Only saw the end of the game but Higginbottom was lavishing praise on his performance in the game as a whole. I think he definitely needs to go to the u21 Euros as another midfield option.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/weaint...ns-derby-county-supporters-player-of-the-year Delighted for fikayo tomori. Whilst hes decent on the ball ive always felt he was a bit error prone to be a top class defender. Still, were short in depth in that area so good luck to him. Bet canada has an eye on him for their home world cup effort, though i think he rejected them in 2016
Tomori's been excellent since he switched. I don't think he's particularly any more error prone than any other 21 year old central defender. Particularly given this is his first season in professional football playing there (his previous loans he's largely played right back). I've always been impressed with his raw defensive ability. I think he's by far and away the biggest contender to make the England squad out the current crop of centre backs. I'd expect he'll do it next season if he gets a decent loan.
I think a Tuanzebe and Tomori partnership could be very solid. The one area that worries me going into the Euros is defensive midfield. Skipp is unlikely to be called up, so it looks like being between Choudhury and Dowell.
Reece james reece james!! Sigh...no doubt boothroyd will miss that trick. Sad that were going into it still not knowing our best team or system
Just to level with you... I haven't seen Reece James play enough to comment. Is he playing as a DM now?
I just can’t see Boothroyd calling up anyone new into the fold for the Euro’s that hasn’t already been part of this set up for the last year unfortunately unless hit with injuries, then forced into it. I know CHO got called up last time but he was probably forced into it due to getting more appearances for Chelsea and I bet that was seen as an exception. Reece James I would call up myself, not only due to merit but because he can play in two positions which is good for tournament football. If I was a betting man then players like James, Tuanzebe, Roberts, Bowen etc won’t get a look in unless injuries occur.
You’re probably right on Tuanzebe, James etc. Surely, he’ll find a way of fitting in CHO and recalling Mount though (presuming they’re fully available.)
I'd think if anyone not in the last squad makes it, it'll be Maitland-Niles who can count himself very unlucky considering he's playing regularly for Arsenal, which is a higher standard than anyone else in the squad.
Apparently Dael Fry has torn his hamstring so very unlikely he will be fit for the Euro’s. Shame for the lad, hope for a speedy recovery.
Josh Onomah has made a surprise early return from injury and started today for Sheffield Wednesday. Good chance he'll end up making the final squad now you suspect.
Harvey Barnes finally got his first goal for Leicester last weekend. Took him a while. Wouldn't be surprised to see Gray leave in the summer and Barnes become the better player in the long run. Gray has really gone nowhere in the last couple of seasons.
With Dael Fry most probably out of the Euro’s, I wouldn’t be disappointed to see Ben Godfrey take his place.
I’m curious to find out that when the Squads for the Euro’s are announced, what ranking were likely to be in for minutes played in the top flight by our players compared to other Nations in the finals? Will be interesting to see if we have improved over the last few years and I would suspect we have significantly. I mean obviously the count only includes those in the Squad so players like CHO, Rashford, Chilwell, Alli, TAA, Sancho, Gomez won’t be included but when we will probably have the likes of AWB, Maddison, Barnes, AMN, Calvert-Lewin, Sessegnon, Foden of the top of my head, it should read pretty good. I think Germany will probably be way out in front but I’m sure our count will have improved.
Godfrey and Tuanzebe must be in with a shout. Choudhury also had a decent game today as a DM. Having him in there would add a bit of steel to our midfield and allow Maddison and others a bit more freedom.
How refreshing to see Angus Gunn getting a proper run in the team by the way. Speaking of Leicester, Maddison and Barnes have also been impressive of late.
Trying to come up with what might be our best XI. Feel free to rate or slate.. Gunn AWB Tuanzebe Tomori Sessegnon Choudhury (Any two of Foden/Maddison/Mount) Nelson Abraham/DCL Barnes
I think I'd rather jay da silva who is natural left back over sessognon but other than that I would agree with your line up
Good point. Fulham have been playing Sessegnon as a right forward recently. Pretty hard to choose between Gunn and Henderson. Would you prefer DCL or Abraham? I think Barnes and Nelson are better options than Gray or Lookman, but others may think otherwise.
I think DCL/Abraham is a 50-50, I think I'd prefer Abraham as he has better movement and is a more natural goalscorer with service, but DCL has better linkup and holdup play. I wouldn't imagine many goals from Nelson and Barnes so Abraham, just. However they are interchangeable for me.
