That would be terrible. A loan with option means he is still on our books and his value is amortised, and Torino wants us to pay a part of his salary. We get to save what, 4M for one year?

If no one wants to buy him outright we should be relying on him next year.

He looked incredible for feyenoord when he first broke through. Tidy player, cheap wages and no fee who fits the system. Could be a squad player who has the ability and experience to step up. I see moves like this as smart.

yea, fair point. I'm just desperate to get his wages off the books and make room for someone like Coric.

Our only real hope is if China comes through. :sneaky:

This compensation thing for Petrachi is so bizarre. Yesterday it was an academy player, now it's apparently Pastore. Cangiano actually seemed realistic, Goat not so much.

How can it honestly be taking this long to find an agreement?

I’d like to offer @Andreas as compensation for Petrachi.

taking a stab here... knowing Italians, Cairo is probably pissed off because he feels disrespected so now he's going to put the screws to us. I'd bet if Pallotta came out, apologized and said he handled it badly and should have talked to Cairo first it would go a long way.

Italians can be so damn stubborn and will cut off their nose to spite their face.

One of these is Dzeko, the other is Firmino. I'll let you guess which is which.

    Choose wisely:

Although humorous, this doesn't really matter because strikers will do what their coach tells them to. Some want their striker to drift into spaces and some want them to occupy the centerbacks, it is all about the system.

So if EDF asked Dzeko to be heat-map number 1, he could do it?

I wouldn't say he could do that because his skillset is different than Firmino - clearly. He may not be all over the pitch, on the wings and in the midfield - but why would you ever do that to Dzeko? Putting him out wide would make no sense. Firmino plays in a system with Salah and Mane who can drift inside and sometimes act as a center forward.

    It is just different.

Good, because he can't. Dzeko would die.

Meanwhile, Firmino could survive doing what Dzeko's asked to do.

We can act like it's all system based, or we can just admit Dzeko's severe lack of work-rate/pace has restricted us from becoming anything resembling a modern attack.

No but Firmino couldn't be a target ST like Dzeko... does that make him a worse player?

I'm ready to move on from Dzeko but I don't think comparing a heat map is a valid argument. Different leagues, coaches, systems. Hell, I could probably pull up a heat map of Iturbe and the entire pitch may be colored.

I'd bet my life Firmino could do Dzeko's role better than Dzeko could do his.

It's not really an argument. I was just making fun of lazy-ass Dzeko. I realize I used one of the most active #9's in the game as a comp - that was the point, haha.

Nah man. Look at the top 4 teams in each of the big leagues and tell me which of them is trying to work with someone like Dzeko. Even Piggy's heat-map would crush Edin's.

If you can find an Iturbe heat-map, you are a god of the internet. Especially if it's from the Mexican League.

Truthfully, I was going to make a follow-up point about Fonseca football, and how we'd need something more along the lines of Firmino, but we went down this path instead.

I don't want to argue these points.. I think you are 100% correct on some but I think a bit unfair on some... like why compare the top 4 teams when Roma wasn't a top 4 team? Little unfair, IMO.

Yea, I agree for about 80% of the games this year Dzeko didn't give a crap. He was terrible and lazy. He needs to go and he will. I just think this argument is a little thin. Heat map just shows where you've been... not how quickly you got there or what you did when you got there. I mean if it was a system where you didn't have your ST roaming around but pressing high up in the middle of the pitch and Dzeko was doing this, this map would be completely BS. Unfortunately Dzeko didn't work to press in the center of the pitch nor did he roam around pressing.

There are about 100 other much more substantial arguments you could make as to why we need to sell his lazy ass, IMO.

My comments regarding Iturbe was about his time here. That dude ran all over the damn pitch.. much like 6 year olds do.

Because we should've been. Unfortunately, our #9 scored the same amount of goals as the number on the back of his shirt.

he's not the only reason we didn't. Almost every player and EdF and Monchi and JP share in that blame.

I'm not defending Dzeko at all.. he was crap this year. He's the highest paid player and didn't put out any effort and that's unforgivable. I'm glad we are playing hardball with Inter but honestly I'd be happy with the 13 mil and getting his wages off our books. Hopefully we get more and screw Inter because I don't think Dzeko is going to respond well the Conte and will probably pout.

I think he does have offers from China but he doesn’t want to go. He still believes he can play at a high level.
