I'm looking to be at the game on 4/13 and make a flight at 6:15 out of IAH. I am not from Houston. I will be arriving late the night before, but I need to fly out that night. Game Start: is listed at 2:00 (is the listed time the actual start time or is it 15 mins later b/c of TV, etc?) Assuming it's actually 2:00, that has it ending no later than 4:00.

That leaves me 2 hours to get my bag and to the gate before it closes. I have pre-check. Would you see it more than 45 mins to get from my seat to IAH via Uber/Lyft?

I'd prefer to not have to wait around until 9pm for the next flight for a variety of reasons.

    personal opinion:

i would never put my trust in Houston traffic or Houston airport lines being reliable and predictable. some days it can take you 30 minutes to get to a location and other days it can take 1.5 hrs. by the way, from BBVA you're much closer to Hobby Airport.

The April 13 game is on Univision. They usually don't do much pre-game so the game itself should start not too long after 2 pm. Which means the game should end pretty close to 4:00 pm, maybe a few minutes after. Our last game was also 2:00 pm although only on local TV, I was out of the stadium and walking to my car by 4:10.

You say you have to get your bag so where are you actually leaving from to get to IAH? It will take a little time to get away from BBVA. Crowds are not huge for Dynamo games but there is still congestion in the area. And there is always construction going on around downtown.

And you never know about IAH. Saturday afternoon shouldn't be too bad.

You could probably do this but it is a hard thing to guarantee.

The bag issue is up in the air. Our plan is to leave them at the hotel I stay in Friday night. (They typically hold them if you ask especially with the number of stays I have with their reward program.) The hotels I saw were right on the way to IAH. I'd say 15 min MAX to swing in and get the bags. The stadium doesn't happen to have a bag check? (Long shot, but you never know.)

Based on the other response, I could do the same with Hobby. Flight is 15 mins earlier though with no others that night.

    Thanks for the input.

    PS: Go Earthquakes!
(We're SJ people living on the East Coast who happen to be traveling back that direction during this game. Flights oddly are the same price to stop in Houston for the day and then continue.)

I didn't think of Hobby. The options there are limited. Looks like only a SW flight at 6pm. So what I save on travel might be lost in an earlier flight.

    Thanks!

Under normal circumstances, you are probably okay. However, to Rey's point the traffic can be extremely unpredictable (especially with nearly every major junction in Houston under construction right now).

make sure the Houston Astros aren't playing at home during that weekend because you will have to contend with that traffic too. Stadium is within 500 yards of out stadium

The Astros are on the road that weekend. There is nothing scheduled for Minute Maid Park that day.

Thank you, everyone. I found a flight at 6:25 from Hobby that we're going to chance. I'm sure I'll be watching traffic the entire time half on my phone.

You’ll be fine for Hobby at that time - less busy than IAH. I-45 road construction and traffic (seems shut down about every other weekend) is your biggest challenge.

I’d say that fighting a sold-out 22,000 crowd to the exits would be a challenge but that would require me to create alternate universe of Dynamo attendance under the current regime.

headed south towards hobby, you might find that part of I-45 is closed at the 610 Loop junction. as things get closer, keep an eye out for scheduled closes at that area.
