Probably a fair result, given the number of good chances Dallas created. But boy, we sure need a win.
Still not sure what to make of this team. Clearly better than 2018, but that’s such a low bar I feel it’s a fairly poor benchmark to use going forward. I’m trying to figure out what we do WELL? Honestly I can’t think of anything aside from both fullbacks being pleasant surprises. The defense clearly isn’t a strength but I’m far more concerned about the midfield because this a roster and a formation that are supposedly built around a strong midfield....and I’m just not seeing it at this point. Better than 2018? Sure. But that’s not exactly something we should be patting ourselves on the back over. Bottom line: I walk away from this game unimpressed and unsatisfied. Good teams win at home and tie on the road. Poor teams tie at home and lose on the road. We have 2 home ties and 2 road losses. By every metric that matters we still are not a good team. And that is disappointing given the optimism coming out of the offseason.
Only got to watch the last 15 minutes in Spanish. Bummer. I don’t worry too much until April when I consistently able to go and watch.
I completely agree with this. Several good saves from Howard today. Timmy is not a part of the problem.
Bodmer Line: 1.367 PPG Kroenke Line: 0.000 PPG Not a surprising score line. FCD is a tough team and it was a road game. The Rapids' points have come at home against the 7th and 10th place Western Conference teams, and the losses have come on the road against the 1st and 4th place Western Conference teams. Four of the next five matches are against 2018 non-playoff teams. We should have a better feel for where the Rapids stand after those matches. There were some positive moments today. Howard saved the bacon a few times, and played well overall. The Rapids had some chances in the box. There wasn't a parade of stupid fouls. The back line is a train wreck. Midfield possession was lacking. Poor touch in the offensive third doomed several promising opportunities, The team missed Rubio and Feilhaber. Howard was oh-so-lonely several times.
I thought we passed the ball to the Red/Blue team more than needed. Weren't we wringing white (or maybe I missed something). R
Not sure what to make of this team. Like many others, we look better, but the results still are crap. I could be wrong, but it looks like last year we got our first win of the year in the third game (against Philadelphia). This year, we are still on the outside looking in. Looking better is nice, but winning is nicer. This season is about to get away from us real fast if the ship isn’t turned around.
I had heard David Ferreira's son was with FCDallas, but I had never seen him play. That is really cool he got the start. Elder Ferreira was quite a player at this peak. David Ferreira is 5 months younger than Tim Howard.
Some quick thoughts on the game: - I only watched the first 60 minutes due to 20th wedding anniversary. Mrs G comes before a Rapids loss. - The team looked very much like 2018. Reverted back to passing around the defense. I was wondering if Howard wanted more touches or something. There were times we had the ball in the upper part of the field and worked all the way back to Howard. Wondering if "possession" was pushed so much we couldn't do anything else. - The past games have had a sense of quality. Not all the time, but certainly you could see it. This game did not show that and frankly leaves me a bit sad. - I said at the beginning that this would be the game we see if the team truly has something. Based on the reverted play, I am questioning. I did not feel we had a shot at winning this game while watching it, which tells me we took a step back from previous games. - Haven't been impressed with Acosta this year. Not sure what is going on, but haven't seen him show he belongs on the USMNT in any way. - We are heading to play some "easier" competition, so we better see some improvement quick or this season spirals fast. Perhaps playing the top teams just took us out of our game or something. Overall, I am not as optimistic as past games this year. In those games, I felt we did some good and showed promise. Just wasn't quite there. This game, what I saw wasn't competitive. rod.
Do the Rapids just get too predictable, esp. given their talent level? Last season they looked pretty good when opening in the 3-5-2, then it ground to a halt as teams apparently figured out how to combat it. Then they changed to the 4-4-2 diamond and had some success, then teams apparently adjusted again. Now this year.
Like others, this and next 4 are the no more excuses games for AH and PS. Didn’t watch this game but MLS highlights had just 2 favorable to Rapids, that is not acceptable against a very young, beatable team even if on road.
In my humble opinion, Acosta needs to start playing like a star as opposed to a journeyman. Particularly yesterday when we had a couple players out, we needed Acosta make an impact. Nope.
Interesting look at the VAR process for our VAR awarded goal last week http://proreferees.com/2019/03/29/t...s-week-4/?utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral
During the World Cup, they used Hawk-eye or similar technology to determine whether the whole ball went over the line. Professional tennis uses it at all tournaments. Any idea why MLS doesn't use it? I assume money, but it doesn't seem like it would cost much to install. I also struggle with the definition of "definitive". This looked like a clear goal to me (even if it had been against the Rapids), but the announcers kept talking like if you didn't get a complete side view, it might not be "definitive" because the official would actually have to use his brain to make the determination. Frustrating, but they did get it correct.
Where to place it? To get a straight shot down the vertical plane defined by the back of the end line and not be in the way for play would put it clear out by the off pitch boarding. In the WC were those CGI made with the chip in the ball defining its location?
