In fairness, many English fans would need a lot of convincing to put Gomez and Foden ahead of De Ligt and De Jong. Probably also fair to argue that Mbappé will be among the closest challengers to Mbappé.

I believe Gomez is a far better all round defender than De ligt. Also foden has more potential than De jong

I know you do, but the people who think otherwise are not by any means all foreign, and those who are foreign are not necessarily motivated by anti-English sentiment. Many will be basing their opinions of DL and DJ on the evidence of this season.

Tbf whilst DL and DJ have clearly earned the right to be considered superior to the English counterparts mentioned it is worth noting that De Jong is 3/4 years older than Foden so this isn't really a debate that can be had now. In terms of the De Ligt-Gomez comparison it is extremely easy to conceive that if the latter hadn't been clattered by that Burnley player he would've most likely been a mainstay in a defence of a team that got 97 points in the best league in the world and will likely win the champions league. Admittedly having VVD alongside you certainly helps but Liverpool's defence was even better at the start of the season when Gomez was playing. If Gomez can get back to full fitness and play a full season, then this could be an interesting comparison come this time next year.

Let’s stop overrating our young players

It’s bitten us before with the ‘golden generation’ who were plain average

I do agree to an extent that english players are not viewed with as much awe abroad. I honestly have always felt that is down to our performance as a national team on the world stage. Vis-a-vis the worlds best were no where near italy or brazils number of world cup wins, spain or increasingly Frances world cup or european cup wins. So the facts are th facts. We have been successful in european club competition though, but when ive had this arguement with foriegners they say its more about yorke and solskjaer than sherrignham, or salah and mane than taa.

Think Foden and Gomez have world class potential, but de Ligt and de Jong are certainly ahead of them right now. Gomez needs to stay fit all next season and hopefully Foden gets more minutes.

Gomez is a far better all round player than de ligt. De ligt is an old fashioned defender. Not that great on the ball. He crumbled in the second half against spurs. Gomez is comfortable in posession, quick and a great passer

I doubt there are many managers in England or abroad that would rather have Gomez than de Ligt.

There are plenty of managers who would can their starting centre backs in a heartbeat to have both though.

Probably due to his injury record though rather than football ability. Gomez is quality when fit but that’s the issue with him like most of our talents, for some reason you think there’s a career ending injury just around the corner unfortunately.

That generation were good players , they just had the wrong setup around them. Sven was a complete waste of a manager. In the tournaments he lined us up in a shit 4-4-2 , never practiced pens or did any physical prep work. Hence us dying in the 2nd half of every big game.

The current setup with those players would have yielded some better success.

That's down to marketing. He's bigged up all across Europe by every journalist and sports show. Whereas Gomez get on with his job without the hype. Let's be honest would Beckham be the superstar he was without global marketing?

De Ligt looks a born leader to me. He's a massive character at such a young age. Few players have that.

    I don't think its marketing.

He's bigged up because he's a massive talent and people all around Europe see that. What incentive is there to overhype de Ligt? He's performed at the highest level at 19. He's rated because he's been great.

Not denying he is a top defender potentially, though spurs mullered him in the second half . Just saying Gomez is a more technically gifted defender. De ligt is an old school centreback

They had Llorente playing on Blind and hitting him with long balls. Nothing really that De Ligt could have done about it - it was an issue with the coach not making the required subs.

  21. From many posts of you I get the impression you donot rate de Ligt or FdJong at all. That's fine as you're entitled to that opinion of course.
However, unless you're posting anonymus while being a top scout or DoF of a really big club, I wonder how you can explain the difference between your opinion and that of the people who actually run clubs and judge players for a living. Just curious about that.
And for your information I really like the current young crop of English youth as being assets to the future of world football.

I do rate them. Just sick of foreign supporters (not all) bigging up foreign players and taking every opportunity to slag of English players every chance they get

No one is doing that though

They are all quality but de ligt and de jong have more experience and are further Aling in development
