So results won't save GCZ they are finishing last. Though in Swiss football as we know something always comes up to save clubs. I don't see anything saving GCZ is this the first time in their history that they will be leaving the top flight? Sad but maybe this is what they need to re-build.
I do not see any way for GCZ to stay up. Unless Lugano gets relegated for financial reasons, but the ASF seems to want a team in Ticino, so they have often gotten a pass. I do not see them staying down as long as Servette has, but I think it will take a few years.
27 April Luzern - Thun 3-1 Xamax - GCZ 1-1 28 April YB - Lugano 2-2 FCSG - Basel 0-3 FCZ - Sion 1-0 YB - 79 Basel 59 Thun 40 Luzern 40 Lugano 38 Sion 37 FCZ 37 FCSG 36 Xamax 33 GCZ 24
4 May Basel - FCZ 3-0 GCZ - FCSG 0-1 5 Mary Lugano - Luzern 1-0 Sion - YB 0-4 Thun - Xamax 0-2 YB 82 Basel 62 Lugano 41 Thun 40 Luzern 40 FCSG 39 Sion 37 FCZ 37 Xamax 36 GCZ 24 So GCZ is relegated, and there are a couple of teams that could go into the playoffs. Xamax has played very well, and their match this week is vs FCZ. The issue is that both Nuzzolo and Djuric will miss their match due to yellow card accumulation. It is possible that both GCZ and FCZ could be relegated!

Murat Yakin is going "on vacation" for the remainder of the season. Sébastien Bichard, Christian Zermatten and Christian Constantin will manage the team for the remainder of the season.
11 May Thun - Lugano 1-0 Xamax - FCZ 1-2 Xamax had a 1-0 advantage only to lose. 12 May YB - Basel 3-1 Luzern - GCZ Abandoned - This match was 4-0 to Luzern when GCZ fans invaded the pitch and forced the match to be abandoned. FCSG - Sion 2-1 YB 85 Basel 62 Thun 43 FCSG 42 Lugano 41 Luzern 40* FCZ 40 Sion 37 Xamax 36 GCZ 24* Very interesting last three weeks, at least at the bottom.
Leading goalscorers: 21 - Guillaume Hoarau - YB 15 - Dejan Sorgic - Thun 14 - Raphael Nuzzolo - Xamax 14 - Jean-Pierre Nsame - YB 13 - Albian Ajeti - Basel 13 - Carlinhos Junior - Lugano 13 - Rickey van Wolfswinkel - Basel Leading assists: 14 - Raphael Nuzzolo - Xamx 11 - Miralem Sulejmani - YB 10 - Alexander Gerndt - Lugano Attendance: YB (16) 25,629 Basel (16) 24,672 FCSG (17) 12,618 FCZ (16) 10,697 Luzern (16) 9,279 Sion (16) 9,088 GCZ (17) 5,965 Xamax (17) 5,950 Thun (17) 5,735 Lugano (16) 3,381
15 May Basel - Luzern Sion - Xamax Huge match for the 9th place spot FCZ - Thun 16 YB - GCZ Lugano - FCSG
15 May Basel - Luzern 3-2 Sion - Xamax - 1-0 Goal in the 94' by Toma saves Sion from the playoff. FCZ - Thun 3-0 16 May YB - GCZ 6-1 GCZ is officially in the BCL next season. Lugano - FCSG 1-0 YB 88 Basel 65 Lugano 44 Thun 43 FCZ 43 FCSG 42 Sion 40 Luzern 40 Xamax 36 GCZ 24
22 May Luzern - FCZ FCSG - YB Thun - Basel GCZ - Sion Xamax - Lugnao So the most interesting match will be the GCZ-Sion match will have only 100 people in the stands. This is a "closed" match for the behavior of the GCZ fans at Luzern a few weeks ago. That match has now been awarded as a 4-0 win for Luzern. If Sion were to lose, and Xamax win, they would close to within 1 point of each other. Oddly enough, there are 6 teams that could end up in 3rd place, and 4 teams that could end up in 9th place.
22 May Luzern - FCZ 3-0 FCSG - YB 4-1 ??? Thun - Basel 1-2 GCZ - Sion 0-3 Xamax - Lugano 1-1 YB 88 - One more chance for 90 points. Basel 68 Lugano 45 +1 GD FCSG 45 -9 GD Thun 43 -2 GD Sion 43 -4 GD Luzern 43 -5 GD FCZ 43 -9 GD Xamax 37 GCZ 24 So YB and Basel in the Champions League sports. Lugano, FCSG, Thun, Sion, Luzern and FCZ could all end up in the Europa League 25 May YB - Luzern Basel - Xamax Lugano - GCZ Sion - Thun FCZ - FCSG So if I were to bet, I would say Lugano, and Thun look most likely to get three points out of those gunning for the EL.
Leading goalscorers: 23 - Guillaume Hoarau - YB 15 - Jean-Pierre Nsame - YB 15 - Dejan Sorgic - Thun 14 - Raphael Nuzzolo - Xamax 14 - Albian Ajeti - Basel Leading assists: 14 - Raphael Nuzzolo - Xamx 11 - Miralem Sulejmani - YB 11 - Roger Assale - YB 10 - Alexander Gerndt - Lugano Attendance: YB (17) 25,435 Basel (17) 24,434 FCSG (18) 12,692 FCZ (17) 10,581 Luzern (18) 9,364 Sion (17) 9,141 Xamax (18) 6,002 Thun (18) 5,639 GCZ (18) 5,639 Lugano (17) 3,483
25 May YB - Luzern 4-0 Basel - Xamax 4-1 Lugano - GCZ 3-3 Sion - Thun 0-1 FCZ - FCSG 1-1 So final standings are as such. YB -91 - CL Playoff round Basel 71 - CL - 2nd Q Round - League Path (They are the highest seeded team in this round) Lugano - 46 - EL Group Stages (thanks to Basel's victory over Thun in the Swiss Cup) Thun - 46 - 3rd Q Round - Main Path Luzern - 46 - 2rd Q Round - Main Path - Knowing their luck they will end up with Roma or Wolverhampton. FCSG - 46 FCZ - 44 Sion - 42 Xamax - 37 GCZ - 25 Lugano ha a +1 GD, Thun - 1, Luzern -5, FCSG -9.
Aarau crushes Xamax in the first round of the Barrage, 4-0. The return leg will be on Sunday, but Xamax will be without Nuzzolo who was sent off for allegedly spitting at an Aarau player, and they match will be at the Brugglifeld. It's not a 100% certainty, but it's 95% that Aarau will be coming back to the Super League. Congrats @Arrows !
The following teams received a license for the 2019-2020 season: License I - Can play in European competitions Young Boys Basel Luzern Lugano Sion St. Gallen Thun Grasshoppers Zurich License II - Can play in the Super League, but do not meet European competition standards Aarau Lausanne-Sport Xamax Servette Wil License III - Can play in the Challenge League only Chiasso Kriens Lausanne-Ouchy Schaffhausen Vaduz Winterthur Some interesting notes: - The SFL scaled back some measures for earning a license. 4 Promotion League clubs applied for a License III, and 3 of them received one: Lausanne-Ouchy, Yverdon-Sport, and Stade Nyonnais. Bellinzona was rejected, but did not appeal. - Schaffhausen was originally denied a license due to the death of their owner and chairman. The SFL had to agree to the ownership change and also to make sure that the books were in good standing before approving the license. The received a License III - Winterthur applied for a License II in the hopes of promotion to the Super League, but were rejected because the Schutzenwiese does not meet current RSL stadium requirements.
The unthinkable happened. Xamax defeated Aarau 4-0, then won 5-4 on penalties to stay up. If you can figure out Swiss football, let me know.
This loss hurts double for Aarau. They received special permission from the SFL to play in the Super League next year under the condition that voters would get to decide on if a new stadium would be built. Playing in the Super League would've gone a long way toward helping convince voters to allow a new stadium to be built. Now that they're not going up, this is the last season of that agreement that Aarau made with the SFL. If voters reject a new stadium this fall, the SFL has said that they will not grant a License III to Aarau to even play in the Challenge League. Today's loss was definitely salt in the wound for Aarau supporters.
I never thought Xamax would recover. I was prepared for Xamax, GCZ and LS all in the BCL. My fear is that if Aarau voters say no, Aarau becomes like Wohlen. That would be a shame. They have too much tradition and success for that. Sorry for the delay in responding, I have been away.
Gutted! That being said if Aarau could win 4-0 at Xamax why not the reverse...still shocking! That being said if anyone in the RSL had to do this I am glad that it is Xamax as I have always had a soft spot for them and wish them the best.
