If the UEFA site is accurate, I bet the players will feel a bit disappointed they didn’t win despite playing most of the game with 10 men as it looks like we kept on having a lot of good chances that were not converted and dominating the game.
This is what the FA came up with. It suggests a lot closer game than UEFA’s running commentary tbh: England U17s were held to a draw on Sunday afternoon, when they shared a dramatic 0-0 with Croatia in their second Euro elite round qualifier. The Young Lions had to play with ten men for two-thirds of the game too, following the first-half red card for Louie Moulden. The Manchester City goalkeeper was shown a straight red after bringing down Croatia’s Luka Branseter in the box at the expense of a penalty. James Trafford came on to take over in goal and face the resulting spot-kick, and his first action of the afternoon was a vital one, as he superbly saved Tomislav Duvnjak's effort. England had to show their resolve after that, as Croatia looked to pile on the pressure ahead of the break, when Steve Cooper was able to regroup his team. And it resulted in a more equal second half, which either side could’ve won. The result now means England know they will qualify for this summer’s U17 EURO Finals in Ireland if they can beat hosts Denmark in their final game in Silkeborg on Wednesday. England: 1 Louie Moulden (Manchester City), 2 Valentino Livramento (Chelsea), 3 Haydon Roberts (Brighton & Hove Albion), 4 Miguel Azeez (Arsenal), 5 Taylor Harwood-Bellis (Manchester City) (C), 6 Nathan Wood-Gordon (Middlesbrough), 8 Jensen Weir (Wigan Athletic), 9 Sam Greenwood (Arsenal), 10 Nonso Madueke (PSV), 11 Morgan Rogers (West Bromwich Albion), 14 Ben Knight (Manchester City) Substitutes: 13 James Trafford (Manchester City) for Knight 31, 7 Alex Mighten (Nottingham Forest) for Madueke 61, 16 Joseph Gelhardt (Wigan Athletic) for Greenwood 76, 17 Lewis Bate (Chelsea) for Weir 76 Substitutes not used: 12 Teden Mengi (Manchester United), 15 Harvey Elliott (Fulham), 18 Matthew Bondswell (RB Leipzig), 19 Myles Peart-Harris (Chelsea) Head coach: Steve Cooper
Don't think it's televised. Trafford for Moulden, Mighten for Madueke the changes from the Croatia game.
Either nothing happened for 10 minutes, or the live updates are very sparse today. Looks like it'll be 0-0 heading into HT. Bit close for comfort.
Had a feeling this was going to go Pete Tong! Can’t explain why but maybe just because this week has been our worst for many years.
To be fair, it seems like Denmark are worth their lead and dominating the game. Can’t see us turning this around.
I'm not going to bolt before this match is over or anything, but this is another case where they've taken 18* outfielders and started 8 of them in all three matches, and it doesn't make a lot of sense to do that when you have three games in a week and a talented squad. Peart-Harris, Bondswell and Mengi haven't played a second; it's poor squad management. *It's actually 17 because Musah has passport issues, which begs the question, why select him when there's uncertainty about whether you can use him? Get Paris Maghoma in instead or something. Penalty to England.
Maghoma is 01. But still, agree with you in general. I wonder if they had to make last minute changes and got caught out. If Okoflex, Simeu, Musah, Cirkin, Sarmiento + Carvalho all had registration issues.
I have sympathies to some extent with late hitches, but these guys have been in the system for two or three years now, the FA know the state of play, and there's enough depth of talent to go out and call someone else up. More than that though, rotate your 18 outfielders properly.
Gelhardt scores, he's won a penalty too, and only been on 18 minutes. Only played like 6 minutes in one of the other games...
Do we have any idea if the missing players will be eligible for the summer? You'd think it'd be black and white.
