Spartan Stadium in San Jose had terrific sightlines, great acoustics, a tiny field, no lights in the bathrooms, lukewarm food (no matter if you were ordering hot or cold), and the consistent chance of getting rather large splinters in your keister if you sit during the match. AEG, and MLS, could not get out of there fast enough. Even when SJE won the SS when they were at Shaw, MLS pretty much said they would rather play the MLS Cup at Shaw than go back to Spartan. Fortunately for the league, SJE flamed out in the first round. Still love the place.
I still think, for watching the game itself, the Kingdome was a better stadium for the Seahawks than CLink is. Don't get me wrong, everything else about CLink is miles better than the 'Dome, but sitting in both and watching the game, I enjoyed the experience at the Kingdome more. (Kingdome sucked for baseball, or basketball, though)
Answer to the marginally interesting trivia question: Which city has the second largest Somali population in the United States? Columbus, Ohio.
I've actually had Somali food in Minneapolis. Can't wait to have some more in Columbus next season when I make a pilgrimage to Mapfre.
Miami is now saying 2022 for their new digs. Or at least not pushing 2021. If we get a Sac announcement soon, they could start digging pretty quick. Cincy has started. Not so in Columbus, Nashville, or Austin. Nashville has a temp place to play in 2020 so they are not up against a timeline like Austin is.
Unless you liked seeing the near touchline or the player taking the corner kick if you were sitting on the bench side.
Thanks! Quakes game, when scheduled in 2020 Standing offer for you for same deal here in San Jose. Crew in town August 3 this year.
No. It's a dump because it was built on a bare bones budget because it had to be built on a bare bones budget. Nothing wrong with that.
I enjoyed watching the game there when I visited. Dial down the fire and brimstone. You used to be one of the better posters here.
Oxford Dictionary definition of "dump" as a noun: "an unpleasant or dreary place." https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/dump Simply because a stadium is "bare bones" or unadorned does not make it unpleasant or dreary.
Colloquially, I don't think anyone misunderstood the reference to "dump" despite what Oxford says the denotative meaning is. But then most of the posters here minored in being intentionally obtuse in college. I can respect that.
I actually enjoy first 5 row, 2nd deck seats the most. Even more so if they're end zone or behind the goal ... as a former player of the foosball Americano type, I really enjoy seeing the whole "play" unfold and being able to get a "player eye" view of the action. You see SOOOO MUCH MORE of the game from this vantage point.
Obviously a different era, but in baseball, 11 of the 16 teams opened up brand-new stadiums within a span of 7 years. The Phillies and Indians had the first concrete parks dating back to the 19th century and the Cardinals and Browns opened up Sportsmans Park in 1904. The rest all opened new parks between 1909 and 1915, except for the Yankees who didn't build their place until 1923. Oh man! I remember that guy! All you had to do was mention Title IX and he'd go foaming at the mouth for literally days at a time! He was like the scene in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," where he is hiding behind the wall, but just can't resist responding to the tap-tap of Judge Doom's cane, even if it means certain death! Good times!
