money ball it. He got lucky doing that hear with Berhalter but my guess is lighting will not strike twice. You guys will struggle to make the playoffs and probably only do it once in your first 5 years. By year 6 your averaging around 13-16k a game. Most likely closer to 13k. But put it this way. Six years from now you hate Precourt.
Its cute that you come hear still and try to get us worked up. But at the end of the day you are the one who has Precourt as an owner. So joke is on you.
@loonytoony What awful things did you do in your previous life to be stuck supporting teams owned by Mike Ashley and Anthony Precourt?
My other prediction: Some time in at least the next 10 years our country will be in a recession again. Austin will be particularly hard hit. As it has a lot of venture capitol that is based on highly speculative projections. This along with your property taxes will cool down your growth significantly. All this said that will be another head wind going against Austin FC.
The key difference being that your $50 only reserves your place in line. Not exactly the same thing. Not actual season tickets. Your literally just paying for a spot in line. But yeah.... keep at it dipwad.
We might be rid of the fat man yet. Rumors of a Sheik takeover.. Mark my words, there’ll be thousands of screaming geordies covering themselves in oil if that happens. You’re welcome for that mental image.
