Me! I said "here comes another 'yeah, we scored one...and now they're going to score three unanswered goals.'" It wasn't until the PK that I believed the Quakes might actually win.
That's exactly what went through my mind. I had so little confidence on our team that it might be better to be 0-0 than 1-5. Also, it was a relief that the PK didn't go in. I was nervous that we would blow the 3-0 lead. It feels so bad to feel so negative.
Looking at the standings, it appears that instead of being the worst of the worst, we are now the best of the worst !
If I was a betting person, I'd say yes. de Boer went into a championship team and has struggled. Yes, it's not the exact same team as Martino had, but they should be competitive, easily. Plenty of time for them to turn it around, but accounts aren't good about his approach. Outside of this forum, I haven't seen any negativity about Almeyda. Everyone knew he had quite the mountain to climb, so expectations are different.
too ealy to say who outlasts who, I’d still be shocked to see us finish ahead of ATL and I fully expect to get the Don G red carpet treatment one game next year, maybe when Rooney comes to town.
excellent! I know Rooney has scored at Avaya before, and I’ll always be hoping for a Quakes win, ever since that first MLS game against these guys in ‘96, but I missed both times MU came to town and Wayne of course is the all time top goal scorer for both England and MU, so yes sir that would be a thrill. Thanks Don, hope DC United make it out here next year (they’re not coming this year) ...all of a sudden the stakes got a little higher.
Don G. and I drank pregame at the LOBINA with some Timber Army members. Super nice guys who were passionate about supporting the Timbers, but, also appreciated being able to have friendly interaction with fans of the the opposing team. Some of them wore vests reminiscent of biker gangs, with all sorts of patches. They have special patches they earn for each different road trip they take, and for other occasions, kind of like boy scouts earning merit badges. Imo, it was an effective way of promoting a spirit of community and support for their team. They were also curious about the Ultras and the philosophy of their support for the Quakes, since it differed from their approach to supporting the Timbers.
Great article in The Athletic today about Rooney and his "driver." https://theathletic.com/914988/2019...rooney-and-the-man-who-drives-him-around-d-c/
