I can’t watch a team built around this clown anymore. I can’t watch a #10 whose first idea is to play backwards to keep possession. This team is going nowhere as long as Pipa is our focal point. 4 anonymous games for every 3 awful games for every one game he makes a difference. Yes, he delivers a decent set piece from time to time. If MLS has a designated hitter role he might hold worth. He holds us back. Cut bait.
I agree. Lets just dump the bastard. In fact, since we dont have a better option, lets just play with ten men rather than have to put up with his tired old ass. Or even better: put a want ad on the Argentine Craigslist: wanted - highly skilled center mid/playmaker willing to work for coolie wages in a second rate league. Call Tim Bezbatchenko at 800 DUMSHIT. You people embarrass me sometimes.
Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. If you need to fall back asleep I have a suggestion instead of counting sheep. Put on a tape of last nights game and count the number of times Pipa recieved the ball and his first movement was backwards. Or maybe calculate his coolie wages per game and count them off as $1 bills. The way this fanbase allows sentimentality to have them accept obviously deteriorating players and dreadful performances embarrasses me. You would think nearly 25 years into this franchise we’d have grown out of this googly eyed teenager phase.
I notice that in all of your Hudson Valley condescention and scorn you neglect to address the basic issue, whuch I will therefore make simpler for those who require it: Who else you got?
My condensencion is still in South Jersey for another hour. Lord have mercy. Do you not think Porter can develop players? Was he just brought in to manage Pipa’s farewell tour. ******** Bill, I’d do that for 1/4 the salary. Throw players like Sosa out there. Change up the system a bit. To continue to defer all of this team’s creative impulse to Pipa is madness. But I guess we should just be happy we have a team and be continue to pretend that these players are their 2015 selfs. Watching Pipa continue to be terrible because he’s been a servant of the club is not an honor to the fans or him. Porter needs to show courage and ingenuity and figure this out.
Bill I agree with your line of question but the answer is anybody in the summer transfer window that has pace and can play 90 minutes at MLS starting caliber would be a improvement. If Sosa can’t get on the bench yet than Higuaín would be the perfect back up 10. Hell I wish we would have got Givinco instead of letting him go to China but really we need a younger playmaking #10 but still someone with experience. So probably a guy 24-27 years of age . I’m sure someone can compile a list of guys for you There has to be a long list of guys better than Pipa !
Let's see this list. MLS is a downgrade for most capable players that age and there is no guarantee the league would allow us to sign this player. If this player is as good as we hope, he's gone in two years. That's the reality of being in a selling league.
We're about to get a lot of allocation money for Zack. We need to find a better keeper than Bendik asap. But we can also go shopping for a new CAM. We got Pipa for a modest transfer fee when he was younger. Valeri cost 3 mil when he came to MLS. There is plenty of talent in South America and a lot of clubs in financial trouble.
And as soon as you show me where I said one single word about keeping Pipa on the field because of past performance, I'll blow Dave Greeley at the corner of Broad and High. Im just saying that you keep sending him out there until you have someone better. And guys like him only six to eight years younger all have jobs someplace else. Someone is probably going to be available but you cant just pick up the phone and dial 1-800-10SHIRT
If the Haslam's are really about spending big, Juan Mata is out of contract this summer. Spain and Man United star, #10. That would sell tickets and improve the attack, for a couple years at least.
Atlanta signed Almiron, Barco, and Pity Martinez in a two year span, all from the same league. Don't act like it's impossible to find talent, just gotta throw money at it.
You can put any number you want on the guy I th s still Pogbas team. And you know damned well there isn't enough money in the world to get Mata to play in MLS.
Why not? He's not David Villa, who played at Barca and is Spain's all-time leading goalscorer. Mata is no Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He's no Theirry Henry. He's no Kaka, the man who was the world record transfer fee before Cristiano Ronaldo, and last player to win the Ballon d'or other than Messi and Ronaldo (before Modric) in like the past million years. He's no Wayne Rooney. What planet are you living on where MLS can attract Villa, Ibra, Henry, Kaka, Rooney, and others, but not Mata?
Why is it impossible to get Mata to MLS? Bigger names than him have come here. I've no idea if he'd be interested or not, and we could probably find better value in South America, but there's no doubt some salary that would get him here.
It's too early to be drunk. Zlatan is 37. Villa is 37. Kaka is 36. Rooney is a very old and washed up 33. Mata is 30 Want to.play One of These Things is Not Like the Others?
Villa when he signed for NYCFC - 33 Kaka when he signed for Orlando - 32 Rooney when he signed for DC - 32 Henry when he signed for NYRB - 33 Mata when his contract expires in the summer - 31 Yeah, those ages are really far apart. I'm clearly super drunk!! Nice alternative facts, Sparky.
Kyle Crew did it better. If anyone thinks MLS will let a name like Mata come to Columbus, they haven't been paying attention for the last two decades. Maybe something has changed but I doubt it.
Is Orlando a giant market? DC? I know Cbus is smaller, but come on. If you think MLS will turn away a Spanish world cup winning playmaker from arguably the biggest club in the world, you're insane.
I never said MLS will turn him away, I just said I doubt he will play in Columbus. Maybe a new stadium will help.
You did imply very heavily that they wouldn't let it happen. I mean, it's just a couple posts up.... Now, whether or not he would want to come here, that's a different story, I agree with you. If people want a big flashy name to replace Pipa, on a free transfer no less, there it is. If people want to go the Atlanta route and sign potential, there is a whole continent and a half due south full of players like that. Bill acting like finding a replacement, in the entire world, for Pipa is really hard is laughable. There are players out there, don't be cheap like Precourt and you can get some of them.
