Might as well get the new season thread started.

So Biesla decides to quit after 2 days, with the chance of working for the other biancoceleste of Argentina. Definitely a slap in the face to the organisation. However I didn't get the sense he would ever be part of what it means to be Laziali. Plus his track record is quite mediocre. He did ok with Bilbao. Internationally his Argentina side of 2002 was loaded with talent and they got bounced in the group stages of the WC.

I would turn to Inzaghi and give him a chance at this point. He knows the youngsters from the primavera better than anyone, we will need players like that to be integrated to abide with FIGC's rules. Prandelli was rumored earlier in the process as well, I would be ok with that as well. We must remember that Lotito is still paying Pioli and we know how tight his wallet is.

Nothing we can do now, but this whole fiasco has delayed our summer plans. This is another reason to stick with Inzaghi and keep the ship afloat.

Looks like Candreva is being sold to Napoli, for about 25M, which is a little more than I expected. Candreva was a very good player for us but if we are to move up and possibly get back into CL we need to make moves like this and reinvest wisely.

Really boring match mostly played out in midfield. Most of the chances came from set pieces. Our defence is looking a lot more solid with De Vrij and Bastos. Marchetti made some good saves. Keita came on and made a difference. Our foewards need to do more. At least our defence is looking a lot better than last season.

    Lazio 3-0 Pescara FT.

Great result. Other than giving away that penalty we looked solid defensively. We created a lot of chances but unfortunately could not put any of them away until Milinkovic-Savic scored. Parolo, Djordjevic and Immobile all shoudl have scored long before that. We dominated the game. Cataldi played well in front of the defence and he has some great deliveries for set plays.

He has been really good so far. Really strong and good pace. Good tackling. He has settled extremely quickly to the League and is forming a good partnership with De Vrij.

He only has played one game this season. Bastos and De Vrij are the first choice defenders. He played well in the Atalanta game but that was it.

After the loss at Milan we got back to winning ways against Empoli. Got lucky a few times when they hit the woordwork a couple of times. A good morale boosting win but Biglia again got injured. It is getting really annoying with how many matches he misses especially when he is one of our best players.

Maybe we can revive this forum a little.

Pretty good season thus far. We've been out of sorts vs the "big" teams but we have taken most of the necessary points against everyone else.

Biglia has played like a captain this year, his play has been excellent especially defensively. Parolo has been excellent again after a bit of a down season last season, I wonder how much longer he can play like this at his age.

Perhaps the biggest difference is having De Vrij back. Even Hoedt looks semi competent next to him.

Up front while Anderson, Keita and Immobile have shown flashes of brilliance, their finishing has cost us some games. Still the chances that are being created is encouraging.

We got Roma next week in a Coppa Italia derby, a win in the derby (it's been too long) can really propel us into Europe and a strong finish.

Our form against the big teams has been abysmal. We have beaten Fiorentina in the League and Internazionale in the Coppa Italia and that is it. Our mentiality is the issue. You can not play against the big teams as if you are playing a small team. You got to be more cynical and organised.

Defensively last season we were awful. We have improved a lot in that department althogh I think Bastos should partnet De Vrij. Not convinced by Hoedt at all.

Immbile has been great as well. His goals and work ethic are big factors. He looks like he has a point to prove and that kind of attitude is what the team needs. Keita has one year left on his contract. He should be sold in the summer. I can not see him staying on.

De Vrij and Bastos should be the CB partnership think they compliment each other well. Hoedt does possess good distribution skills but he simply doesn't have the composure De Vrij possesses. Hoedt however is still lost defensively too often he gets on the wrong side of defenders and hesitates at crucial moments (e,g, Suso's equalizer).

The derby is today! It's been too long since we've beaten them. They're in good form with Nainngolan and Dzeko in ridiculous form. Still it's the derby and I expect our front 3 to really trouble their backline.

Looks like Inzaghi is opting with the 3-5-2.

    Strakosha
    Wally-DV-Bastos
    Lukaku-SMS-Biglia-Parolo-Basta
    Immobile-FA

Doing everything to not concede is paramount here. Even at 0-0 we will have the advantage in the 2nd leg. Perhaps Roma will be looking ahead to Napoli and Lyon coming up.

    2-0 FT!

What a performance. Our best game of the season!

Inzaghi got the lineup spot on and everyone delivered and knew their role.

A good performance. Bastos, Milinkovic-Savic were great. We used the pace in our team well and counter attacking Roma. Defensively, we looked solid. They did not have hardly any chances. The referee let a lot of things go, which suited us because our team is very physical with a lot of tall, strong players. We out-muscled them. Keita coming off the bench was a smart move from Inzaghi. He created the second goal by himself.

I hope the team have turned the corner in these kinds of high pressure matches. A big confidence booster for sure. A goal for us in the second match will kill the tie off I think.

Why Hoedt is ahead of Bastos in the pecking order is beyond me. The only thing Hoedt has over Bastos is that he speaks Dutch, well that and his long ball distribution.

Agreed the ref definitely helped when we have physical players like Bastos, Wallace, Parolo and SMS.

Bologna, Torino, Cagliari and Sassuolo coming up. We'll be favored in every match, hopefully we can turn this into at least 9 points. Hopefully by then we will be in striking defense of Napoli when we host them at the Olimpico.

I do not know. Bastos was injured and then Hoedt had a run in the team. Bastos is the better defender though. Way less clumsy and a better tackler.

Those matches are all winnable and we have to if we want to keep ourselves in the European places. We are behind Atalanta by a point and we have both Milanese clubs right behind us. We got no margin for error.

Two wins against Bologna and Torino. The match against Bologna was nothing to write about really. We did the bare minimum to get past them. Was not a good performance but I think we were still getting over the win against Roma in midweek.

On the other hand we dominated Torino. Our finishing is terrible against teams that just want to clam up and defend. Immobile and Parolo should have easily scored and we also let Torino back in the back with their first shot on goal. Dumb. thankfully Keita popped up with a moment of magic and Anderson wrapped it up. We got to improve our finishing and our mentality.

Great performance for a 3-1 win against Roma.

Our tactics were spot on and we won even with injury problems and terrible referee decisions going against us. Keita was brilliant and should start every game. He really stretched the Roma defence and was always an outlet for us. The defence was solid and Wallace was extremely unlucky on the penalty call. That was a blatant dive. Both referees missed it. Unbelievable. Not suprising Roma get more penalties than anyone else in a season, even more than Barcelona this season and they have the nerve to complain about decisions. Digusting. We should have got a penalty onthe foul on Lukaku but got nothing. Milinkovic-Savic was again excellent. Really strong and pushing the team forward when in possession. We should have won much more comfortably if it not for the referee and it was our best derby performance in a long time. We just need to keep winning to keep up momentum as we have the automatic Europa League spot but only three points in front of Atalanta. Milan and Internazionale are gone now.

Well a Coppa Italia win to fire this thread back up!

Good performance against a very in form Atalanta side who beat us at the Olimpico a mere 10 days ago. SMS was the difference, maybe Inzaghi didn't want to risk him coming off injury but he was absolutely the difference in the final 15 minutes. It's amazing how much we've missed him that past few weeks. Correa was excellent as well his goal was pure class and the perfect type of goal to clinch a trophy. Though I can't condone his arm bar on Papu, it was Ramosesque.

The team showed plenty of guts to win this Cup, back to back wins at the San Siro. Including beating Inter in a shootout after conceding a penalty with the last kick of the ball in ET. SMS conceded that penalty, we won the ensuing shootout and SMS was the hero today.

Off to the Europa, much needed for this club, a mediocre season turns into a successful one.

    Non mollare mai!
