The McCann number is the only real shocker for me but it's one hell of a shocker.

Does the Rooney number include what Everton and ManU were picking up, or that on top of this number? I think that there are a number of $100-200K guys who are going to have good cases for raises if they can keep their performance up through the season.

More at $164k is a bargain.

As I said, a bunch of 100-200k guys are going to be looking for raises. How much longer Zoltan and McCann on the books? Just imagine if our form picks up when Mora gets back?

    From the Athletic: https://theathletic.com/1022738/201...not-tell-you-how-much-trash-talking-there-is/

“I would do appearances at like Boys and Girls clubs in D.C. and the kids would give me shit about how much money I made or how I had a Nissan Maxima,” says Boswell. “I had a Maxima, another guy had an Impala. We were at one of those places in a particularly low-income area, and this local kid had his hands on the fence and as I’m leaving he was just like ‘Hey Boswell: you can do better.’ That’s the most hurtful thing anyone’s ever said to me.”

Boswell always is a good interview, the guy is just ********ing funny. As for the DCU salaries, I would say both Mora and Segura are underpaid significantly. Stieber way overpaid for a sub. As for McCann, wasn't he waived by Atlanta in the preseason? Does that mean Atlanta are picking up most of his salary? IIRC, that was in some Goff piece at the time that I'm too lazy to track down.

Atlanta is picking up most of McCann's salary, yes. I think DCU is only on the hook for the minimum.

Mora and Moreno not Segura. Segura is over paid for a deck chair who has a great game every 9 games.

You're right about Moreno, we disagree about Segura.

Tactically Segura plays 8 games like crap, giving the ball away, playing poor defense, hitting crosses that would not strike the side of a barn. Then in the 9th game he scores two goals on brilliant shots. He is not nearly worth what he is paid when he is good 1 out of 9.

And I will admit I was wrong about Moreno.

Everyone needs a deckchair or two. It's just Segura is a $200K deckchair I would prefer didn't get left out in the storm and washed overboard. :whistling:

Mora and Moreno we would be wise to secure, they are worth more than that.

Wasting money on Stieber. A more ambitious FO would have bought out his contract and released him. Maybe we can sell him for some traffic cones and FAM during the July transfer window. Or maybe Ben can figure out how to get him involved in the team.

0.0% chance they were going to buy him out. First he's good depth, second this is the team that kept a retired Chris Rolfe on the payroll and third, if he was really worth the money, someone from Europe or MLS would come in for him. We bought him when the season was falling apart last year and Levien sent our scouts out to find some nice free transfers. He plays a nice ball on free kicks, but other than that ... ? Hungary's best player is a right back who plays for RB Lepzig and a couple guys riding the pine at Hoffenheim or Bologna, with the rest playing playing in European backwaters, save the 2 dudes playing for SKC. Not much market for players who can barely get by the Faroe Islands and Andorra.

The FO keeping Steiber around as insurance until the summer window isn't the worst move. In reality Ben should probably give Steiber less minutes and give the little time Zoltan does get to Griffin Yow. I doubt any MLS team would be interested unless he suddenly gets a green card.

At this point a free transfer to Europe this summer seems like the most logical option

How can he give him “less” minutes? Less would be none at that point.

That's my point, Steiber shouldn't be seeing the field over Yow.

I have assumed since the start of the season that Stieber was going in July back to a Bundesliga 2, Ligue 2 or Serie B team on a free barring some catastrophic injury to either Rodriguez, Arriola or Segura. Slotting Yow into the Stieber role on the squad makes sense in that situation. The larger questions is with that salary off the books, who is brought in to provide real depth at forward. We have seen that Segura isn't that and neither is Amarikwa. Quincy is the classic 10-15 minute sub when you are chasing the game trying to get a goal or if you need someone to run and around and cause havoc -- he's not a 90 minute solution at forward.

Did you see my qualifier of "A more ambitious FO"? LA bought out dos Santos' contract and immediately worked to replace him. We've seen DCU do this in season one with Suarez when they replaced him with Moreno.

Did I think there was a chance we'd cut Stieber??? No. I'm just fed up with a team playing small market games when DC should be a large market.

In fact, any time Seguara is playing on the wings, Stieber should be in there instead unless it's 10 minutes left and we are parking the bus.
