Exactly. Like Cuadrado. But yes, more concentration and we would score double digits.

You are reading too much into this. Pito is a decent keeper for the category considering how horrible is Tahiti's defense and with a lot of work and nurturing he could probably play professionally in a third tier league, like the FPC. IOW, he has the potential to be as good as Cuadrado, who has been a sure starter for almost a decade in FPC.

OTOH, I haven't watched the other games, not even the reels for Tahiti, but we have scored more on them than Poland and Senegal. Yeah, we have missed or Pito has stopped probably 10 or so goals, but the Colombian kids are not top tier either. Maybe some of them will get to play in Europe and a few will have productive careers, but there's not a lot of talent, and that's true for 90% of youth teams; only 3-5 will ever get to the senior NT and 1-2 will be bonafide stars, but the rest will either become journeyman players or even fade from the sport. Only once in a while does a country like us experience a golden generation where 8 players become NT starters and have long successful careers in top leagues.

@dapip, we were clearly the worst team in the field today. LOL.

That Pito Guy Will probably get a transfer to Real Madrid due to Cucho's shitty finishing.

What I'm trying to say is that this Game should have been remembered as a ********ing pummeling from Colombia, but what people Will remember is ********ing Pito saving 12 clear chances and his heroics against a team that had something like 24 shots on target.

[emoji2369] Dude, I was joking. Of course he had a good day but it was Colombia who made it to be 6-0 and not 14-0. Just a joke.
Btw, care to trade Wuilker for Cuadrado???

Did not watch the match except highlights cause I knew it was an easy win.

By the looks of it around here you would have thought we lost.

I am just happy to be injury free and in rhythm for the next round.
Whoever we face will be good and ready though. Just have to hope we come out on top somehow.

Or nobody will remember or care two months from today because this is an average team and most players will be gone from our memories by the time Copa America starts.

Except Cucho. He’s a player for the ages.

Cut Cucho some slack. It’s the first time he’s played with these guys. The other strikers like Sandoval if I’m not mistaken has gone through the process with the rest of the squad. Cucho is quality

No our guys are too scared to score. They over think their shots and prefer to pass

The midfield and service is awful

And yet again make a goalie look like a god

    Autocritica.

You know I would like to be positive and say, whoever loses between Uruguay and New Zealand will be the easier opponent...what I mostly care about so far is that we have scored a lot of goals compared to our last tournament so I pray that it will keep their confidence up no matter who we face next...

Huge blow since he is one of the only guys who does his job in the midfield.
But we have to see how things play out today. I won't be shocked to see Uruguay and New Zealand get a bunch of yellow suspensions in their matches too.

I'm going to say it again: These kids are no world beaters and after barely qualifying for the WC, I'm glad they won two games and have advanced to round of 16. Hopefully they can keep the stride and advance another round or maybe two, but IMHO, you are putting yourselves in a precarious position if you are thinking these guys would go far in the tournament.

Regarding the players, I can see maybe 3 or 4 kids that can make the cut for the NT eventually, and that includes Cucho, who is a little ahead of the learning curve, but as a evidenced by his rather bad finishing, is just a good prospect and not necessarily a star in the making. Most of these kids will become journeyman in our FPC or some league of similar level and some will fade away from the sport without us hearing from them again.

So, in short, just don't get your hopes too high neither regarding the team's real options or the amount of players worth watching, because in both cases you'd be most likely extremely disappointed.

It is hard to evaluate talent projections based on Youth World Cups.
If I remember correctly Falcao was not even a starter.
Only guy you could clearly see was a star was maybe JuanFer and even he really did nothing a couple of years and found a way to be one of our best players in a World Cup.
Trying to figure out what a young player will do for the Senior team is not a perfect science

All we can do is observe how players perform at club and at youth levels and what kind of attributes they have that can help us win.

Going into this tournament I think we all knew what we were getting. A team that has a hard time scoring but also does not give up goals during the run of play.
Just an ugly way to get results and we should be happy for making it to the next round and just hope we can find a way to beat whoever we face. It will be a war no matter who it is.

^Oh and I guess you can add James but we knew he was a star before the U20 World Cup even began.

Agreed. But the odds of these kids becoming stars are rather low.

Lara's decision, but still that team was stocked with talent and we got 7-8 fixture players for the NT for over a decade.

IMHO the logic works the other way around, meaning that the hit and miss ratio from almost any youth team is very low, with 2-3 out of 23 becoming good players and 1 or 2 out of every 2 or 3 cycles to become real stars.

Which was precisely my point, don't get your hopes high, realize only a few of these guys will be around for the 2022-2026 cycles.

Hence, why we shouldn't get our hopes too high. I really don't think this team has what it takes to make it deep in the tournament.
