That is so cute. Hmmmm? Liverpool -top of the EPL (which sucks, ot course, but still is the richest and most watched league in the world) and semi regular Champions League participant Or Chicago Fire, playing crap soccer in front of a few thousand fans and not EVER on tv? Playing for J. Klopp one of the best coaches in the world, from whom Lewandowski really learned his craft, and a terrifically charismatic guy Or Paunovic: NOT one of the best coaches at any level (except, maybe, youth football) and a guy who seems to be more than a bit of an asshole. Decisions, decisions!
Even so, would he want to come here at this point in his career? Also, will Hauptman/Joe/MLS pony up that kind of money, especially since Bastian, as much of a fan of his as I am, has not really panned out-on or off of the field? Of course, I hope the answer is yes.
Depends. He's making 11-12 million for Bayern Munch, it probably would take 15-20 million. Would he go for that? Who knows. Would Joe/MLS willing to pay that much? Who knows So yes, I also hope the answer is yes. Yeah, I know this is fantasyland, but what else do we have to talk about? Our owner SUCKS, our GM SUCKS, our coach SUCKS, our team SUCKS.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/04/17/paunovic-confident-gaitan-can-adapt-mls-time “He came after not playing a competitive game for four months, so we had to work on his fitness and integration of the team," This is the teams excuse for every single player brought in, maybe if you get the players before the season starts, give them a preseason this wouldn't happen.
Hilariously, Pauno, or "Old Serb" as he was known, hadn't played a competitive game of outdoor soccer in two years when he came to MLS, and basically hit the ground running in Philly. He ended up playing respectably in his short time in MLS, but he was a truly bizarre signing by Nowak at the time. So basically, this is all Peter Nowak's fault.
Ok, 25-30 million. I looked up his salary it said 225,000 euros a week which is something like 12 million. Maybe that was an old report.
Bastian , Niko , and Katai all live in streeterville and love it . To live the world class lifestyle of dining , shopping , convenience and view, they would be shelling out considerably more elsewhere. Liverpool doesn't come close and would be pricier regardless. This doesn't even touch the anonymity Chicago has to offer along with favorable tax codes of living in the US. Chicago is in fact one of the primo MLS destinations , we've just had a front office/ownership that has screwed up most of the interest .
I'd kind of wondered about where most of these guys are actually living, particularly the ones on DP salaries. But yeah, Basti, at least from his social media posts seems to really like the city. Helps to have players that can tolerate the cold.
Not sure what’s stupid about considering maximizing return for a player who’s contract is up at the end of the season -
