He was never good. He’s the captain and starts solely because he’s a local boy.

If they start a Crew All Time Worst XI, Josh William's is a lock. The man is simply a black hole

Thierry Henry spoke very highly of how he ran the team when he faced us years ago. I wouldn't say "never good." However, he has declined the last couple years and this year hasn't been starter quality.

The Good: we moved the ball faster and scored twice.

The Bad: Zack is leaving and we keep getting thinner. When is Afful back?

We have 4 points in the last 10 games. Is that the fewest in any 10 game stretch in team history?

So were the refs as bad as they seemed live? I didn’t get to see any replays on any of the more controversial plays(hand ball, etc).

Is Eric Denton the left back in that XI? Because a Denton - Williams outside back duo would turnover enough to be the mythical perpetual motion machine.

Which leads into... for a team that is about possession and has been about possession for a few years, we turnover the ball cheaply an awful lot.

Santos, for all of his faults, at least recognizes something in our lackluster play and steps up to do something about.
I feel like he is rising to these challenging times while others seem to be riding it out.

Bonus observation from my wife: (on NYCFC's physical play) "I thought Chicago was bad but these guys are horrible."

    My 2 cents:

First half (especially first 30 mins or so) were pretty good. Team played with pace and actually transitioned. Santos had said previously that he definitely prefers to play wide after GB said he could play wide or inside as a faux #10, but I thought he did well. Give him a few more games and I expect him to improve, though he’ll take even more fouls playing centrally which worries me.

NYC’s 2 goals were both ridiculous. The first was a terrible touch that turned out to be an amazing pass to Heber, who slotted it in from the penalty spot basically. Steffen had no chance. The second goal was a rip from 35 yards. If it was Bendik in goal, everybody would be screaming how shit he is, how can he let it a goal like that. Since it’s Steffen, either nothing gets said or the defenders are blamed. So, it’s just one of those goals that you can’t do much about. And if I’m being brutally honest, I love Steffen but you can tell his head has been in Manchester for a bit now. Steffen from the last two seasons doesn’t pet that in.

Other than those two fluke goals, did NYC really threaten? Not much that I can remember. Usually after a loss when the coach says we played well and hold your heads high blah blah blah, its bullshit. Last night though was promising, especially when you consider Afful and Valenzuela being out, Afful coming back will help, him staying wide while Robinho goes inside.

I’m very worried about our GK situation though.

One thing to add to this.....

Last night the Crew possession was 38%. NYC 62%.

If you were looking just at the possession stats, you would think we were dominated.

Each team had 13 shots. Each team had 4 shots on goal.

To Kyle's point, NYC didn't seem exceptionally dangerous. Yet this way have been the most dynamic the Crew has looked attacking this season.

I'm more than fine conceding possession every once in a while and countering at pace. Now maybe that changes a bit if we have a terrible goalkeeper and Porter decides that we need more possession so as not to put our defense under constant pressure.

But the most encouraging thing to me last night was quicker decision making in the center of the park, quicker transitions, and an engaged and active Accam (for those who were worried he's already in Nashville in his head).

The game is something to build on. It was probably the most pleasure I've had watching a Crew game in a few years.

You obviously weren't sitting anywhere near Mook and I then. We were pretty open about how badly Steffen screwed the pooch on that second goal.He stood there like his feet were in cement until the last second and then made a useless, futile dive for it as it went past him.

That was a very stoppable ball and it was a sad one to go out on.

We were speculating on when Porter would pull Steffen so the crowd could give him an SO but after that howler I wonder if Caleb decided to leave him in rather than have it look like he got yanked for pulling a brain fart.

No one would have thought he was being humiliated, that’s ridiculous.

Hard to say from tv how to blame steffen was. I will say though, he has been beat from a few long range shots while here. Makes me wonder if its a weakness of his.

So we're leaving for the game and Mook goes to my closet to grab a Crew jersey, and comes back with the one that Sirk and Flick bought for me at a gear sale ages ago. It became quite a conversation piece amongst someof the attendees.

First it was a guy who was pals with Matt Napoleon, who knew Barclay pretty well through him. Mostly he wanted to talk about Napoleon. Then another guy wanted to talk about how Barclay was a great talent thst the system failed. He impressed me because he referred to Barklay as a Pro40 instead of as a GenA. Some other clown was chatting with Mook about where he got the shirt but I was talking to somebody else about Higuian and missed most of it.

First we were robbed of a clear handball that should have resulted in a PK. I can only assume the ref thought it was unintentional so he acted like it never happened and called nothing. I just can’t understand why there is no VAR so my thinking is why can’t we have coach challenges just like the NFL?

We stayed after. They had a $10 roast beef sandwich that was quite good at the chef's table there. Well kept secret. Probably when I saw the shirt....

Matt's a pretty good guy. I've run into him at church events here and there, and we've talked a bit as we're from the same part of the country (his HS is one town south of mine on Street Rd.--yes that's a real street name--and his is the same HS Len Barker and the Bahr brothers went to). He's done some stuff to aid in Haiti that's pretty cool.

Pedro was fantastic as long as he is not getting DP money Im fine with keeping him on the team.

Accam not having a option for us to keep him means we better get a very good proven winger under 30 to replace him.

We play so much faster without Higuaín that this game was played at a faster pace which I personally prefer .

Josh Williams is not a outsideback and i would rather start Maloney or any of our wing backs. I also do not like Williams always as the #3 CB because I think Mensah & Sauro is choice A
Mensah & Crognale is equal to or better than Mensah & Williams. Crognale has potential and Williams is a career back up.

Josh was horrible and our defense without our starting outside backs is a clear weakness . Hopefully we will see Francis & Afful for most of the season.

Now about our center mids Guzman & Trapp

It’s not the best combo but Guzman passes better than Artur but doesn’t have his speed. Trapp is good but not elite athlete stops him from being a special talent. If Trapp is going to stay here longer he must be partnered with a exceptional athlete in my opinion you can’t have two guys who are slow and don’t contribute much on offense.

If we don’t get some answers at GK our next 10 games might be worse than the last 10. But can we get quality under the DP price ?

Im encouraged that Bez and Ownership will spend money and fix this roster but not sure if I’m encouraged about us having a good team that makes the playoffs with a legit chance but due to injuries I think Porter should be cut some slack ( talking to Hang specifically) I do t care what GB did last year because it’s irrelevant to this season.

When does the summer transfer window open?

Our next match is in 3 weeks so Afful and Francis should be back by then. I wanted Clark or Crognale to go in for Williams yesterday. Didn't see much from Maloney that makes me think he deserves more minutes.

Watched the replay this morning. I initial ball definitely hits his chest. May have bounced against his arm when he was on the ground, but video was inconclusive.

I like jersey watching at the stadium. I favor certain jerseys and years over others. I tend to not own any “special” jerseys. The jerseys hold more personal meaning and story. Though between my various close members of my family, I think we have many of the jerseys accounted for.

I have never made it to a gear sale. Because you know they come on random Wednesdays. And priority for years of STM? We have had season tickets for over fifteen years, but the holder’s names, addresses, etc. have changed and passed between us that who knows what the Crew has in the records.

I am neither the jersey whore (tm) nor a collector. My husband famously says that if something is not nailed down in the house that I just might sell, donate, or trash it at any time.

All that being said, at the LAFC game a guy wearing one of those sweet grayish jerseys from the 02 Open Cup was standing a few rows down from us. I kept remarking to those around me that the jersey was such a beaut. My husband laughed at one point and commented how odd I was acting about the jersey. I would have loved to pay the compliment to the fan (as I sometimes do), but kids tend to keep me occupied.

All I could say was that it was nice to see that sort of jersey in the stands.

Hey. A year late. My apologies for jersey shaming you last year. I had not seen you in ten years, and one of the first things I said was to question your choice of jersey.

That gray was gorgeous. One of the nicest ever

I was at Soccer Central in Westerville around that time and they had a rack of them, but there were no replicas; they were all the real thing at $ 120 a pop.

With 2 kids under 5 at home things were pretty tight and I just couldn't pull the trigger.

A couple weeks later I mentioned it to my wife and she said that if I liked it that much I should get it and she'd put it away for Christmas.

I stopped in 2 days later and they were all gone
