Too bad they can't play the worst team in the league every week.

the longer jeff mallett continues with the same inane, head-in-the-sand rhetoric , the more you are absolutely right- i am giving him until next week

At least we took max points off them. You either take max points off the weaker teams or you are one. We took 3 so that is good. At this point I don't mind draws against top teams like LAFC & Seattle as it was good to see our team defence gel and mostly shut them down but against anyone around or below us we need 3.

Climbing out of the hole we dug ourselves into one game at a time. We also need max points off Portland next week.

Bayern Munich announced today that both wingers- ribery and robben- are leaving in june- it leaves more opportunities for alphonso come the 2019-2020 season

Will be interesting to see what happens with Davies. I was watching Bayern’s match with Nurnberg last week. It was an important match for the league title and Davies came on at 70’ for injured James Rodriguez. I was surprised at how much Davies looked out of his element (to me). He just looked tentative and uncomfortable compared to the other Bayern players. Worse, he gave up a PK at 90’ with the score tied 1-1. Fortunately, the PK hit the post. I can’t imagine how much Alphonso had to be sweating that in such an important game. Anyway, just looking at this short outing, seems Davies has a ways to go to be considered a replacement for Ribery and Robben.

Considering how brutal the Rapids are, I would expect them to get 3 points, even on the road.

The central defence, keeping, and the team defensive shape when the opponent controls possession has been very strong so it makes the Caps a tough opponent to break down, and that's the one significant thing I'm liking right now. In this league, that keeps you in the mix.

well, i had given owner, jeff mallett, the benefit of the doubt and was hoping for concrete changes, respectful/meaningful/face-to-face communication with the aggrieved people and transparency

instead at the meeting with the Southsiders, he maintained that women from the 2008 program should contact rachel lewis as the Club would NOT be contacting them

as we all know, lewis was 1 of the executives that the women had concerns about ... and mallett considers her the person these women are to contact- GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!!!! he just doent want to get it and i now know he is in the same bed of denial, minimize, flap gums, lie and arrogance as the other owners led by the Shadow, greg kerfoot

he also stated that the Club will not contact the women

this will only get worse for the Caps and i will add my presence to the walk-out on friday-- STs for 2020 will not happen- my 40 year membership will end - such a sadness, especially on the 40 year anniversary of a different whitecap club in 1979

isnt it about time that greg kerfoot's photo is posted? why should he get special privilege of not being identified like the other owners, nash, cuczo and mallett have been ?

A hard fought 1-0 win over Portland. Max with a huge night, glad to see him get the clean sheet. 3 points more and we are up to 12 in 11 games now. Slowly digging our way out of the basement.

Of concern is we have the fewest goals for in the west (11, but so is Atlanta). Good news is we are tied for 5th in fewest allowed.

An enjoyable game that unfortunately has to be part of a walkout. The attendance was also brutal. Friday, nice weather, etc is not an excuse. They would draw thousands more for a portland match.

Not everyone is aware, or cares, about the women's scandal and the ownerships embarassing way of handling this,; but the performance and the general rot over the organization is all coming together to mess with attendance numbers.

That is what will get the invisible man's attention.

its a shame because i believe in MDS and his staff and where there are and want to take the players- if he is able to get 2 significant players (striker and most important, a #10 AMF and leader), then this can be a team that be a playoff contender and do some damage

hopefully the invisible man, aka The Shadow, is getting some psychological /counseling help for his phobias, along with understanding from his noted companion- if not, he should have the wisdom and care for the Caps to sell and bring a proper new majority owner- visible, communicative, community-driven and ambitious to win trophies

    THE WOODEN SPOON AWARD:

i award this to myself for missing the internet post on the 2nd page- re: jack reddy commenting that he had indeed warned Coastal Surrey about BB in 2011, confirming what Ciara McCormack had stated

    this is going to hurt

    The problem brewing is this:

1 - Caps said they didnt know he was coaching teen girls after leaving their team. Ciara has now given email proof that she emailed all FO people and the invisible man several years later about it.

2 - Coastal FC said they didn't know about his Caps issues. Well, Mr Reddy has come forward on that one.

So, this is where the storm is converging as far as any liabilities for cover ups or turning the other way.

the Cap universe is slowly unfolding - i wonder if a police investigation is underway

the dilemma for me- and i suppose many other supporters- is that we like what we see developing under MDS and waiting for july new signings to fill in some gaps in order to go to the next level of being a serious playoff team

i dont want to support the owners and the FO- both are deplorable and lack integrity and transparency

i do want to support the team under MDS who has integrity and transparency

    QUITE THE DILEMMA!

That it is. I already paid for my seasons tix, so I don't have a huge choice to make as to whether to buy tickets or not. next year I may very well dump them and go to just a few games. I have a hard time giving this money to Kerfoot and the way he runs this operation. I have to see how this unfolds, if he continues to hoarde the Davies money and fold it into their books as "development", if they break and deal with the women's issue or they continue to hide and stonewall.

MLS has to do do something- watching attendance numbers dropping in many markets, Garber and the rest of the owners need to make some additional changes :
    a. continuing to address teams that have SSS out of the DT core and help ownerships and cities build/find stadia DT where the attendances can grow and attract the millennials- columbus and now chicago are solving that and i am guessing that MLS will aid in those endeavors- wouldnt surprise me to see NER, dallas and colorado be given incentives- i know they are leaning on the ownership in montreal to improve the quality of Saputo stadium

    b. MLS has stated that they are looking at tripling the allotted salary budgets to the $12-13 mill range- they should get that done by 2020

    c. allow teams to have bigger rosters with much better quality players from 11-20- when the best players leave for international competitions and/or injuries, the quality substantially drops-off

    d. encourage/lean-on ownership that takes minimal interest in their MLS team- colorado and vancouver come to mind, but there are others- to consider selling to a more interested-involved-ambitious owner(s)

according to JJ Adams- a good soccer and Cap writer- the owners met last week with the group of women who have come forth with grievances from 2008-2012

hence- no 35th minute walk-out at saturday's game

nothing like lost money/lagging attendance over the past 4-5 games to get the owners agreement to meet- i figure it cost the Caps in the range of $700 K to 800 K as attendance was down about 20 000- thats money that could have been spent in July's transfer/buying window

i wonder when we get news about what transpired from the meeting

I think the only way things are going to change for Caps fans is to directly appeal to Garber. He is the only one who could bring any sort of leverage to bear on your absentee ownership and hold them accountable. It worked for TFC in 2012...

We are dangerously close to the market bottoming out and it not being viable or possible for him to find another owner. They may lose half or more of their season tickets, that is devastating. Its ready to fall off a cliff. This market gave and gave and waited and waited. Its all built up and now the avalanche is about to happen.

Its now or never to try to get him out.. Another year of this and the club may not survive and be put down like Chivas. They could literally have crowds on weekend MLS games at 12,000.

problem is , most people in the market are still going after BObby and Rachel. Still not a lot of Kerfoot talk, and the media still won't rip him other than Paul Chapman (this man knows the game). But, hey, they will come around.

i am beginning to wonder just how disappointed MLS HQ would be if the Whitecap franchise had to be moved- the league/Don G offered to help the owners 2 years ago to pick up caandian MF atiba hutchinsons's transfer fee in the millions, but the owners didnt want to pay his salary, probably in the $2-3 mill range- he is/was a very talented MF in Turkey and could command that type of wage- the offer was TURNED DOWN!!

its all to do with the owners uwillingness to pay extra wages (beyond the MLS pots) out of their own pockets and its why we have suffered with the goal of mediocrity which was ok in MLS 2.0- now its MLS 3.0 where more owners are willing to pay salaries far beyond the MLS caps in order to be competitive and be an elite team

without their own stadium and without an ownership group willing to invest their own money in order to take the Club into the goal of being ambitious and wanting to capture the imagination of the city area-, the Vancouver market for MLS soccer is waning

maybe MLS HQ sare beginning to not see any future in vancouver and another USA city willing to pay the costs and build a new SSS would be very appealing - and our group of owners might make more money in selling

in Columbus it worked- MLS allowed the moving of the franchise to austin,, but it ignited the drive to keep the team in columbus with new, locally-involved, wealthy owners who will also build a new stadium; and chicago is becoming much more active in saving their franchise and i believe that MLS HQ/Don G are involved in that as well

not sure there are any local and wealthy people willing to buy and invest in the Caps- surely their own SSS would have to be part of their ambition- the cost to the new owner(s) would be in the $400 mill range (buy the Club and build a new 25 000 SSS (maybe share it with the Lions)-- IMO, the Vanouver and area is a great soccer market

but i can guess that the MLS HQ and Don G will be applying pressure on the Caps owners -- the folly can not continue IMO- we will know by 2021-2022

maybe our soccer destiny is in USL or CPL in a new, less-costly stadium out in the suburbs, such as surrey- maybe the LIons would be part of that- BC Place Stadium doesnt create the revenues that professional sports teams need

just saying-- the owners are doing everything right in order to destroy this MLS franchise

He wouldn't lose sleep over Vancouver who paid $35M to get in while there's a line up of investors willing to pay a minimum of $200M + build a world class stadium

He also promised "MLS Canadian offices". This was clearly a PR move as I haven't heard Montreal or TFC ever mentioning that the league would help with the transfer fees of a Canadian International, otherwise, why hasn't TFC went after Cavallini who's on record saying that he'd only play for TFC if he choose MLS on day?

Don't underestimate the challenge of having all your revenues in Canadian dollars while paying wages in US dollars. Montreal ownership has not made any profit since joining MLS in 2011, pretty sure it's the same for Vancouver.

TFC can afford it better due to the revenues from the Raptors and Maple Leafs. Their ownership structure makes it much more viable and realistic for them to keep up in MLS 3.0.

Montreal seems to rely on Bologna in Serie A (owned by Saputo) to get good players to Montreal. Might help them on the pitch but it doesn't change the financial difficulties. Vancouver not having any of the above puts them in a really tough spot

They are unlikely to ever get the city to green light a waterfront stadium. Also, there's no way they can compete against the likes of Miami or LAFC or TFC. I don't think the group are willing to spend that kind of money unless they sellout BC Place, which isn't happening, didn't happen during their Champions League run and when they had Davies... why would you expect them to spend like crazy now? Not happening

Also, there's CPL planning Metro Vancouver teams. Rumors has it that Burnaby, Surrey and Kelowna are considered. That's extra pressure.

I doubt that outside of Toronto, the league cares about Canada. I'm from Montreal initially and I saw Garber condescending attitude in Montreal towards the fans, the city officials and Quebec politicians while going back on his word to hold an MLS All-Star game in Montreal the year it was against Real Madrid.

Doubtful that he'd care about Vancouver or Montreal being in danger. Saputo is somewhat fine now but he voiced that he can't keep losing money in MLS the way he has so far and gave himself 5 years to break even...as of last year. You won't be seeing another Drogba in Montreal

Fantastic market but I don't think they can keep up with the rest in MLS 3.0. They will be a lower tier team in the foreseeable future...which will be testing fans allegiance... look at what happened in the NBA and that's why I laugh off reports talking NBA in Montreal

He will do like Gary Bettman and wait out Vancouver not being able to continue or wanting out.

Circle 2029 when the CPL media deal is up. This will be their window to pitch something to the MLS sides as the league will have hit 2.0 after the 2026 World Cup.

    What sells more?
    1. Being a MLS lower tier team missing the playoffs regularly and not winning the Voyageurs Cup?
    2. Becoming the "Barca-RM-AM" of CPL and qualifying to continental competition via the league while having a shot a building a dynasty?
