Monterrey's title defense died prematurely: the Rayados tied Tigres 1-1 on aggregate in the Liga MX Clausura semifinal with no away goals scored, so Tigres move on thanks to their superior regular season record. 2020 CCL Qualifiers 1. Robinhood celebrates victory and their earned spot in the Concacaf League! | #FCCCC pic.twitter.com/kr2ZABfzgh— Concacaf (@Concacaf) May 19, 2019 For anyone keeping score at home, that's now twice that the Caribbean semi-pro champs have knocked off their professional counterparts to make the continental stage. As well, IIRC it's the first time that a Surinamese side have qualified for Concacaf in the CCL era. 2020 CCL Qualifiers 1. Cruz Azul [MEX3] 2. Club América [MEX1] 3. Club León [MEX2 or MEX4] 4. It is. CFU reps have come from, in no particular order: - Trinidad and Tobago - Jamaica - Martinique - Puerto Rico - Guyana - Haiti - Dominican Republic
Meanwhile, in Central America... Guatemala: Malacateco stunned Cobán Imperial, knocking them out in their own house to reach the Final. There, they will face Antigua for the last CL berth, while Comunicaciones are guaranteed in as the best runner-up in the full-year table. El Salvador: And now for something slightly different, a final without one of Santa Tecla or Alianza the latter will face Águila for the Clausura title and the country's highest seed in the CL. Honduras: The final will be a rematch of the clásico capitalino that we got in the Apertura. Olimpia are ahead in the full-year table, but need the Clausura title if they want the top seed. Meanwhile, with all eventual champs and runners-up accounted for, Honduras' final berth should fall down the full-year table to Marathón. Nicaragua: Another rematch from the Apertura final in this tournament, with Managua FC set to face Real Estelí. Here, though, Managua has the Apertura belt and top spot in the full-year table, so the seeds are set. To keep us on the same page, we're just missing the following qualifiers: CCL - Everyone from the US and Canada CL - 2 teams from Panama, 1 from Guatemala and 1 from Canada 2020 CCL Qualifiers 1. Can someone give me a summary of what was said in this clip?
Palomo was pressing Montagliani on if Concacaf sees it as an issue that CCL finals tend to be all-Mexican, even in light of Mexico's superior development and resources. Montagliani acknowledged that it was generally (mind you, not always) the case in the past, but that the new format has been in place for only two years - one of which did not produce an all-Mexican final - and ostensibly provides more opportunities for non-Mexican sides to advance in the tournament. --- Any opinion on what to take from the new format is premature, a discussion probably best left for 2022; it's just curious that the last 2 CCL draws gave us balanced brackets, and we have yet to see one with > 2 Mexican sides on the same half of the bracket, which would increase the possibility of a non-Mexican side reaching the Final.

Concacaf published an update on the Concacaf League with their list of qualifiers, so let's check our work... 18/18! The one thing I did get wrong was completely sleeping on San Carlos, who finished above Herediano in the full-year table - thus entering the Concacaf League as the highest seed among Costa Rican sides. 2020 CCL Qualifiers 1. Tigres took the Clausura title to add to their impressive domestic collection over the last decade...and seeing what Concacaf did with SKC this season, we have to presume that they'll stick to their guns and condemn León to the lower pot for the next CCL draw based on the five-year coefficient for their seed. 2020 CCL Qualifiers 1. Why is participation limited to those three teams and not everyone? It looks like Cavalry FC is currently top of the table in the Canadian Premier League.
Because the CSA are idiots. Those 3 are the founding members of CPL (a year ahead of the other 4). In their stupidity, they imposed that idiotic idea on the league.
Out in Panama, la Chorrera "roommates" San Francisco and Independiente brought an impressive crowd to the Rommel Fernández in Panama City, and the Final more than made it up to them: two goals in the last five minutes of injury time, before Independiente claimed their second-ever league title on penalties. 2020 CCL Qualifiers 1. To wit: when Forge host Valour on June 15, they'll just need one point to guarantee CL qualification.
I guess as a small consolation...Forge is truly playing almost as good as Cavalry are and are only 2 points behind them so far. Right now, it's Cavalry & Forge followed by Valour....then the rest
So I have to ask, now that things are clearer: assuming Forge get the job done, @Robert Borden what do you think is the easiest path to the CCL? Going through 3 MLS teams in the Voyageurs' Cup, or 3 Guatemalan/Honduran sides in the CL? Nevertheless, even if they eventually fall against Olimpia, the experience gained will be invaluable, ensuring that Canadians are familiar with hostile road conditions early on in their career and thus avoiding deer-in-the-headlights performances like in 2012 - the same way that several Central American and Caribbean sides playing CCL matches in Mexico has contributed to national teams all over the region losing their fear of playing there.
