I completely agree. I had thought that Araujo's best position might eventually be as a #8 due to his athleticism, passing and technical ability, so I think he could do well in this hybrid RB/CM role. As a conventional RB, I don't think he fits the role all too well. He's too aggressive offensively to play a regular RB, and being confined to the sideline doesn't suit his game well because it takes away his biggest strength, which is his passing ability.
Seems like a surplus of defenders and a lack of midfielders. If this camp was really to start drilling Sargent, Weah, ARobinson, CCV and maybe a few others, in the new USMNT system, then the other players are probably mostly filler. The roster seems mostly guys Ramos was familiar with in the 2017 U20 cycle. I don't think anyone was tracking many players in this age range lately. Scott and EPB had to pull out I guess. That would be two possible midfielders. Wonder if they will add some. It is funny that Sands is the starter at NYCFC and Parks and Torres are in Spain. But maybe that is the point.
Sure, when they have the full group, or close to it. But for a rando camp with a cobbled together roster? I don't think one lone collegiate player is that big a deal
As long as he continues getting minutes at the club level, I can't really complain. Work his way into a potential Gold Cup call up
Yup. Although NYCFC doesn't have a game this weekend...………………….. I do think the exclusion of Sands from the U20s/U23s is a weird one. Its possible he wasn't released, but why not? I can understand players that are getting playing time on the squads below not getting released. They all have games this upcoming weekend. FCD versus Colorado Philly versus Columbus NYRB versus Orlando LAFC versus RSL NE versus Cincinnati We can make a list of all the youngsters that weren't released from FCD, Philly, NYRB, RSL, etc. That all makes sense to me. By the way, if you're on one of these teams.……….and they did release you? That's not a good sign for your playing time this season. Derrick Jones of Philly? Cam Lindley of Orlando? Josh Perez of LAFC? We're not talking about 17 year old prospects here. These are players in their 20s. Their teams are telling them that they're not needed for gameday. What I'm trying to say is YES, its OK for folks to wonder why Sands wasn't called up to either the U20s or U23s. That's a head scratcher. Parks and Torres were released. Maybe something going on we don't know about. A little knock after their last game for instance.
Miles Robinson has been on fire for Atlanta United. Honestly probably been the best player over the first several games. I expect him to be a rock for the U-23's.
He's actually already on the senior team radar. https://sbisoccer.com/2019/03/miles...-the-attention-of-usmnt-coach-gregg-berhalter So yeah, I think he's the starter here, and has a big future as a footballer (KOW).
I heard US Soccer will stream the U23 matches but not the U20 matches. Take that with a grain of salt bc I also heard the U23 roster was going to be released last Friday. https://t.co/tHM9PIktJo— scuffed (@scuffedpod) March 20, 2019
Who is going to drill them? Is anyone from Berhalter's staff in Spain? They just named Kreis. Does he even understand the system?
I have no idea if Kreis understands anything. He was not the first choice and reeks of desperation. But there is a full staff there picked by Stewart and you would think GB. Kreis was allowed to bring a buddy, but didn't select any of the staff.
It has been asked We don't know............................. Its just simply possible that the staff struggled to fill that spot as a ton of MLS defenders weren't released for the U23s (the Reggie Cannon, Auston Trusty types). They just needed somebody and Araujo fit.
Well, this really is the type of coach you're going to get for this team. This isn't really a team. A couple of sporadic camps followed by a tournament. An MLS Cup winning coach looking restore his reputation after difficult stops in NYCFC and Orlando.
I think with the U20s he is 3rd or lower on the depth chart at RB. But Ramos, Stewart, and GB are high on him, so they sent him to the U23s to play rather than sit or not do anything. But with arguably our best CM playing RB fro the senior team, going to be hard for any RB to ever get a look. Maybe at winger. Of course, if Pulisic and Weah are on the wing, then Dest, Lindsey, Araujo, Yedlin, Lima, Cannon, and all the rest are out of luck until Trapp retires.
I agree with all that. Just in the pool of these types of coaches, he was not the first choice and was only hired at the last minute.
Also, remember that Kreis didn't quit his job at Inter Miami. They're supposed to start playing in MLS next year, so it's not even clear to me that he would remain coach after qualifying. (If I missed a clearer statement about this, please let me know. I see that Kreis has said he is bringing in a fill-in assistant but wants to hire a full-time one.) I also note that his hiring announcement and U.S. Soccer interview didn't formally characterize him as a MNT assistant, which would seem logical for this job, though from a practical perspective he's obviously part of the effort.
Apparently, this youtube channel will stream the U-23 matches, but not the U-20 matches: https://www.youtube.com/user/POPULARTVMURCIA/videos?view=2&sort=dd&live_view=502&shelf_id=2
When I heard Kreis was announced I was actually pretty impressed. Piotr Nowak was the last coach I think that actually managed a pro team.
seems like in today's reports about Jonathan Klinsmann leaving Hertha Berlin in Summer. It's also being said that he has firm commitment to be #1 for USA U23/Olympics.
