Anyway , going back to formations maybe we can lineup with something similar to the formation we had against France in one of these matches:

    ----------------Vargas--------------------
    Palacios----Mina--Sanchez------Borja

    --------------Barrios----Lerma----------

    -----------Uribe----------James------------

    ------------------------------------Muriel----
    ----------------Falcao---------------------

    True.

The good thing is Japan is also playing a team that has about half the players from their Asian Cup roster so they can probably be out of sync as well.
It may be a very sloppy game on both sides of the field in Yokohama.

The goddamn double 5?! Why man? We're not playing Germany here and even if we were I still wouldn't use it, has never worked for us. I like your lineup, but I would take Lerma or Barrios out for Villa on the right.

    Why?
Because I think it mostly correlates with the tactics of Queiroz over the years.
Also , it would give more defensive help and cover to our back line and Keeper who need all the help they can get with the faster paced Asian teams.

As for Villa, I would love to see him start and already mentioned a Formation with him I would like to see.

Experimenting with the main roster? You think that’s going to happen and even in qualifiers we would use our 3rd/4th striker

Do you think in any friendly the coach would switch out the goalie every half.

It will be the main line up with 6 subs used

Again if it was a Colombian coach would you guys require a win!!! Or is a tie and minutes for Morelos enough?

I like this lineup - just from a depth perspective
I guess you are thinking that we sub in GC for Uribe/Lerma/Barrios and then we sub in Villa/Duvan/Diaz/Chara for Falcao/Muriel/James

Hopefully we see cuadrado back in time for copa America otherwise with our current string of injuries Im foreseeing triple and doble cincos for awhile.

Our defensive flanks have a lot of speed and pace but their position is always iffy, specially if Palacios starts. I think leaving Barrios or Lerma covering the MF space is plenty with Sanchez playing the stopper role as he has the speed to compensate and Mina as your sweeper.

Japan is such a tricky team that I can't place my finger on. They beat us in Russia but tough to judge vs a 10 man Colombia--also consider we actually went into that 2nd half with score even. Then they stunk it up vs a very weak Poland and while almost knocking off Belgium they literally collapsed in 2nd half play. In the Asian cup, the only team they seem to have clearly dominated is CQ Iran :cautious:..... hopefully Carlos has something up his sleeve.

Where do you usually go for foreign TV feeds? Reddit?

It could be plenty for you or for me.
But for Queiroz and the way he wants the team to play I am not sure.
If Villa is out there and Uribe moves back next to Barrios as Cruzifero suggests I will be all for it.

Exactly, friendlies are the time to try new things and to work on specific areas, winning meaningless games at the cost of progress is backwards thinking. On top of that its his first time with these players, its not like a club where you get to work with the players every day of the week, international soccer is a short window with the players, its going to be a while to get his ideas across.

Hopefully we don't see a double 5 but it wouldn't surprise me, typically its given us problems in midfield without enough players who are creative with the ball at their feet and puts too much pressure on James to be the only creative player out there. With Quintero injured it will hurt us in that sense, but hopefully CQ has other ideas to help free up James.

Colombia has many good defensive midfielders, I'd assume it will be tempting to put them on the field together, specially now that Quintero and is injured. Who knows, maybe CQ can make the double 5 work somehow, tactics are more than just formations after all.

I'm not a fan of the 2X5, but since this is a new beginning I'm not going to be too judgmental. All I want to see is the good old toque toque!

Futbolred is reporting this probable lineup:

    ----------------Vargas--------------------

    Palacios----Mina--Sanchez------Borja

    --------------Barrios----Cuellar----------

    --------------------James------------

    ------Villa------------------------------Diaz----
    --------------------Falcao---------------------

I know, most of the time the Colombian media is wrong about their predictions on this matter but it is still fun to see what they think will be trotted out there.
This could be an interesting formation with good counter- attacking ability.

With the players we have and injuries we probably should have tried to do 3 in the back. Especially with Borja playing it at his club

I have said this many times but with only 5 friendlies before the Copa America, Queiroz is probably going to stick with his bread and butter tactics and formations wise so that the players can pick up on it ASAP.
Playing 3 in the back is probably not part of his plans.

    --------------Barrios----Uribe----------

    --------------------James------------

    ------Zapata-----------------------------Diaz----
    --------------------Falcao---------------------

That would be an interesting lineup for sure.
Diaz was quoted as saying that he could be a creative replacement for JuanFer so maybe this hypothetical team would end up more with just Duvan and Falcao up top with Diaz playing like a "Cuadrado " type role next to James

Very offensive and would be fun to see if true.

This is exactly what you shouldn't do in friendlies. Its better to lose with a lack of personel then play a formation that you are not going to use going forward. This is a great opportunity for us to evaluate and give these fullbacks more time with the team to see if they can perform when needed. If CQ wanted to play a back 3 going forward then that of course is different, but I doubt it based on his previous tactics.

    New coach...

You guys don’t require him to win and now too cowardly to try a new formation that works with our current roster?

Man some of you older posters need therapy to get past the pain that Bolillo and maturana cost you

To me he has to win and play well these next two games. We are paying him
A fortune to do well and win. That is why we threw out pekerman like a hot bag of garbage. His results need to be better then what came before

Winning friendlies at the cost of winning in the long is a completely stupid idea. We beat France in a friendly before the world cup, did that stop them from winning it and make us World Champions? ******** no, because its meaningless and we should be focusing on bigger goals.

    Stop. Just Stop. LOL

March 2007 Friendly against Parguay (we won 2-0)

2007 Copa - First game.....also against Paraguay (i'll let you watch to see the outcome)

France probably learned more about what they needed to fix/focus on from losing to us last year in that friendly. Any mistakes / areas of weakness on our end that we saw during the France game were likely "swept under the carpet" rather than addressed in future games (perfect example - letting opposing team dictate the game from opening whistle; nervous style of play from start of game; not waking up until other team scores first).

I admire your dedication. You are willing to fast for the team and pull an all nighter to watch at 330.

I am on east coast so I have two alarms set for 6:05 and 6:15
