I know that, but I can see Nadeshiko making very hard work of the Argentina game. They should win easily, but the way they play it might take a while for them to break them down.
And the argentinian forwards nothing... both yellows were very common fouls not deserving the card. Edit: And I'm worried cause now both could be sent off with a minor contact with Banini and the argentinians with strong and dangerous challenges, dont have even a verbal ammonestation.
You know what, you're right. They really could fail to make it out of the group if this continues. The funniest thing is that in this tournament we've already seen that a number of smaller nations have caught up with the big teams in terms of tactics, yet Japan is currently struggling against one of the few mediocre teams that don't play modern football. The other funny thing is that Japan have more cautions than shots on target. And by funny I mean sad.
I've been watching this match with interest. I hope I do not step on any toes by posting here. What I see is quite a bit of Japan making the second or third best choices. It is like they are just a little off and making a choice and then second guessing their choice and then picking the one that is either the safest or choosing the right one too late. Maybe they are thinking and then rethinking too much. They would be better of just playing their game. I have seen other teams get themselves in trouble at WWCs doing that very thing. Like when the US has let poorer teams hang around and then made a match out of what should have been an easy win. I expect Japan to get it together over the half and then put real attacks in place. BTW: Unless there is a change of style on the part of Argentina Japan needs to go against their nature a bit and use the long cross field pass in the attacking third because Argentina is swarming the ball and that usually leaves the weak side open.
Well there have been a couple of attempts at goal by Japan but they missed. I wonder if they will realize that the short little passes and intricate play is not working particularly when executed slowly like Japan is currently doing. 15 minutes into the second half and Japan has missed at least 5 chances to make a big switch and open up the field.
What is it with this team and late tackles? I'm not saying any of them were particularly bad, but they need to cut this out.
Actually everything is a little "late" today for Japan. Their speed of play is about the poorest I remember seeing from Japan. Endo is in and that may pick up a bit.
Has Japan had a shot on goal yet? I remember a few that missed but I cannot remember even one save by Argentina's keeper.
