The lineup Tata put out vs Chile was strong in attack. Ill be interested to see how we fair against a fairly good attack. Even Chile is lacking power upfront currently. I really wanted to see Enner Valencia vs our backline so we could get a test.

Chile should give a sterner test. I dont think we win vs Chile if we play how we played in Orlando.

I wonder how much is aging versus no longer having Bielsa/Sampaoli at the helm. They were not as dynamic with the ball going forward as they had been under Sampaoli. I wonder what he could have done with Argentina if given sufficient time.

The only player that left is Adams and assume Mckennie is out due to ankle. Where is Pulisic in your line up? Berhalter really limited himself with this roster. This is the best I could come up with....

    --------------------Ramirez
    Arriola----------------------------Roldan?
    -----------Pulisic--------Lletget
    -------------------Bradley
    --Miazga----Brooks------Long-----Yedlin
    --------------------Horvath

GOALKEEPERS (3): Jesse Gonzalez (FC Dallas; 0/0), Ethan Horvath (Club Brugge/BEL; 3/0), Sean Johnson (New York City FC; 7/0)

DEFENDERS (8): John Brooks (Wolfsburg/GER; 37/3), Omar Gonzalez (Atlas/MEX; 48/3), Nick Lima (San Jose Earthquakes; 2/0), Aaron Long (New York Red Bulls; 5/0), Daniel Lovitz (Montreal Impact/CAN; 2/0), Matt Miazga (Reading/ENG; 11/1), Tim Ream (Fulham/ENG; 27/1), DeAndre Yedlin (Newcastle United/ENG; 58/0)

MIDFIELDERS (6): Michael Bradley (Toronto FC/CAN; 144/17), Sebastian Lletget (LA Galaxy; 8/2), Weston McKennie (Schalke/GER; 8/1), Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund/GER; 24/9), Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders FC; 8/0), Wil Trapp (Columbus Crew SC; 14/0)

FORWARDS (6): Paul Arriola (D.C. United; 20/3), Corey Baird (Real Salt Lake; 2/0), Jonathan Lewis (New York City FC; 3/0), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders FC; 26/5), Christian Ramirez (LAFC; 2/1), Gyasi Zardes (Columbus Crew SC; 43/7)

I assume they were still evaluating his ankle when they put that out yesterday. He isnt playing for a while so no need to rush back. Might as well stay in camp with the team. Id bet we see him in dress clothes and with crutches on Tuesday.

I would have assumed he would have returned to his club doctors with that kind of injury

They would need to evaluate for travel anyway. They said he was seeing a foot specialist in the USA

I'd assume they'd want to get an immediate diagnosis. The between club and fed to decide. I'd think only a rush to get back to club if they think he could be back in less than 2 months before season ends.

    A foot specialist?

    That sounds bad.

    here
I thought I read that Puli was out. My bad. I'd like to see Ramirez. I'd like to see Morris get another go - I've described elsewhere why I don't think the Ecuador match was a good match for evaluating him.

But, if JM is going to sit, I'd rather see:

    -----------------------Ramirez
    ----Lewis-----------------------------------Arriola
And, if I wasn't tethered to GGG's system:
    -----------------------Lletget
    ------------Puli
    ----------------------------------------6
    Ream------Brooks----Long-----Yedlin

(I'm operating under the assumption that Wes isn't available)

I'd start Ramirez up top and put Morris on for him around the 60 min mark.

Our current MNT player pool is much weaker than I thought. March camp to me was Jan. Camp 2.0. Will the Gold Cup be more of the same?

After 2 GGG camps and 3 friendlies I have a hard time believing what our supposed position/player depth chart looks like. Personally, I am waiting to add the U23s and U20s to the Sr. squad. The U20 WC is coming soon and we will see who steps up on a very talented team. We all want our favorite's included on MNT rosters, and those are mine.

    My take after 3 friendlies

    GK: wide open
Steffen: hurt and possibly moving to a 2019 EPL bench role; Johnson: GGG camp favorite
Camp Opp: Gonzales, Miller, Bono, Horvath

    RB: still experimenting
Adams: played well as #1 should; Lima: Jan camp surprise learning new hybrid role
    Camp Opp: Cannon, Rosenberry

CB: taking shape with talent to select from
Brooks: my vote to wear 2019 Captain's armband; Long: playing like MLS defender of the year; Zimmerman: physical presence and very strong on set pieces
Camp Opp: Miazga, Trusty, Glad, McKenzie

    LB: weakest position by far
Lovitz: Is he GGGs starter? Ream: short-term experience as 2019 backup?
    Camp Opp: Garza

    DCM: my personal nightmare
Trapp: GGG favorite, IMO not ready for int'l play, solid backup; Bradley: GGG favorite, please retire from MNT
    Camp Opp: Canouse

    CMs: still experimenting
Pulisic: olease move to outside and play interchangable LW/RW; McKennie: hope ready for Gold Cup; Roldan: good back-up and can improve; Mihailovic: Jan camp surprise prospect, good upside; LLeget: great to see back
    Camp Opp: Delgado, Acosta

Wingers: lots of players with no answers
Ebobisse: started, got head shot early, can improve; Baird: started, seen enough, can improve; Morris: still learning, backup prospect; Arriola: fits on this team; Lewis: good upside prospect; Yedlin: need to see more
    Camp Opp: ???

    Strikers:
Zardes: works hard; Ramirez: backup poacher
    Camp Opp: ???

Only thing left for Chile: Horvath, Yedlin at RW, Miazga with Brooks. The rest I have seen and have a baseline opinion on.

Do you not know that there are players outside of MLS that can help this team? The team looks so weak due to Berhalters player selection. It really is a shame.

It’s because the U23 camp was around this time. He is just expanding the player pool because of the time crunch. The gold cup roster will probably have guys like Sargent and Weah. Chill

The post starts with "our current MNT pool is weaker than I thought" and then proceeds to only contemplate MLS players except for Miazga who is in camp. There is no reason for Weah and Sargent to be with the u23s playing in a completely different system. The u23 focus should be qualifying and those guys arent going to be available. There are plenty of euro based players not with u23s that are more useful than the ones in this camp.

edit: Long as captain? probably not in the top 5 CBs.

I thought he did well but still not convinced. He has had some pretty shocking games in MLS in the last year. He will be 27 yo in October and still hasnt played 100 games for NYRB.

I know keepers get better with age but I legit don't see how Sean Johnson is better than Ethan Horvath. I just don't see it. SJ has had his fair share of errors in a US shirt and as a pro.

It’s just part of the equation. In possession, out of possession and transition . All factors

Have you watched Horvath? He’s good in his distribution.
