You may have not have intended to speak literally, but I do not think Kraft sees any cash flows from expansion. His share of the growing MLS pie is certainly on his balance sheet. But hey it's MLS, so I'm not going to claim to know exactly how it works!
35 year old... Darren Fletcher having been released by Stoke #SCFC has drawn interest from #Hearts #Jambos and New England Revolution of the #MLS— Mick Weston (@ElitePlayerRep) May 2, 2019
Just as long as they don't spend any TAM/GAM money or a DP slot on him, he'd be a good addition. Certainly better than Empty Roster Spot #3.
I'm fairly certain that the other owners do receive a check each time an expansion fee gets paid to the league.
Well, it's complicated, since they get revenue as part of their SUM share. Still, in the grand scheme of things, splitting the pie into smaller pieces is the downside to whatever money they get from expansion fees.
My French is admittedly rusty, but I believe this article states that Paul-Jose Mpoku has asked to leave Standard Liege. https://www.walfoot.be/fra/news/lis/2019-04-26/mehdi-carcela-et-paul-jose-mpoku-ont-demande-a-partir Another article from Belgium indicating that Mpoku is getting close to a departure, and it specifically mentions MLS: https://www.sudinfo.be/id115626/art...epart-du-standard-il-y-des-offres-qui-sont-la Mpoku and Friedel were briefly together at Spurs in the Summer of 2011.
To add on to the previous post, this came from Sam Stejskel this week... News that didn’t make the piece: Friedel told me he thinks it’s a “50-50” shot NE get their DP out of his Euro club before primary transfer window closes on May 7. He says the player is coming. Just a question of if it’s now or in secondary window in July. https://t.co/T2NeFM5lDC— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) May 1, 2019 He’s characterized it to me as someone who can boost the attack and help control the tempo. Never said specific position. Sounds like a midfielder.— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) May 1, 2019 To clarify, Friedel said that the player's European club is still playing for something (league title, Euro place, relegation... he wouldn't say). As such, his team doesn't want to let him go until they're locked in. Might happen before May 7. Might not. Not really up to NE. https://t.co/hBdHw18spP— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) May 1, 2019 So, Mpoku plays for Standard Liege, who is currently involved the "Championship Round" of the Belgian Pro League. Basically, you play a 30-game regular season, and at the end of the season, the top six teams play a 10-game round robin to crown a champion and runner-up, both of whom get a spot in the Champions League. Liege lost to Anderlecht this morning. Mpoku didn't play. If Club Brugge beats Gent this afternoon, Liege would be eliminated from finishing in a Champions League position, thus possibly freeing Mpoku to join the Revs prior to the May 7th deadline.
FT: Club Brugge 1-0 Gent If I'm right, Standard Liege is no longer in contention for a spot in next season's Champions League. They have a few matches left to play, but their season is effectively over. If the 2nd DP is M'Poku, the path to bringing him to MLS before the deadline on Tuesday has seemingly been cleared.
Let's here assume it is M'Poku.....how to characterize what he offers? Clearly pegged as "promising" when young, now by age 27-28 he is a twice injured solid-enough journeyman. That suggests he is more talented than most Brad has brought in, and has enough flaws and question marks that he is desperate enough to be brought in by Brad...... If it is him, I wish the best for himself and the Revs... but I am deeply sceptical there will be any sustained improvement in how the team plays.
Looks decent. Though at this point, one wonders who many DP's we would need to get some momentum. Or whether it doesn't start with a new coach.
As possible as this seems I just don’t see it happening by Tuesday. Even if it does one has to wonder how much impact it can have on this roster.
I can't believe I'm quoting Ian Dury and the Blockheaads for the second time in a week, but this probably sums up the timing of our newest acquisition: Yes yes Dear dear Perhaps next year Or maybe even never And that's from the song "Reasons to be Cheerful (part 3)," which ironically enough, there is hardly any reason whatsoever to be cheerful with this team right now.
About 36 or so hours until the window closes, what are the chances the Revs move Fagundez or Pennilla to get a CB? Both seemed to be on the outs with Brad and if the new DP is a wing type player which is being suggested, these two could be dropping further down the depth chart.
I... I don't understand. Not even a little bit. News: #NERevs turned down money and cap relief when they said no to an offer from FC Cincinnati for Gabriel Somi. #MLS FULL STORY HERE on @ProSoccerUSAcom https://t.co/itcEXZ05ph— Julian Cardillo (@JulianCardillo) May 6, 2019
How does picking up a piece of lint off the Standard LIege bench in any way measurably improve this steaming pile of poop that currently soils the atmosphere at Gillette Stadium?
Can someone please come up with verifiable and plausible reasons why they wouldn't ship Somi? At this point it just seems like Burns/Friedel intend to keep him from playing out of total spite.
If I could get into their heads, I imagine they might come up with reasons like the below. 1. They would rather pay full price for a player they won't use than partial price for a player they can't use. 2. They are afraid he might perform well for another team exposing their incompetence at player selection and management. 3. They are "competing" with FCC for a playoff spot and do not wish to strengthen an opponent. 4. They feel they have to show the rest of the roster that even sucking and not being deemed useful is insufficient to escape the career hell in which they find themselves. It motivates the rest of the players. 5. They want teams and agents to know what badass negotiators they are.
If true, 1, 2, and 4 are reasons why players shouldn’t sign with this team; 3 is delusional. Item 5 - I think most teams and agents have them pegged, they don’t need to worry. May 7 has arrived...
Only thing I can think of is that the Revs would have lost money on the trade or possibly Cinncy wanted the Revs to pay some of the salary
The answer is obvious. This would leave the Revs with another empty roster slot, and Burns can't even fill the ones he has now.
