The highlights don't say it all, Triestina had dominated the game in Pisa on wednesday, even if we had more occasions to score, Today there was a net supremacy of Pisa on the field, 8 minutes before the end of the second half, our player Marconi was flying all alone towards the keeper, and he was taken down by a defender; last man foul, straight red, and Triestina playing in 10. We still had to go to the extra time though, Marconi scored the 2-1 three minutes in, and after that the game was basically done, we were playing like cat and mouse, although we couldn't put the game to sleep, and Triestina was playing with pride; then at the end we also found the third goal, and it was the apotheosis
Klinsmann was shit and should have been fired well before he was. Earnie Stewart and USSF ********ed up the coach search and Berhalter has been absolutely horrible and undeserving of anymore benefit of doubt. He has not shown he is ready for this level in any way.
Well, I'm glad that Steffen is better playing the ball out of the back than Hamid. Goodness knows that Steffen never would put a ball in that was the secondary assist on the opponent's score.
Can the Trapp/Zardes experiment end and be called a failure? Or do I have to watch it unravel in actual important games later this month? I loved that Holden (or whoever was announcing) was not sugar-coating how bad the US Men were in that game. Sorry I missed Alexi's rant, but I know there must have been one. I believe Landon pounded on the table in despair during his short commentary after the game - I lost most of the aftermath on my recording. Durkin was trying to do too much - but in his defense, the guys behind him were doing too little. The one good save our GK made was off a great assist by Durkin right to their striker in front of goal
For the Trapp/Zardes experiment to be considered a "failure" requires the possibility that it could have been a "success". Since Trapp/Zardes and "success" is a null set, Trapp/Zardes cannot be considered a "failure."
Pretty accurate Players i was least impressed by this WC were Keita and Konrad DLF. Durkin wasn't the worst in the squad but so many of the guys around him are sharper. Whether it's his job to help the NT Ben stunted Durkins potential growth in the last 18 months
This is so sweet to me cause Holden voted Cordeiro and the status to remain in power and is shocked...SHOCKED to see such poor results from that decision I think it's hilarious. As long as skilled players like Hamid and Sargent are illogically frozen out i hope USMNT continues to falter. It's unlikely but i'm hoping they have a complete meltdown and crash out of GC just so real change can take place before 2022
Well, when you lose to a Jamaican team primarily composed of USL players and then get mauled by a team that never has qualified for the WC, you have to expect a great deal of patience has been lost. As a number of folks noted, the Trapp/Zardes combo is a disaster. If we continue to see that, then we will be watching a coach who believes in a "system" but unfortunately doesn't have the players to execute it on an international level. One thing I didn't realize is that Beerholder's coaching winning percentage at Hammarby and Columbus combined was around 40%. That is not Sir Alex level quality there.
A lot of people speak about Venezuela as if they're Honduras or Guatemala. They have better players than the USA. Solomon Rondon is better than any striker the US has fielded. Just as one example. Unfortunately for thr US, there's no chance in hell of us getting someone even half as good as Sir Alex was. I can't blame fans for being upset at what they see. I just know that this is step 1 and my expectations are tempered.
I agree about Venezuela, if they were in CONCACAF, they probably would be close to automatic qualifiers each round, their curse is to be in CONMEBOL where you know two spots are going to Brazil and Argentina, Uruguay is a likely third and everyone else is fighting for two spots. I think what has folks arsed is that for the last two games, this team looks feckless, not even overmatched, just feckless like they neither give a damn nor WTF they should be doing.
The competitive imbalance makes the USWNT games a hard watch. The Reggae Girlz are an interesting squad to watch. Watched the first half vs Brazil and they did better than expected mostly due to goalie play.
Good article on the game yesterday - well, less about the game than the overarching problem with the women not getting paid - but the game features prominently My favorite line, regarding the WNT goal total ... — more goals than the U.S. men’s team has managed in total over the past four World Cups (counting 2018, for which the USMNT failed to qualify). https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...151908-8c9a-11e9-adf3-f70f78c156e8_story.html
I don't have a problem with the women scoring 13 and playing hard for 90 minutes. I do have a problem with the excessive celebrations after 7 or 8 - 0. Especially Rapinoe and Morgan. I get that 5 goals is awesome, but not that awesome considering the opponent.
