San Jose Earthquakes - Sacramento Republic FC U.S. Open Cup (Tues., 6/11) pre/in/postgame thread [R]

Don't know anyone on Sac but for sure on the Quakes...

 

Given the fact we were missing five or six starters today, and our depth is already being tested, I don’t get the sense were set up for some great cup run. That said I’m hoping for the best and we should be at Sacramento at home.

 

Maybe time to see if tarball has improved at all?

 

Regardless of Vega's performance, the first Open Cup should be Tarbell's. He has earned it by just being the bench man so far this year. Once Sacramento is eliminated (hopefully), Almeyda will pursue the remainder of Open Cup seriously as it is only 5 wins to achieve success. He may go Vega and some regulars anyway as a statement to his pursuit. As a side note, Sacramento beat New Mexico United - the 1st place team in the USL Western Division - last night 3-0, They may be very tired Tuesday or very very pumped up to face San Jose!

 

Are the players who were out on Sat going to be out still? Besides the starting eleven on Sat, the only offensive option is Haji, whom I think should get playing time on Tuesday. The rest of the bench is midfielders and defenders.

 

I'll be upset if Haji doesn't get a start. I think Almeyda takes these tournaments seriously, as evidenced by his record in similar cups in Mexico. I'd rather see JT get the start over Tarbell, if we are having a designated "Cup Keeper". JT is very good with his feet, at least.

 

There’s a long break until our next league match and we have to win this game...

I say we play as many of our first team players and allowable internationals to make sure we advance.

I think that they are all still with their national teams, plus Jackson and J.T. will be away with the USMNT U-23s. If Shea and Danny are still out it will be pretty thin. I wonder if Cade Cowell will be available since this is not a league game?

 

Cowell just played for Reno so he should be eligible.
